  1. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-081208-ron-santo-hall-of-fame-cubs,0,4637106.story I think Sully expected Santo to make it. His article seems to have kind of a slant to it of "in the past he came close and fell short, but this year he didnt"
  2. Bruce Levine is getting major respect points from me. "Joe, do you want to see changes to the voting process" "Well we just changed it" "Well do you want to see more changes" "(some stupid BS answer)"
  3. Bruce Levine just asked Joe Morgan a question about why the veterans haven't elected anyone yet, but he worded it as kind of an insult to Morgan and the other vets.
  4. Stupid Joe Morgan is sitting there with a stupid smug look on his stupid face.
  5. Santo is never getting in folks. The dream is dead.
  6. Screw this, I'm starting my own Baseball Hall of Fame, and Santo is going to be the only one allowed in :(
  7. Results of the 2008 Post-1942 Players Ballot (48 votes needed for election): Santo (39 votes, 60.9 percent), Jim Kaat (38, 59.4 percent), Tony Oliva (33, 51.6 percent), Gil Hodges (28, 43.8 percent), Joe Torre (19, 29.7 percent), Maury Wills (15, 23.4 percent), Luis Tiant (13, 20.3 percent), Vada Pinson (12, 18.8 percent), Al Oliver (nine, 14.1 percent), Dick Allen (seven, 10.9 percent). Santo missed it by 9 votes WTF
  8. That might just be for the Pre-1942 people election. Still holding out hope.
  9. SOB. Why did Hendry disclose that? I would think he would only disclose it if it was going to be a major issue, which means our top prospect and best trade chip is tarnished.
  10. The link for the PC is up on the HOF website now. (check my previous post above) They wouldn't hold a glamorous press conference to tell us no one was elected right?
  11. Wow, I thought they were pleased with what they gave them last year. Are they trying to cut payroll because of the economy or because they realize that last year's team was probably the best possible outcome?
  12. Last time it was a press release, this time it looks like a news conference: http://web.baseballhalloffame.org/index.jsp
  13. This is true. But as we've seen the last 2 Octobers, having a offense that doesn't perform in October hurts too. In 3 out of the last 6 playoff games we lost we gave up 3, 5 and 3 runs. The Cubs scored more runs than any other team in the NL last year. Yup. My point was even with a stud pitching staff, you need to score runs in October.
  14. Central. And the Writer's Ballot is released in Jan I think
  15. This is true. But as we've seen the last 2 Octobers, having a offense that doesn't perform in October hurts too. In 3 out of the last 6 playoff games we lost we gave up 3, 5 and 3 runs.
  16. Sounds like stuff we said in 2004, especially the "no more 'we should lose this game' thoughts"
  17. I just remembered that the Vikings and Falcons play, so that means we are only 1 game behind one of those teams instead of 2 as originally thought. Hopefully that team is Minnesota.
  18. I figured this would be appropriate to post. We've done this in the last few years and its worked out well since there are so many rumors and stuff that goes down. This will be for NON-Cubs rumors only. Anyways, this week is easily the most enjoyable week of the offseason, so I am greatly looking forward to following along.
  19. FYI, on WSI.com they are saying there is a report that the Sox and Brewers are in heavy talks for a Jenks trade.
  20. They still might be trying to trade Jenks, too. They've made some moves that could put them in a good spot a few years down the road, but I've got to believe that these trades are also part of a plan for this off-season. I wonder who Kenny Williams has in mind. Agreed. Kenny Williams would never accept not competing for even one season. Something is brewing.
  21. I'm inbetween on this issue. If there was a playoff system, I'd agree all undefeated teams should be in the playoffs regardless. It's tough to win all your games no matter who you are playing. But at the same time, why should a team that plays in a weak conference and plays weak non-conference games be rewarded over a team that played in a much tougher conference and scheduled freaking USC in their non-conference slate.
