  1. From Winter 07-08: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/01/looking-like-a.html From Winter 08-09: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/12/cubs-close-to-a.html Let's not pen Peavy into our rotation just yet.
  2. Who is going to platoon with Fontenot? (Career vs. LHP = .247 .313 .370) I guess Fukudome can play RF when Bradley goes down. I thought Hendry was obsessed with versatility, its surprising that he's willing to give up DeRosa, but I'm all for selling high. Soriano (guess he's still hitting leadoff) Theriot Lee Bradley Ramirez Soto Fontenot Fukudome/Johnson Peavy Harden Zambrano Dempster Lilly
  3. Is anyone else concerned that Bradley couldn't handle deal with the media for a major market team? This is the same media that goes overboard against Ramirez for supposedly not hustling enough. I'd be more concerned with how he handles Wrigley fans, who'll start booing him after his first 0-for-8 stretch. Why would they do that? Because they've (i should say we've) boo'd every player with high expectations that's gone through any sort of bad stretch since 2004. And some with low expectations.
  4. Maybe, but Bruce did say that there was nothing to the Cubs rumored interest in him.
  5. Putting aside all the emotional "he is one of the few guys that gets it" crap, you are absolutely right. How often do you get to sell this high on a 34 year old MI?
  6. When I saw this thread got up to 57 games, i figured something big had happened. When I read the latest news, I believed I was correct and looked forward to the 2+ pages I had yet to read. And then I slowly realized it was 2 pages of Meph talking about who he's blocked. Can we have one thread where people aren't obsessed with Meph one way or another?
  7. Yeah, I think he did, but I was too lazy to bump it. :-$ By all means, post Cubs rumors in here too. I was just following the format of previous years rumor threads.
  8. Actually it was Lou Piniella, and its wasn't "Suck it Lou" it was like "I wish Lou was here to see this" or something like that.
  9. It's not like you're boycotting water or something. How many times does one visit the Hall of Fame in one's lifetime, twice at best?
  10. They did in the AP. 8 Big teams in total drawing votes(no PSU, Iowa, or IU. How good is Michigan? They've really confused me...they lose at Duke and lose some bad games, but then beat UCLA and Duke? Their 2 losses were to Duke (neutral ground), and Maryland (in Maryland...tough place to win typically). Their good wins are over Duke and UCLA. Their 'meh' wins (because of the quality of opponent) are over Northeastern, Michigan Tech (D-II) and Norfolk State. Their bad win was an OT victory at home over Savannah State. 6-2 overall. There is no reason they shouldn't enter Big 10 play at 10-2 with 4 mediocre to bad opponents coming up. Not a bad loss in there, just that bad Savannah State win. I think they are pretty good...probably a borderline tourney team as they are playing a much more fluid style of basketball this season in Beilien's second year.
  11. Northwestern didn't get a single vote for the Top 25? I'm not saying they should be ranked but I thought that they should have at least a vote or two. Michigan is like 28th or so in the rankings.
  12. I sit in 207 quite a bit (2-3 times a year). Terrific seats...they are in the United Club, which is like this super fancy luxury area. If you get too cold (thursday's low is 17), you can go inside a heated area and sit in a comfy chair and watch the game out the window, there are large bars there and enough bathrooms that the only time theres a huge line is during halftime. Awesome, I'm really looking forward to it. I very rarely get to go to Bears games. I'm in row 6, do you think that will be covered? And I picked up that pair of tickets for $200 on craigslist. $200 for the PAIR, not per ticket. They are $245 each face (and right next to the $300 face section). I suggest if anyone in the Chicago area is like me and rarely gets to go to Bears games and doesn't mind a little cold, hit up craigslist. There are hundreds and hundreds of tickets out there below face. I'm not sure, I don't think its completely covered, maybe partially covered. I usually sit in Row 11 and its completely covered, and the overhang doesnt extend for more than like 3-4 more rows I think.
  13. Figured its a short week, might as well get this up. Big game for both teams. I think I read the game will be shown locally on My50 WPWR, whatever the hell that is.
  14. If that's true and not just posturing, I'd put the Cubs chances of getting Peavy down to like 40% You still would have more than two whole months of offseason before pitchers and catchers report. Why stop so soon? I think Towers is just posturing and letting the Cubs know, since they have been designated Peavy's only suitor, that there is another option other than "Peavy to the Cubs". That option is "Peavy stays with Padres" He probably wants to get this trade done so they can manage the rest of their offseason. He's trying to make Peavy more of a priority to the Cubs than a LH OF, which is what everyone is reporting is priority number 1.
  15. Hahaha, I doubt that. Maybe he'll go in as a cheerleader

  17. LOL That's actually hilarious.
  18. Someone misquoted him... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3754869&name=winter_meetings_2008 Ouch. Someone needs to be fired over this Crap, I went from happiness to sadness, as I'd rather have Bradley or Dunn than Ibanez or Abreu.

  20. Well to be fair, Ty Cobb was a much much better ballplayer in his era than Ron Santo. Santo gets screwed because he is deemed as a borderline HOF player with a bad attitude during his playing days, although I personally think Ron is a clear HOF, not a borderline one.
  21. Morgan said that everyone feels like someone should be in the HOF, but they can't agree on who. I think they said something like each veteran voted for an average of 3.3 people, but no one came out with the requisite 75%. I think what they should do is instead of voting separately, they should all meet, and discuss the merits 1 by 1 of each player, and then vote for someone. I mean its a committee, and theres only 10 players on the ballot to discuss, it shouldn't be that hard. I believe that's what they used to do, and it led to some horrible choices. Hmmm well maybe the problem there was groupthink then. That was my one reservation to the idea.
  22. Huh? I don't think there is a limit.
  23. Because he was hated as a player by both other players and the media.
