  1. Looks like the answer is no so far: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Joe-Amorosino/132253236838991 So for all the people who think all this stuff is going on behind the scenes and they are just finalizing things, according to that, this is not the case and nothing has been going on behind the scenes.
  2. Not really news but some relevant tweets from Kevin Goldstein of BP
  3. Just breaking. I know Butters posted in NFL thread but its worth its own thread.
  4. I don't think Fielder even wants to remain in Milwaukee based on his comments this year. The only way I'd see it happening is if the Brewers offere him significantly more than the next highest bidder an that's just not likely to happen. I do think that this playoff run pushes Pujols closer to resigning with STL though.
  5. Couldn't watch the game as I was driving to Indy for a wedding but from listening on the radio it sounded like it was one of those games where the Hawks put a ton of shots on net but they just wouldn't go through. If so it's just one of those games, whatever. But if they were as sloppy as some said on here it's a possible sign that the team needs to gel a bit.
  6. Life as a Cubs fan is a continual slap in the face.
  7. Ahh were at the "let goose Gossage have his day in the sun" part of the proceedings
  8. The 2 guys are a combined 90-38 in their picks this year.
  9. That sentence was immediately preceeded by them saying he was still the man or something like that. It was a two-faced answer. "He's going to be our GM, unless he decides he's not." Dodged. But nobody heard that. Because they said so much other quote worthy stuff. Nobody heard that because they wanted to hear other stuff. Because it leads to the answer they want and because it's more exciting that way. If we were Boston fans hoping for him to stay, we wouldn't be focusing on the second part of the quote. There'd be lots of talk about how they were asked directly if Epstein was still the man and ownership saying "He is." Just like when they were asked about non-lateral moves. They said their policy was to allow such contact requests, but there have been times where they haven't, and declined to elaborate on specifics. But I've seen it said a few times now that they said they would grant an interview if it was for a non-lateral move. Nah...Boston fans on SoSH were focused on the same "quote worthy" stuff we were. Many believed that Theo was on his way out after that interview. I don't understand how "Theo is our GM until he decides he's not" means that he's staying. Also, of course they are going to say things like "Theo is our guy". If the Cubs can't come to an agreement with Theo or Theo decides to stay in Boston, its not going to be pretty if they don't express confidence in their current GM.
  10. I checked out all the picks on ESPN, Yahoo, CBS Sports and SI.com and out of the 20 people that made picks, 18 picked the Lions and 2 picked the Bears. Thank you for your confidence in the team Seth Wickersham of ESPN.com and Jason Cole of CBSsports.com.
  11. Nah I don't think so. There was obviously a reason why they came on the radio. I think they had an agenda behind a lot of what they were saying.
  12. From all indications, Ricketts is prepared to offer Theo the moon to come here. Not only that, Henry said he would not grant permission to the Cubs if it were a lateral move. right, but I guess I missed the part where Boston actually gave Ricketts permission to talk to him. If they were told no, we would have found out by now. I don't know if that's quite true, but I think that there could be a lot more going on. They could be discussing both Epstein and Cherington. Like I said, unless they move Epstein to a higher ofice and give Cherington their GM job, there's no reason that they would extend Theo as GM and not let Cherington pursue the GM job with us. This is a huge opportunity, esepcially for a first time GM, and if Epstein doesn't get it and keeps the GM job, Cherington must have some interest. Actually, you make me rethink that quote Henry how they grant interviews for non-lateral positions....is it possible he could be referring to Cherington and not Theo?
  13. And this is why the Twitter age sucks. I'm sure ESPN will pick up this story soon. Even if the tweet turns out correct, its by blind luck that it does.
  14. lol I was listening to EEI this morning and one of the callers said Theo would do nothing with the Cubs because he doesn't have Carmine.
  15. So we're mocking the guy that says he's not coming here but not the guy who says he's coming here? Hmm
  16. lol this is hilarious
  17. I had to check to make sure this wasnt an onion article.
  18. dont ever use that name again seriously though, it's pretty similar, eerily, if you will. Similar? A GM from a small market wins 2 World Series and is hired by a big market ball club to build a team with middle market resources. A GM from a big market team that plays in a fanatical baseball market breaks a very publicized 86 year championship drought and wins 2 total titles is hired by a big market team that is now acting like a big market team and desperate to get rid of their own championship drought.
  19. I think how Rogers thinks that Darwin Barney is a top prospect.
  20. If its so easy to be successful as the GM of a rich free spending team, Jim Hendry must be a buffoon.
  21. They are going to announce their new Jewish GM in the middle of the most important Jewish holiday?
  22. I haven't seen much discussion about the quote "If another team wants to interview for a position that's not lateral, we will grant those." (paraphrase) Seems it could be a hint that the Cubs are offering more than just the GM role.
  23. The point we're at is asking permission to talk. Everything about him being interested is from "sources." To me this is similar to Boston's flirtations with Beane almost a decade ago. It's just giving fans the image for the archetype they're looking for...IMPotheadO...or a "hey we tried for the top guy" kind of thing...Epstein's still fairly young as a GM as it is, so getting out of Boston later is very doable for him. If I were him I'd be really into the idea of tweaking the Red Sox roster right now and getting it right. So Theo is just sitting back watching this thing unfold knowing that he has no interest in interviewing for the Cubs GM position? John Henry has been debating whether to grant the Cubs an interview for the last 2 days and he never bothered to ask Theo about his interest? C'mon that's just not logical. There is obviously interest from Theo in the position. To what extent we don't know yet. And I'm not sure what you are talking about with Beane. He actually accepted the Red Sox offer and flew back to California to tell his employers and clean out his office when he had a change of heart.
  24. really? every team does it.
