  1. YES! It's so damn nice to feel comfortable you can get scoring from your first 3 lines again, and makes it easier to allow your 4th line to be a pure checking line.
  2. Option A: -Let your GM that doesn't want to be here anymore take a promotion on a club in the other league -Get compensation for it in the form of a decent prospect -Save $3.5 million this year -Hire your assistant GM who has mentored under Theo and groomed for the job to take the job. Option B: -Force your GM that doesnt want to be there anymore to not take a significant promotion and force him to stay for the last year of his contract -Pay him $3.5 million this year to be a lame duck GM and disgruntled -Get no compensation when he leaves next year -Watch your assistant GM that was supposed to take over for Theo if/when he ever leaves bolt to a division rival (Baltimore) Yeah it sounds like Boston has a lot of leverage to demand Brett Jackson instead of Josh Vitters and has a lot of incentive to force Theo to stay in Boston. Angers me that this is even up for debate
  3. What does that even mean? Allow me to translate from my native language (trolling attention-seeker) to English. What he said roughly translates to "I'm bored, someone please argue with me so I can feel like I'm getting some attention in this thread." I'm assuming he means he thinks there's a 30% chance it falls through. If he's saying he thinks there's only a 30% chance it happens he needs to be slapped. Better start winding up because that's exactly what he's saying (30% Theo comes here)
  4. Eh, I think some perspective is being lost here. Yeah, it's frustrating, but we're talking about a holdup of a few days at the most. It's not like the postseason is done yet, so nobody's really missing out on too much time. I'm sure they want to make the announcement before the World Series starts though so Theo can start putting together his offseason plans. Once the World Series starts, Theo has to continue to remain in limbo for another week or so.
  5. This Phil Rogers quote might have already been posted already but I have a question Can someone make a case to me why the Red Sox are in a terrific position here? Becuase they really arent, and it makes no sense to me why someone would think that.
  6. I doubt it. We had Brandon Lloyd 3 years ago and they could have resigned him if they wanted to. I know he has all the sudden gotten good but I doubt theyd have interest in him.
  7. Clearly Boston hasn't done their homework on the Cubs system. We don't have any Jewish prospects? THE GARZA TRADE HAUNTS US AGAIN I lol'd
  8. I'm sad that no one remembers Yanr anymore. Who can forget the impassioned email he sent to Tim begging for his reinstatement, telling him about how close he was to making his 1,000th post, which he referred to as one of the best moments of his life. How about his strange disability which caused him to misspell every 5th word (not making fun of disabilities if that's what he had, but am laughing at how difficult his posts were to understand)? How about his strange hatred for samoans or whatever that got him banned? BTW, if you don't know who YanrSlatr is you probably joined later than 2004. Yanr was Bum before da Bum was Bum.
  9. They don't have Theo anymore. I'd be surprised if anyone left in that front office knew what OBP was much less WAR. They still have Cherington and Bill James don't forget (unless Theo is able to bring James with him). I know it was more of a joke. They have a lot of fantastic new age baseball minds Boston, while we have 2 (Theo and that Ari dude)
  10. They don't have Theo anymore. I'd be surprised if anyone left in that front office knew what OBP was much less WAR. WAR? What is it good for? Evaluating baseball players. Absolutely nothing, say it again, HuH Whatever Joe Morgan. Stop the hating and embrace the new era of baseball.
  11. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Down to 30% now, eh CC?
  12. I don't care how much you need pitching, you gotta sign Pujols, arguably the best player in baseball over Wilson, arguably a very good number 2 starter coming off a career year. Also Wilson will be 31 next year so its not like he's someone you can pencil in for the next 8 years barring injury. Neither is Pujols, but again, he's the best player in baseball.
  13. They are also shooting some bball outside of the school.
  14. What the what? I feel whatever the media reported back then was taken as complete fact. Didn't the Spanish-American war start due to a bunch of lies posted in newspapers?
  15. that definitely doesn't make any sense. They are just jealous that their baseball team has as many leaks as the titanic, while the Cubs are stealthy. Or they could have very good reason to state their claim. I doubt a team is just going to throw this out there without some kind of proof. You'd be surprised what the Boston media would throw out there just to see if it stuck. This isn't the 1920's and you can no longer take everything the media says at face value. In fact, the general rule should be to not trust anything you hear in the media until multiple sources confirm it. And besides, what he said didn't even make sense. What does ricketts firing Hendry in July and asking him to work through mid-august have anything to do with tampering? Do you think he was having Jimbo call Theo about a trade and then slipping in a 'hey, btw...if my position was ever open, do you think you'd ever be willing to work for the Cubs? No no totally just wondering" But there has to be something to it. Right? Why would it even be mentioned? Dunno a weak attempt from someone in the Boston org to scare the Cubs into giving them more...who the heck knows. Either that or he is literally just throwing that out there because it sounds good. I honestly don't understand what the motives are for a lot of what the media does. I am very jaded after the 2010 NBA FA drama.
  16. Not following that. that definitely doesn't make any sense. They are just jealous that their baseball team has as many leaks as the titanic, while the Cubs are stealthy. 17. I remember no one really considered him to be anything but an average poster instead he started getting all 'bro' on us by acting like some badass frat boy and also bragging about scalping Cubs tickets for profit. I feel like that's when people started to turn on him. As far as why he got banned, I can't quite put my finger on why either. Same with da Bum. I know 100 reasons why I would have banned him, but I don't remember why exactly the trigger was pulled. I think he went off on people ripping on him about stuff and probably said some things that weren't acceptable.
  18. Expectations media attention will certainly be very high in Chicago. But they were out of control in Boston. Chicago will still be very demanding of course, but I think he's right that it won't be Boston-demanding. I can see that. You have to remember that Boston is a much smaller market and town. Boston proper has 20% of the population of Chicago, and Boston metro is a little more than half the size of Chicago metro. People think Chicago is provincial, but New England is truly provincial. There are not a ton of outsiders in NE/Boston. They all were born there, grew up there, and now live and work there. Everyone cares about the Red Sox. Chicago has a lot more factors. They have a significant population of transplants from Michigan, St. Louis, Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio. Not to mention that 40% of the city roots for the other in town team. Granted, whatever I say about Chicago having transplants, its tenfold in New York. But New York is such an overwhelming place, and the co-center of media in the US, they can totally obsess over everything the Yankees do and there will be an audience willing to follow it. Chicago has its own pressures. No one ever said the media here takes it easy on our sports teams. We have some of the biggest a-hole reporters in the country that want nothing more than to bring down players that don't treat them properly. The fans are passionate enough to boo the [expletive] out of people when things aren't going well, and have always been willing to turn on an underperforming player and drive them out of town. If Theo thinks he's going to have a southern cal laid back existance in Chicago, he's in for a shock. But I highly doubt he thinks that.
  19. Not following that. that definitely doesn't make any sense. They are just jealous that their baseball team has as many leaks as the titanic, while the Cubs are stealthy.
  20. I know we've all been burned by false reports in the past and all of that, but trust me this is a done deal. But obviously Theo is under contract with Boston and will be until the Cubs and Red Sox agree on compensation. The Cubs and Red Sox are in different leagues, so it doesn't hurt to utilize Epstein until everything is complete. Not that Cherington would need much ramping up, but I'm sure Theo is doing what he can to get the new GM prepared for the job. It's similar but not exactly like when teams are working out the pieces of a trade for a player. He doesn't leave the team (although he doesnt play for fear of injury. don't think the Cubs are worried about that), he stays with the team until he's not on that team anymore, except in the rare case when they send em home. But obviously Henry and Epstein have always had a strong respectful relationship so he's not going to kick Theo to the curb. With all of the major news outlets reporting the deal as fact, all the analysts discussing how the move effects both teams, all the introspective articles written about Theo and his new career challenge, it would be nearly unprecidented if it didn't happen.
  21. If you don't know why da Bum was banned, I don't know what to tell you.
  22. Oh damn, that was Laddy (not to be confused with Leddy)? I couldn't tell but I was laughing my ass off with the whiffs. The Carcillo collision with Hossa happened right in front of me. Had SCF flashbacks there.
  23. Oh that's right, you are too young to be a part of the original NSBB photo thread. im pretty sure i've looked through that thread, but a lot of the photos were down and a lot of the people who posted in it were people who were before my time ah yeah. That was a fun thread...back in the day when Facebook didn't exist so you had no idea what people looked like unless they felt like sharing. Anyways, if you want to see what I look like, look up Tony DeMaria on Facebook, I don't think I have much in the way of privacy settings so feel free to oogle me to your hearts content.
  24. How could you? Someone was jokingly suggesting we do another best poster tournament, but I think we should do a "best banned or departed posters tournament". We all know Bum would win it, but deciding who he plays in the final would be fun. Banned Bracket: Deucebaseman YanrSlatr CubbieBum Mizzou wrigley23 (is he still an active member?) ZZ Thorn reds44 Many many more...... Voluntarily left bracket: Jon DiamondJaxx 1/2 of VancetheCubsFan gooney's evil twin (I know) JC Chocolate Milk Meph sunnydoo frostwyrm (nominated solely for politics thread contributions) Forgot about Meph and JC, thought about CM but left him out on accident. RedFlash and CUBSFANINSTL are 2 more I came up with.
