  1. I think Maddon was always treating this like a bullpen game unless Hammel showed up with great stuff and/or the Cubs had a lead.
  2. Yup, now all he had to do was force himself to remember to get an out instead of give up a HR and he was set
  3. Nah because the bases will be empty after Monteros grand slam
  4. Maddon gave him a pep talk in between innings and told him to throw the pitches that get outs.
  5. Read your post aloud. If that [expletive] forgot to tell himself not to suck in the 1st again.... Was Ski the one that said Rizzo should be teaching the others how to choke up and get hits with 2 strikes but he's hoarding the knowledge for himself?
  6. Dammit come on Cubs I don't want Hendricks to go game 2 of the NLCS
  7. Lackey and to a larger extent the St. Louis Cardinals are proof karma doesn't exist. Just thought I'd share that.
  8. That feels unlikely. Wishful thinking then?
  9. This might be Hammels last appearance in a Cubs uniform
  10. Hollandsworth points out that our runs this series have been scored on: 7 HRs 2 safety squeeze bunts 1 IF single That's nuts Edit: whoops this is the non Cubs thread
  11. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/tbs-please-fix-your-strike-zone-graphic/ Interesting fangraphs article about TBS's small strike zone. I guess their conclusion is that TBS uses a 'rulebook' strike zone for their graphic whereas the other networks use a strike zone that reflects the average called strike zone which is in reality is larger than the rulebook states it should be and is growing.
  12. Honestly my biggest fear with Kyle is giving up bombs...in these conditions that's less likely so if Hammel gets hammered early and we need 6-7 innings from the pen, then its not a bad option. I thought wind was blowing out to RF? I was reading pregame tweets that said it was a crosswind and with the temperature drop, unfavorable hitting conditions overall. Who knows though, it could change in a hurry.

  14. chickens eggs count hatch etc I think I clearly stated that we are one win away from that, and this is whats at stake. Trust me I know your team's recent postseason history
  15. 1 win away...yes the Cardinals will always have their stupid 11 titles and 2 recent ones..one playoff series won't change the historical dominance. But if we can get that one win and eliminate the Cardinals...for the first time we can stand up to their fans and feel good about ourselves (in baseball terms only, we always feel better about ourselves in every other aspect of life). Sure there have been years where the Cubs are clearly better than the Cardinals, years where we went to the playoffs and they didn't, memories like the Sandberg game and the 5 game series in 03 where we bested them, but never have any of us been able to stand toe to toe with the Cardinals and feel a sense of superiority. We will have played the stupid pixie dust douchebag mouth breathers and personally ended their season. Yes the fact that the Cubs have advanced in the playoffs will be the more important takeaway from the series, but in terms of the historical rivalry, that is what's at stake today.
  16. Not too shocked. I mean you'd like to get the guy in there that's got good numbers against Lackey (although didnt do so well in Game 1), but who are you going to sit between Soler and Schwarber? I don't agree with hurting your defense by starting him at 2B (well actually the best idea was to get him 1 AB and PH for him). So oh well, just sucks for Cogs that Soler and Schwarber blew up once the playoffs started, but doesn't at all suck for us.
  17. Lackey in 2015: 1.93 ERA at home, 3.82 ERA on road
  18. No. Last night was Monday. Today is Tuesday. The first game of the NLCS is Saturday. That means Arrieta would be going on full rest for Saturday's game. Exactly...Arrieta will almost certainly go Game 1 regardless of whether we in today or in Game 5. Heck we could even pitch Jake out of the pen for a couple of innings in Game 5 and he'd still be good to go for game 1.
  19. So despite worse time slots, apparently all 3 Cubs-Cardinals games have beaten Mets-Dodgers in national ratings Cubs got a 3.7 last night, Mets-Dodgers a 3.3 Imagine if we got a real time slot
  20. Can we reach out to Lackeys ex-wife and convince her to sit behind home plate wearing a Cubs jersey?
  21. Lackey on 3 days rest in his career (think this is only regular season but could be wrong): 2 GS, 9.1 IP, 10 H, 6 BB, 5 ER, 4.82 ERA Edit: I guess he's pitched on 3 days twice in the playoffs with considerably more success but both outings lasted less than 6 innings and it was back in 2002 and 2005
  22. I'm so happy I don't have to look for streams of Sotos and Derosas HRs to remember the 2 postseason highlights from a decade+ of Cubs baseball anymore. I have like 30 from this year already
  23. Well, 10-3 Mets right now. Looks like we're 1 game each away from a Mets/Cubs NLCS. How nuts would that be?
  24. Russell says he's feeling pretty good and is day to day
