  1. Maybe my Fangraphs data was a little off and Busch passed him mid June, but based on that and Busch's defense, there is absolutely no reason to be playing Turner right now. Busch has been one of the Cubs' best hitters and Busch's bad stretch against lefties early on in the season is no reason to be sitting him now. This really shouldn't be a hard decision.
  2. It’s one thing if Busch was just marginally better against lefties, but Busch has been significantly better than Turner since June against lefties
  3. Busch has a 150 wRC+ in 28 ABs against lefties since August 1
  4. Do you expect the Brewers let Busch face a righty at any point today?
  5. I wasn't advocating for Soroka or Assad or Civale as the game 1 starter. I didn’t think any of those had much of an advantage over the other. I just didn’t think that Soroka’s time as a National has much bearing on what he is right now. I preferred Rea. I’m more concerned about the Cubs offense than the pitching. The Cubs really need to score 5+ today.
  6. I agree with you on this, but I’m just not as interested in what a guy did 4 months ago compared to what he’s done as a Cub during and after an injury. Relievers are just too volatile and I want to lean on his most recent outings.
  7. If Soroka wasn’t injured, yes I would agree with you. Relievers and starters have a much shorter hook in the playoffs based on recent form and I would say the same for Soroka. Oddly enough, Soroka, before Saturday, had outings that were better than when he was with the Nationals.
  8. Soroka’s most recent form post injury is more indicative of how good a pitcher he is than his pre-injury stats. Those advocating for Soroka based on his pre-trade metrics are looking for what they want to find.
  9. I’m not anti-metrics by any stretch, but one of these days the metrics have to swing the Cubs way. Or else Counsell has bad hunches.
  10. No chance he goes over 4-5 innings. I’d be happy with 5 innings, 2 runs.
  11. There were no good options, but there were better and worse options. Boyd was right on the edge of a big inning in the WC round, struggled the second half, was not used to this innings load, and was coming off of short rest. Rea looked pretty good in his appearance on the WC round and had a significantly better second half than Boyd.
  12. Lol, who is not acknowledging it after the fact?
  13. It wasn’t egregious. Just the wrong one.
  14. I don’t see how “Boyd could just has easily pitched fine.” That reasoning could excuse every bad managerial decision ever made.
  15. I don’t see a scenario where Rea’s outing went worse than Boyd’s. This is the third time this series where Craig’s decisions have not worked (add in Shota pitching to Machado and trying to get 2 innings from Keller). That’s just too many bad ones in the biggest games of the season. I also feel like the offense is slipping through criticism. The pitching staff has pitched really well in 3/4 games, while the offense is averaging just over 2 runs a game. Offense, it’s your time to win a game and beat a staff that you should handle the next 3 games.
  16. Just their thing after every hit or homer. It was a muted version.
  17. The offense has to start showing something and they haven't done that all playoffs
  18. Definitely try to fix it, but you don't become a serviceable MLB catcher in one offseason. He has to also beat out two pretty solid MLB catchers.
  19. Horton, Steele, Boyd, Imanaga, Taillon, With Rea/Assad/Brown/Soroka/trades. It's already a good staff headed into next year.
  20. No. Shota, Taillon, and Boyd and if not Boyd then Rea.
  21. I wouldn't be opposed to that on the face of it, but Amaya cannot stay healthy and then you risk having Ballesteros and McGuire (or trading for another middling veteran catcher) as your catching tandem
