  1. And don't forget choking on your food. Or being run over by a bus while crossing the street. I'd really like Zambrano to get out of Chicago as soon as games are over. Too many murders. And he should start flying Qantas.
  2. Mark DeRosa was the starting 2B. Aaron Miles was not brought in to be the starting 2B.
  3. Aaron Miles is the only left handed 2B in baseball? Signing Miles was the mistake.
  4. As long as they were placed(and kept) on the major league roster for September, no option would be used.
  5. Do what? Something stupid? Not like the Dodgers gave up anything of value, but there'd be no point to this. Nevermind that Thome supposedly only wanted to go to a team that had a sure chance of playoffs. I read that as having the stones to drop worthless vets down the stretch. Yeah...that makes a lot more sense. Really Heilman's my only complaint, unless there was actually a taker for Dempster or Gregg, which I doubt at this point of the year.

  7. So you don't want us to use stats that prove you wrong? Pretty much. Can't anything be said for benching a player that (obviously) did not bring his best effort this year? Is that not a good example to set for a (supposedly) winning franchise? How do you know he didn't bring his best effort this year?
  8. Because you play in an adult county league and he plays in major league baseball.
  9. Geo should come back next year as a worse whiter hitter.
  10. Jesus wouldn't work for satan.
  11. Pretty sure they only need to be in the organization(while using 60 day DL shenanigans)
  12. I'll be there in section 131. Fairweather customers are nice.
  13. I know Aaron Heilman is from Notre Dame and all, but why exactly is he still on this team?
  14. I'd have to guess failure to sign autograph.
  15. Oh, and the catcher is supposed to be a run producer. Soto has 22 RBI in 68 ABs with RISP. Hill has 13 RBI in 55 ABs with RISP. But no, let's sign Hill to an extension LOL. Or something.
  16. Those 10 AAA ABs Blanco had really had an impact on him in '07.
  17. Wasn't Upton awesome in '07 and pretty good in '08(while injured)? Seems like people are writing him off a bit prematurely. I'd love him on this team.
  18. You're ignoring statistical variation. You're judging a player on a small fraction of one season's ABs, and saying he's no good because of that. The point of referencing career totals is to show that basing your judgment of Bradley off of his BA with RSIP over a scattered 74 ABs means virtually nothing.
  19. Likely leaks from the teams who claimed them. just seems like bullcrap that this is happening to the cubs. this team has enough internal problems without this coming out. It's just guys on waivers, it's not like it's the Kazmir situation.
  20. Just watching BJs and Red Sox game and some RISP avgs came up: Bay's avg w/ risp is about 100 points higher than his overall avg. (so the differential to no risp would be even higher) JD Drew's is 80 points lower; Vwells is a lot lower as well - bunch of others I can't recall now - easy enough to look up somewhere I suppose. Bay's 7 points higher in his career. Drew's 4 points lower in his career. Wells's 7 points lower in his career. The difference is negligible.
  21. All of that's only relevant if you feel that a guy performs differently with RISP than he does without.
  22. no. They still ignore a lot of available information on players and base their decision making too heavily purely on scouting; still play too much small-ball; etc. However, they're a pretty well run org for the most part. Well how hands on do you want him to be? I have a hard time attributing much blame to the owner for how the manager of his club manages. Thinking about where the Angels were perceived when he took over to where they are today, I can't think of anyone better.
  23. Oh, and loosely related to this, is Arte Moreno the best owner in sports?
  24. Kazmir is due 8M next year and 12M in '11. He's been awful all year(likely due to injuries) If they don't think he's a good bet to give them complete seasons, this is a good deal to get out from under his contract.
