  1. Is it news that Kevin McHale wants a job?
  2. Rankings 6 months before the season start always have some great head-scratchers. OSU at 4, their recruiting class is sick, but come on you're losing the best player in the country who happened to be your point. KU at 11 (I laughed in Hosak's face about Tennessee having a better shot than KU at a title, but come on, they lose probably their 3 best players. Selby's not that great. Oooh look Gonzaga is horribly overrated. That's new. I don't even think Temple makes the tourney. Butler at 25th seems underrated, even without Hayward.
  3. I'm thinking one of DJ or Bertrand will emerge as a capable point this season, but I agree with your overall point. I'd still like to get Randle. I prefer having 2 PGs on the court when possible.
  4. Why are we acting like a team's record on May 11th is more important than their record on June 2nd? That team's record wasn't likely to "bounce back" Based on their run differential they were expected to finish about 8 games under 500. Nobody is Scott GFing this saying we have a great chance to make a run, but yes, 5 games under after 33 games is too easy to write off a season.
  5. I would be extremely happy if the NBA put an NFL style age limit in place. I like college basketball much more than NBA basketball and would have loved to see Lebron in college. Not so sure the Hogs would have completely fallen off the map if Al Jefferson had been forced to go to college for 3 years. MLB's rules are the way to go. The NBDL really needs to be developed for this to work. There's no European option for high school baseball players. I could see a lot of kids passing on deciding to committ for 3 years and heading overseas. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but being realistic about the NBA implementing it, they'd have to some sort of minor league. Stern kept trying to expand internationally, maybe he could link up with one of the Euro leagues as a minor league?
  6. That's not true. The Cubs were 22-31 on June 2nd in 2007. And yeah, that team only wound up with 85 wins as it backed its way in, and 85 wins isn't going to get it done, but we're also not 9 games under on June 2nd YET.
  7. do you think the Red Sox fan base would diminish if you built a new park in a different location? How many of their fans only go for Fenway/the neighborhood experience? I don't know enough about the Red Sox to answer too in-depth. The scene around Fenway is not comparable to the scene around Wrigley though. I don't know what Boston's comparitive Naperville is, but if they have one and moved a park there, then yes, they'd absolutely lose money.
  8. I don't know what constitutes a riot in Utah, but it might happen tonight.
  9. That's not really accurate. ok. how? Depends on your definition of very good I guess, but if you're willing to put Heyward's ceiling as absurdly high as the 20th best player of all time, I don't think it's outrageous to say Castro can be better than "very good"
  10. You have bigs you can throw it down to? They'll be thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin down low. Especially when you figure Zeller should be out for the year by that game.
  11. That's not really accurate.
  12. Mariners caught a break. (Still love you Ken)
  13. Kwame Brown. I can't think of another reason. But yeah, there's no higher attrition rate for high schoolers than there is for college players, it doesn't really make sense.
  14. MSU @ DUKE OSU @ FSU PU @ VT NCST @ WI
  15. Illinois gets UNC in Champaign for the Challenge
  16. Are you ok with no limit on how often a coach can call a 15 year old kid? Should there be restrictions on when he can place calls? How bout visits? Can he wait outside his school every day for a week? The NCAA is FUBAR, but it doesn't mean there's no basis for their restrictions. We don't really have a problem sending young tennis/gymnastics/music prodigies that are much younger than that to go to a school almost entirely devoted to getting better at tennis/gymnastics/music. But those kids aren't young and black and from poor neighborhoods so we don't see the need to save them from themselves. Any person that you see in Olympics, and many, many levels of competition below that has had a far more regimented lifestyle for longer than the typical big time college hoops or football player. Were you replying to somebody else. None of that has anything to do with what I posted. I said nothing about overworking a kid or taking away their chance at a pro career. If a parent decides to send their kid elsewhere to develop their gifts, then go right ahead. I've got no problems with schools like Oak Hill or Findlay, it makes sense. If you want to get on somebody for not giving poor black youths a chance to make money, get on the NBA for the age limit they put into place because they want to cover their own stupid asses because they don't know how to judge high school talent. They better be careful with their labor situation, because an extended lockout is going to lead to a whole lot of US talent playing overseas, and all you need is a few success stories before that jump starts happening from high school. I bet we'd see the age limit rule repealed real quickly after that.
  17. You're not sure why they would extend an offer to ND? In light of the statements coming from the athletic department, yes. Especially after all those reports that the Big Ten wasn't going to offer them anything and that they'd basically have to beg on their knees to get membership. Swarbick has been over the place with his statements. You can't read much of anything into it. No AD is going to come out and say, yep, we're going.
  18. Texas would've been the best team in the Big Ten that year. If you're argumentative and hyperbolic with every post you make, no one is going to take you seriously. I wasn't being hyperbolic; I just think the Big Ten was crap in 2007. Texas managed to avoid Kansas and Missouri, and still finished with 3 losses in conference. They weren't any good that year.
  19. We also didn't play them either. You, I, Soul, or Hawkeyecub would not be so lucky with expansion. Why would we have to play them every year?
  20. Texas didn't stop you guys from being relevant that one year you weren't picked for the BCS.
  21. Willie Randolph?
  22. Are you ok with no limit on how often a coach can call a 15 year old kid? Should there be restrictions on when he can place calls? How bout visits? Can he wait outside his school every day for a week? The NCAA is FUBAR, but it doesn't mean there's no basis for their restrictions.
  23. So you'd rather the Big Ten have Texas than Mizzou, Nebraska and Rutgers? Without question
