This isn't meant as an insult, I believe Illinois will hire a very good, well sought after coach. But Brad Stevens is exceedingly unlikely to happen. Sure it was. Go lose by 50.

I'm sure there's somebody else out there I'm forgetting, but yeah those 3 would be fine. I'd still take Stevens, but the only real chance there is that this year was a wakeup call that Butler can't stay good forever and he decides to strike while the iron's hot. Still think he stays though.

ig said he gets it within 60 days Update on The Score just said that alumni/donors have made it clear to the AD that the buyout should not be a factor in his decision to fire or not fire Weber. It's just too bad that his hands are going to be tied by the BOT in the hiring process. It won't be. The donors are gonna cover the buyout. He was talking about the BOT wanting a minority coach. Considering 2 of the best candidates are minorities, it shouldn't matter.

I said that about the 89 team too. I was too young to get too attached to those guys. My dad still hates Sean Higgins. My love affair with Illini basketball was founded in 1989. I still can't believe they lost to Michigan. The Nick Anderson shot in Bloomington still gives me goosebumps. Mine was the Kiwane Garris Deon Thomas era. And I love Frankie. When he dismantled Hinrich it was amazing. Upperclassman Garris here. Too young for Deon.

I hope Cody Zeller gets hit by a bus ETA: Not killing him, I'd never wish death on him, just paralyzed, not death. Not in the face either, it would ruin that bus. That's funny. This whole thing is funny. I don't have anything against Illinois. I hate Purdue, Wisconsin, and Iowa much more than I hate U of I. Hell, it was the best college campus I ever partied at. I just think it's funny how much you guys hate IU. It's like the White Sox fans, who didn't care that they didn't win anything for 70 years because the Cubs were so bad for most of that time. I think if there's one thing to take away from this thread, it's that Illinois fans don't care if they win or lose.

Depends. Can Egwu make the same leap that Leonard made? If he does anywhere close we will be decent. Abrams is going to be a lot better by next year. Having a good point guard will help out a lot. Mike Shaw is also our best rebounder. Leads the team in a wide marghin in rebounds per minute. Just because Bruce won't let a freshman play unless his hand is forced everyone assumes these kids suck. They don't. Not saying they suck, just saying that very limited experience and it's not like they are ADavis or CZeller. As for Egwu-Leonard, didn't Egwu only play like 3 years of HS basketball? That's a lot of coordination/skill development to rely on. 3 years in the CCL > Leonard's experience in the Soybean conference while being 6'4" until his junior year.

His resume at Washington is positively Weber-like. He can't go a season without some dumbfounding loss to a terrible team.

Quoting because I kept editing. Why are all the freshmen going to leave when we'd have a new coach? ETA: Gary Williams hates recruiting. He's a good guy, but he'd be a disaster here. Ok thanks for clarifying on Williams. Thomas hung Weber out to dry on radio, making him a lame duck. Now I agree change is necessary, but every coach wants an AD who will have his back in public. Smart and Thomas worked together at Akron, and I think it is this type of behavior that will turn him away from our job. He said he'd re-evaluate at the end of the year. It's all you really can say in that situation. I'd think if a potential coach were to be pissed off about that it would be an older guy not a young guy like Smart. OR AG!!!

I don't think anyone alleges those teams as tourney teams anymore. They could each play their way in, but given their recent play, and the schedules, they'll all probably fall short. And then Iowa State will be left out in favor of La Salle

i don't get your manlove for grant. He made VCU, and then took a stagnant Bama team and made them pretty damn good. They're not going to look great by the end of the year, but that'll be because he suspended like half his team. And he's doing it with one of the youngest teams in the country.
