Wood has to be gone, right? It seems odd that they would sacrifice the ability to trade Wada over a million dollars. Perhaps I'm being dense, but how did they sacrifice their ability to trade Wada? Maybe they still can, his is a somewhat unique case so if he technically never reached free agency and it's actually a 1 year extension they may still have the right. Otherwise since he wasn't under contract or team control yet, one could also infer that he signed as a free agent, and can't be traded til midseason. The other thing that makes this a bit better is that Arizona Phil says that Wada still has 2 options left. If they're able to keep them at Iowa if they like, that's a lot more palatable as a depth move since Turner and Doubront don't have options. It could also be an indicator that they're going to spend a good deal of cash this year if they're committing 4 million to a guy not guaranteed an MLB roster spot. Wada has to approve of being sent down though.
