He needs to go elsewhere if he wants to be a coach. i won't mind him as a coach. tie game when we've outplayed them this half by a wide margin. me either, but he needs to see someone else's style. Can't just stay with one guy or you end up like a Duke assistant. I don't imagine him going straight from Illinois grad assistant to assistant coach. I'd imagine he'd do that here, then go to a smaller program as an assistant, with an eye on coming back when a spot opens up. I hope that's the path he takes. SIU with the Lowry connection might be a way to get to a nice program for a couple of years as well. I wouldn't mind seeing him go somewhere with a little less "grind it out defensive war" mentality. Though I guess you're looking at 5-10 years down the line when he'd possibly be back here, so projecting anything that far is foolish. This team might be run and gunning it by then. Depends how the 5th graders are in our state. I don't ever think he'll be our head guy though. That will be Jerence. Sucks for Chet. I wasn't really thinking about him as a head coach(but as I said you can't really project that stuff 10 years in the future. Jerrance could get a nice head coaching gig in 5 years and have his roots set there for 10 years before we need a new coach. Or things could go to [expletive], and the whole staff could be fired. My point was to have a different viewpoint on the bench as an assistant. It'd be nice to have a guy on the bench with a different viewpoint pushing on Bruce to up the tempo.

I snoozed my alarm 20 times(not an exaggeration) because I set it for 11, and somebody told me the U of I game was on early today. By the time I had the energy to check the time of the game it was 12:40. The game is tomorrow. Davidson sucks.

The point(at least my point) is you don't worry about an emergency catcher when deciding who your final roster spot goes to.

How is it a no brainer to hold on to the worst of your 5 OFs? Because Byrnes wasn't a prospect with trade value. Young and Upton were the top two of the remaining four. They traded the bottom two. Did you skip the last 15 posts or so? The issue was choosing Byrnes over Gonzalez and Quentin back in August.

Matt Craig signed elsewhere because we woulda sent him to Peoria this year to get some work in at bullpen catcher. Lou Piniella still hates Fox from 2007. Casey McGehee was the worst Cub in the last 50 years.

How is it a no brainer to hold on to the worst of your 5 OFs? The ink was dry on his contract. As I said, the crowded OF didn't all of a sudden come up in October. They knew what they had when they signed that moronic contract. Whether it was pressure from Moorad as rumored, or Byrnes falling in love with the grit, it was a terrible decision.

Fourth or fifth. Carlos Gonzalez and Carlos Quentin was better than him and so was Brett Anderson. Gio Gonzalez might have. They were separate trades. Quentin went for Carter. Gonzalez and De Los Santos went for Swisher Carter, CarGo, Cunningham, Smith, Eveland and Anderson went for Haren & Connor Robertson.

Carlos Quentin didn't appear out of nowhere. Eric Byrnes didn't suck out of nowhere. And Chris Carter certainly wasn't what acquired Dan Haren. There were six players involved in that trade and Carter was probably the 3rd best prospect of the 6.
