  1. there's a big difference; jenkins spent the prime of his career with the cubs while maddux really only had one great year as a cub and then built his hall of fame resume in another uniform. If Maddux's '89 wasn't great, then Jenkins only had 1 great year too. And Derwood they've retired 4 numbers: Banks, Williams, Sandberg, Santo. Gabby should be on there but he kept changing #s.
  2. If you're going to argue against Maddux's being retired, you should probably argue against Fergie too. Jenkins's career with the Cubs isn't that spectacular or long.
  3. So Detroit should retire Smoltz's number? No, they should retire Glavine's. Snark aside, you don't see the difference between Maddux's Cub career and Smoltz's Tiger career? Or their careers as a whole?
  4. I might stop being a Cub fan that day.
  5. Sorry Snood. (Not really, burn in hell Jayhawks)
  6. I think it's a terrible idea to drag out the tournament even longer. Look at the teams that were on the bubble. We don't need more of them, even if it's not "officially" the tournament. You think that much has changed in the past 3 years?
  7. 34 and never 21. Sammy was way more important to, and a better player than Kerry Wood was. It's not particularly close.
  8. the only upset anyone has in the first round is a team that lost by 30 to murray state beating illinois. I really don't see it happening with WKU's tallest player being 6'9. Mike and Mike should have huge games. well, i'd say that 90% of everyone who has done a bracket has westen kentucky winning, regardless of the fact that they lost to florida international. i don't care a whole lot, but it's annoying seeing everyone who has wku beaming about it like they're some sort of genius because they saw jay bilas pick them. i hope the team reacts to it and runs up the score. chester is a major loss on the defensive end, though. We did fine against Michigan without him, and I don't think there's a Manny Harris on Western Kentucky.
  9. If Mizzou drew any of the other 14 seeds, I think I'd have them losing. Same with Gonzaga and the 13s and Utah and the 12s. What an awful year for first round upsets.
  10. Gonzaga sucks.
  11. Goran Suton was out for the early part of the schedule, including the UNC and Maryland losses. Raymar Morgan was out during the middle of the Big Ten season, which included the PSU and Northwestern losses. They are allegedly healthy now. Who was out for the Morgan St. loss? Probably somebody on Maryland. Or some other team that actually lost to them.
  12. The horse's name is Friday.
  13. collegeinsider.com needs to have more [expletive] on their front page.
  14. That charge was ludicrous.
  15. And Chris Kramer's continued insistence on breathing.
  16. I'm sorry, I feel so stupid for buying into it this whole time. Which one of you regulars has pulled off this Voice of Reason character for the past couple years? Cause, really just bravo.
  17. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090314&content_id=3986650&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc gross. sounds like a strict platoon to me Miles getting 400 ABs isn't a strict platoon, it's the stuff of horrific nightmares.
  18. I agree it doesn't sound stupid to me either. Fontenot-247/305/675 - last two years against LH pitching Miles-297/374/732- last three years against LH pitching So against LH pitching we could get either simliar production to 08 Theriot from 2b, or simliar production to 08 Cedeno? I don't think it will be a strict platoon, but this is what I think Lou will usually go with. Playing Fontenot everyday will probably make him closer to a 750-760 OPS guy, but play him against mostly RH pitching, and in a platoon. We could get close to 800 OPS from the 2b postion, even with Miles OPS bring it down. It still won't bring it down nearly as low as Fontenot would. I'm not really opposed to Miles playing vs lefties, but cmon, Fontenot has like 8 career ABs vs lefties.
  19. I wouldn't put it past the buffoons in charge underseeding us by 3.
  20. I hope Devendorf makes an exception to his women only rule and punches Chris Kramer in the face. Course, Kramer would fall once Devendorf got within the stateline of him and the police would arrest him for it.
  21. Mike Slive looks like death.
  22. Digger Phelps is as dumb as they come. The Big Ten is just beating up each other?? UCLA, Duke, Texas, Oklahoma St., BC, Butler, Louisville, Missouri, FSU. Kiss my ass you piece of [expletive].
  23. well 3 of those 4 would have to be the two UConn and one Syracuse team that won it all, so who is the other? Last 20 years (1989-2008) 1989 - Seton Hall 1996 - Syracuse 1999 - UConn 2003 - Syracuse 2004 - UConn 2007 - Georgetown So he was right It's a little misleading cause it doesn't include current BE teams that went under different conferences (Louisville '05, Marquette with Wade, maybe another) But guess what conference is 2nd in final four appearances over like any timeframe. I'm way more curmudgeonly than usual this morning/afternoon. I think I'm getting the anger out now so I can deal iwth the morons tomorrow.
  24. That was just one example of many. The greatest legitimate home run hitter of all time, Hank Aaron, never hit 50 home runs in a season but Brady Anderson did. I guess you're right, the steroid era didn't skew the stats at all. I realize it's tough to admit that the baseball you have watched most of your life has been tainted by steroids but it is what it is. And Hank Aaron took greenies, so was he really legit? Don't bother.
