  1. The likelihood of Hart throwing 2-3 scoreless innings was pretty low. I do agree that it was a bit risky to leave Demp in because of health questions, but the chances of a run or runs scoring in that situation were fairly high no matter which decision Lou made. Hart was brought up to eat innings, but not in the late innings of a 1-run game. As gassed as Dempster was, the better choice likely would have been to pull him and get an extra inning out of Hart, but runs were likely to score no matter which decision Lou made. So if it was likely both pitchers were going to give up a run, perhaps he shouldn't have let a pitcher(a bad hitting one at that) bat for himself.
  2. I'd take Kevin Hart over a gassed Dempster every time.
  3. Damn, thats like us losing Aramis, Soriano, Lee, Harden, Dempster, and Marmol all at once, and of course, its all just in time to face the Cardinals. hoffpauir for wright? +1 of Hart or Atkins.
  4. This is assuming Martinez's bat can play at 1B. Martinez's eqa in 2006 was .293 and in 2007 it was .296. Last year was much worse, but he was injured. If he can return to those 06 and 07 numbers (not completely unrealistic given this year's start), he can play at first - especially at less than $10 million a year. He'll also have a whole lot of innings behind the plate under his belt.
  5. Damn, thats like us losing Aramis, Soriano, Lee, Harden, Dempster, and Marmol all at once, and of course, its all just in time to face the Cardinals. not really . maine, perez, and putz have all been crappy this season. And Carlos Delgado is 100 years old.
  6. Seriously, how much did Bob Brenly hate that move.
  7. Frank Thomas was released last year 16 games into his season solely because of his contract. I don't know how you go about proving that you were released solely for financial reasons, cause if Thomas couldn't then Ordonez certainly can't.
  8. Yea I was there also, sitting in the left/center bleachers, and the bleachers cleared out quite a bit when the 9th inning was over. I was like wtf. Yea it was hot as hell, and I definately paid for it(forehead and head with blisters from sunburn) but that was the best game Ive ever been to in person. The only thing I was wondering is if people had the 5pm Amtrak to hit or something. I was sitting in between Indians fans, and they weren't leaving. AND they had a 6 hour drive home to contend with. I was afraid the crowd mix was going to approach 50/50 levels for awhile, though it never got that bad. Yeah. If the Indians fans can stick around in the heat for their ballclub, I'll be damned if I'm letting them chase me out. It sounded like a 50-50 split late in the game.
  9. Yes, that's true. The problem lies in the fact that even when you take their career splits vs. left handers you're dealing with numbers that are small enough that's not a good idea to draw any statistical inferences from them. In which case you would look to historical #s showing that lefties hit worse against lefties.
  10. Mitch Atkins has no trade value. Mitch Atkins has no trade value. Mitch Atkins has no trade value. Mitch Atkins has no trade value. Mitch Atkins has no trade value. Mitch Atkins has no trade value. Mitch Atkins has no trade value.
  11. Absolutely not. This is a team in dire need of cheap players, Soto is making the minimum(or close to it) and we have control over for the next 4 years for a guy that has been talked about moving out of catcher for the past 2 years.
  12. Stop talking to her. Unless she's hot.
  13. Every single time. Even when he was asked about it without it actually happening, he whined. Link?
  14. Gregg lost his role as closer when he had nagging injuries put him on the shelf at the beginning of September.
  15. I know that at least UZR doesn't figure receiving into their ratings. I don't think any of them really do, but I could be off on that. That's Lee's strong suit, he doesn't have great range.
  16. I strongly disagree. I think minor league coaching is very important when developing prospects. I think I value minor league coaching more than major league coaching.
  17. ...wow. That is a pretty crazy thing to say. Farney. I really hope Hendry understands the concept of sunk cost and dumps Miles for Freel. I know Freel's hurt all the time, but Scales-Miles-Freel are at worst comparable(As long as Blanco backs up SS). Aaron Miles has no place on this team.
  18. Basically received nothing that will help this year(though I could see Stevens doing something in the pen), but Archer and Gaub(along with Stevens) are at least interesting prospects.
  19. Heilman and Patton are currently the 11th and 12th men on the staff. If they were to pitch in a close world series game for the Cubs it would be because the game went 16 innings(Heilman) or one of the first 6 guys in the pen got hurt and the game went 16 innings (Patton)
  20. They didn't sell all their shares. They have an ~18% ownership stake remaining.
  21. this, typed before the bottom of the 8th inning began, is quite impressive. Check his posts 2 games ago. It's stopped clock optimism. Compared to the morons that predict double plays every time a guy gets on 1st(then congratulate themselves when it happens once every 12 chances) I'll take it.
  22. Alfonso Soriano is the coolest [expletive] this side of Milton Bradley.
  23. Nobody is complaining about Gooz
