  1. Rosenthal saying the Red Sox declined to make an offer to Sveum. I do like this little blurb about Fielder in his column. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-offer-managing-job-to-milwaukee-brewers-hitting-coach-dale-sveum-111611
  2. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/7244960/chicago-cubs-offer-dale-sveum-managerial-job-source-says Ha! Henry and Lucchino have to be ready to fly here and punch Ricketts. 8-)
  3. The Red Sox have to be sick of us by now. I know Dale was their top choice.
  4. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/8888680-573/sveum-appears-to-be-the-man.html
  5. Thankfully, it's just a rumor. Of course, his one shining moment was against us. http://sports.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474980779748
  6. So Maddux was the Lamborghini and Sveum was the Lexus. Theo and Jed have to settle for the Lexus.
  7. My bad, guys. Well, it will probably take that much to land him so we shall see what the actual number is. Either way, time to hopefully set our sights on Prince.
  8. Confirmed offer is 9/225 from the Marlins. http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/sports/2011/11/16/agent-for-albert-pujols-talks-with-cardinals-marlins-offer-225-million-report/
  9. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/7240181/gm-jed-hoyer-spoke-glowingly-chicago-cubs-icon-kerry-wood Ok, sign Wood, deal Marmol and insert Marshall as the closer? Of course, we may deal for a closer but I like the idea of Woody coming back.
  10. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi Prince Fielder won't return to #Brewers -- but says he's open to a mystery team in Italy. http://FOXSports.com story: http://bit.ly/rxV8Jw
  11. Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal 23 minutes ago Confirmed: #Marlins' offer to Pujols is indeed 9 years, as @TBrownYahoo suggested. As I reported initially, offer "substantial." #STLCards
  12. Who said anything about dollars being close? Nobody ever said Pujols would leave St. Louis over a negligible amount of money. That's a COMPLETELY different argument. And that brings me back to Albert. The Cardinals offered him a very substansial package to stay there. There is no way the Cubs are going to blow the offer the Cardinals made him out of the water. NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN. If the Cubs offered him 210M over the course of the contract to the Cards 200M, he'd most likely stay in STL and it has everything to do with loyalty to an organization. If the Cubs offered 250M, that is different. But again, that is also not happening.
  13. When did Sandberg SAY that? And the Cubs already said to him: "No thanks". He has no choice but to look at other opps. If MB or Pujols sign here, I will be the first to admit I was wrong. When did Sandberg say what? You're wrong whether they sign here or not. Answer the question I already asked you...do you really think that if the Cubs made the clear best offer to Buehrle (which they won't, because they aren't dumb enough to overpay for him...and with as much interest as there is in him, he will be overpaid), he would pass up the most money and being able to stay in Chicago just because he played for the White Sox and he once made fun of Wrigley Field (as a member of the White Sox)? I can't answer that because I am not Buehrle. All things being equal, if both the Cubs and White Sox offered him a fair contract (and that is basically what either team can offer at this point) but ours was worth slightly more, I think he would stay on the South Side. Belive it or not, sometimes players do feel a loyalty towards an organization and it's fan base if the dollars are close.

  15. Where did you read that? Too many times he has made snarky comments about our fans, stadium and team. Read between the lines and you know he is not coming here.
  16. You're right, he doesn't. That's why he told his agent to cut off all contact with them! So if Buehrle gets the best offer out there and it's from the Cubs, why not come pitch here?
  17. And if being a rival means nothing, David, why does Mark Buerhle want absolutely nothing to do with the Cubs?
  18. These are all very modern comparisons. Could you imagine Favre going to the Vikings?? That's not the Bears and he took a major beating for it. Newsflash - the Vikings are major rivals to the Packers. Especially in the Favre era. And he took a major beating for it. And he also was not WANTED by the Packers at the time. If STL flat out said: "ALlbert, you're done and we do not need you, we have Aaron Rodgers waiting" that's different. STL still wants Albert to stay and offered him a pretty damn good contract to do so.
  19. Yea, because Cleveland and Miami are arch rivals. Cleveland does not even have an enemy in hoops.

  21. These are all very modern comparisons. Doesn't matter.
  22. Well, obviously, Soriano's contract is absolutely killing us. Even if the Cubs pay 75% of the contract to move him, you'd have to find a taker. There just seems to be very little interest in him. If he's here, we just are not going to be able to shell out another 200M for another player when Soriano is owed more than 50M still.
