  1. And now Fielder and Boras are doing a happy dance. I have to think Boras will command at least 175-200M for Prince if Albert got a quarter of a billion.
  2. Kurjian just said that Albert has been upset with the Cards for about 2-3 years. Lots of rumblings about Albert not feeling the love from the organization and them not taking care of this sooner. The Cardinals let it go too far and now it is too late.
  3. Well, I think this clearly gives us a a chance to take over the division rather quickly if we sign Prince. Get it done, team Theo. If we add Prince and one or two more starters, It is not a stretch for us to win next year.
  4. Per ESPN, It's a done deal. 10 year/250 or 260M. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/7330066/sources-albert-pujols-takes-10-year-deal-los-angeles-angels
  5. maybe he had to take a dump Or Gammons was stalking him.
  6. They had an interview with Epstein on WGN Chicago and I have to say, he sounded (and looked like he was) full of crap when asked if the Cubs were on the verge of anything big. "No, small deals we are making progress on but nothing big". Big puppy dog eyes, sounded down and looked away from the camera many times. I have a feeling we are going to do something big.
  7. I feel like you're stuck in the old Jim Hendry mindset... where we've got x amount of money and we must spend every single penny of it. Theo and Hoyer are good at what they do in large part because they realize when it's a good idea not to spend that money. If the contracts Pujols and Fielder are getting would hamper the Cubs more than they're worth, I imagine we're exploring other options to fill that hole. Pujols I can see but there has not even been a market set on Prince. Heck, no one has even offered him a deal as far as we know. However, I understand your point with Theo and Jed. I know they have a plan.
  8. I used to like Olney but I feel like he's been all over the place this offseason. That said, I literally trust almost no reporter right now. Why would he tweet that if he had no source? He didn't tweet that the Cubs were GOING to emerge with a Ryan Howard like offer, he tweeted that the Cubs COULD GET Fielder, with a Howard type offer. Big difference. "MILW playing it right in the way they're negotiating with Fielder, but Cubs could grab this thing by the throat with Ryan Howard-type offer." Then why not insert any team in baseball in that tweet? And more to the point, why mention Howard's deal? He must have heard something.
  9. All I know is Jed dodged the questions today about Prince. I am not sure why, but I still feel they are flying under the radar with Pujols. Ricketts has an open checkbook, so why would we not be signifigant players for either Pujols or Fielder?

  11. And who is Olney's source that we are going to emerge with a Ryan Howard like offer for Prince? Does anyone consider him credible?
  12. Not the Marlins, not the Nats, then who is it???????????????
  13. Yes. it's on the other side of the hotel. But that place is so big you might not have seen it. If you do, you will love it. Great food and drinks and lots of the execs hang there.
  14. Old style: Have you checked out the gossip lounge bar there? What do you think of the hotel? I love that place.
  15. Meh, it seems that everyone on the Score thinks that Ricketts is flat broke and the Cubs should end up with a 90 mil payroll. Well, most of the score people are idiots, so no news there.
  16. What's this have to do with anything? Other than irrationally making Cubs fans scared of signing good free agents? Pure frustration. What I do not understand is if Ricketts gave Theo an open checkbook, why is he not making a serious play for either Pujols or Fielder? We have a glaring hole there. These guys help now and in the future. What makes you think he isn't? (More in regards to Fielder...as for Pujols, you can see where a 10 year deal might not be in the best interest) I hope he is. As I said, I thought we'd land one of the two and if we get neither knowing Theo and Jed have Tom's blessing to go after any player they want, It would be very disappointing.
  17. If you're mad about Soriano's contract, you shouldn't be all that envious. It seems like the Marlins will probably be stuck with a couple stinkers a few years from now. But yet these same Marlins, who play in front of 10,000 people, are rewarding their fans with a team that can compete for a title for years to come. The Cubs sell out and support this team and we get Bryan LaHair stories. Just frustrating.

  19. So 5 minutes after the Marlins signed Buerhrle, they were on the phone offering Wilson a 6 year deal. Man, have to admit I'm envious. They went hard after Pujols, are now linked to Prince and already have signed Reyes and Buehrle. Thanks for Soriano's contract, Hendry.
  20. Oh, now I get it. Jed did not say what they really feel about Prince because they are going to sweep in and steal Pujols. Yes, that is it!! :hello:
  21. They asked Jed straight up: 'What about Prince, why not build around him?" Jed: "If you consider him a long term asset, then that is a guy we talk about. We are looking for long term assets". Harold Reynolds: "Boy, you're good, you gave us nothing". He also said the farm system lacks the depth they want to sustain success. He mentioned Z having to do the right things instead of saying the right things. He basically did not show any indication what they are or aren't doing with Fielder.
  22. He's on with Bowa and Harold Reynolds. Will try and recap.
  23. Hoyer is on in 5 minutes on MLB network with Reynolds and Gammons. Should be good.
  24. Apparently nobody is interested in Fielder and he'll likely sign a 1/1.5 deal with the A's, Fielder shockingly settles for 6/$120 from the Brewers. Pujols takes 10/$225 from the Cardinals. The Cubs get a rock. Bryan LaHair
