Dallas - In what appears to be a much smaller market for free-agent slugger Prince Fielder than many expected, I have suspected all along that the Cubs eventually will be a team to jump in on him. When Dale Sveum was named manager, it provided another lure for Fielder. Here is a report that suggests the Cubs prefer Fielder over Albert Pujols, given a choice of the two. Whether that means they will actually make a strong bid for him remains to be seen. But, one by one, it seems other possible suitors are out. Yet, here is another report that says the Cubs have made a bid on Pujols. So, which of these reports do you believe? Perhaps the Cubs are covering both bases with the free-agent sluggers. The refrain I often get from Brewers fans regarding Fielder is "anybody but the Cubs" so this news will certainly be disturbing to them, if it's true that Chicago will make a play for him. Perhaps if they have no shot at Pujols, they go harder after Fielder. We will see. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/135094383.html
