  1. The fact that you think Corey Patterson was ultimately a flop shows that you are fantastically misunderstanding baseball teams and player value. Would it have been cool if Patterson hadn't hurt his knee or had developed some plate discipline or something? Sure. But the Cubs got several starting-caliber seasons out of him for a fraction of the money it would have cost to go out and get a free agent. Imagine the 2012 Cubs only had to pay Marlon Byrd and Ryan Dempster $500k each. That's what you get out of prospects who can step in to the big leagues and be adequate. Corey Patterson was indeed a flop.
  2. Okay, what do you believe the value of a well-regarded AA prospect to be? Depends on the situation. What did you believe Corey Patterson's value was? Extremely high when he was still a minor leaguer. I would've been pissed had we traded him for a GM. And he was an every day player who turned out to be a pretty decent sized bust.
  3. I know you're finding this extraordinarily difficult, but McNutt is not, nor has he ever been, the point. The point is that if Boston is demanding actual value like Garza/McNutt when they've already agreed to let him interview for a job where he gets more money and a promotion, and they'd have to pay huge money to keep a pissed off Theo for one year if it didn't go through, and they've already leaked that they've promoted a new GM, then they are out of their minds. And I agree with you 100% that the Red Sox are being douches here. And I did not say I wanted to give up on McNutt. However, we have proclaimed far too many Cubs prospects to be: "untouchable" only to see them flop.

  5. The next-best candidate+prospects, AINEC. If you truly believe that, then you shouldn't want Epstein at all. You should want Ricketts to hire the cheapest GM available, and pump the savings into the draft to get more prospects. Wait, two weeks ago, prior to him actually being granted permission to speak with the Cubs, Theo was merely 1 of 6-8 really good choices, and not even the top choice of many on here, but now he's the only possible choice? Or at least the far most qualified choice? I'd be perfectly happy with someone like Byrnes, Hahn, Beane or someone else that wouldn't cost someone like McNutt. Want to explain how one of those guys, or someone else similar, wouldn't make an extremely good GM for the Cubs if they indeed move on. Honest question. What has McNutt done?
  6. And none of us know if McNutt is indeed the piece the Red Sox want. The story about them wanting Garza (a guy who has been a stud) is where you draw the line. But for McNutt, GMAB.
  7. Nice Avatar and you'd be wrong about the troll comment.
  8. He and Marshall are the only ones who have done anything. And Marmol is not exactly setting the world on fire anymore.
  9. Look at this list dating back to 05 and 06 and you'll find two players that have been good major leaguers. And both of them were not in the: "can't miss kids class". Bust after bust on this list. 1. Brian Dopirak, 1B 2. Felix Pie, OF 3. Ryan Harvey, OF 4. Angel Guzman, RHP 5. Billy Petrick, RHP 6. Renyel Pinto, LHP 7. Sean Marshall, LHP 8. Jon Leicester, RHP 9. Grant Johnson, RHP 10. Jason Dubois, OF/1B 2006 (15) 1. Felix Pie, OF 2. Mark Pawelek, LHP 3. Ronny Cedeno, SS 4. Angel Guzman, RHP 5. Rich Hill, LHP 6. Sean Marshall, LHP 7. Ryan Harvey, OF 8. Brian Dopirak, 1B 8. Eric Patterson, 2B 10. Carlos Marmol, RHP
  10. and the Cubs wont give up McNutt because Theo and Ricketts wouldn't allow it to happen Don't count on it.
  11. I think a more realistic headline is, "Internet spaz 'Hollandsworth's mug' touches weiners." You like McNutt, don't you?
  12. Could you imagine a headline like: "UNBELIEVABLE! Agreed upon deal to bring Epstein to Cubs falls through because of Cubs refusal to give up double A pitcher Trey McNutt". Thankfully, I know Ricketts is not this ignorant and Theo will come here.
  13. Great, Laura. No doubt the Red Sox are playing hardball or this would have been done last week.
  14. Can't miss kid. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZYAWZCGRIfg/TjVUz8903cI/AAAAAAAACJs/3PtpF_R3Q4I/s1600/corey+patterson
  15. Never said we should. But if that's what it takes to make the deal, so be it. I wonder how many people would be happy if Vitters were included.
  16. I give up. Because I do not think the world ends if we give up McNutt? Because it's not about their relative value. It's about the fact that we have no reason to give up that much value, so we shouldn't. If you know you can buy a car for $25,000... are you going to throw them an extra $1000 just to avoid the headache of negotiating it down? A double A minor league prospect for a guy who has a solid model on how to win and win consistently is not a high price to pay. High ceiling guy or not.

  19. And those same people also loved Prior, Zambrano, Soto and Castro. I don't see how "sometimes prospects don't pan out" helps your argument at all. Prior and Soto are not exactly glaring examples of how great the farm system has been. Sure, Prior hot hurt so we'll never know. And Soto? Really? LOTS to prove there.
  20. The people on this site obsessed with McNutt and the Cubs minor league system are hilarious. These same people loved Bobby Browlie, Corey Patterson and Luis Montanez, just to name a few. The fact remains is that McNutt has seen his ERA climb to 4.72 in AA ball. Seriously, he's talented but not worth more than a competent GM/President. We turned Archer into Garza. If we need to turn McNutt into Epstein, so be it.

  25. It's shaping up as the wife/husband coming home from work after 10 years of marriage saying that she/he wants a divorce. The person on the receiving end of that news is hurt and not about to just say: "Hey, that's great". They are going to try and save the relationship and not give up without a fight. Nevermind the fact that the person who wants out probably did not feel appreciated for a long time.
