  1. Are you LaHair's dad or something? I'm going to guess the number of Omar Infante All-Star jersey sales were in the single-digits.
  2. Right, but how's Tim Saunders doing? All kidding aside, Correa is still 17, right?
  3. Peoria: Baez with a single the other way, but got picked off for his first CS of the year (now 11/12). Jensen with 1 unearned (E on Geiger) through 2IP (3K/0BB) Daytona: Szczur 1/2 (now .292) with a BB and 2 R Del Valle gave up 2 HR in the first but has settled down and is at 5IP 4H 3R 2BB 3K 2HR
  4. So the same kinda thing Manny got busted for the first time, right? Close, that was Clomid, a drug used to help women get pregnant . Tamoxifen actually also binds to estrogen receptors like Clomid. Actually Tamoxifen's used for certain types of breast cancer.
  5. Nice ... wouldn't mind seeing him fast-tracked a bit more this year if he shows well in limited outings in Peoria. I wasn't too impressed with what I saw of Matt while he was with Boise. Not good velocity? Control? Mound presence?
  6. I was at that game. He barely had anytime to get warmed up because the starter was getting just shelled. He went from just getting stretched and throwing a couple pitches to having to really ramp it up and go pitch. He's used to the extra time to warm up being a starter. Hopefully this is something to really practice as he moves up the ladder. Also just a note: ball was flying all night. Kyler needs to work on things, but I wasn't discouraged that much by that outing.
  7. I literally just burst out laughing in the middle of a coffee shop. Nicely done. But congrats again to Kyler. I'm excited to see him pitch in the All Star game tomorrow and wish him luck at the higher levels!
  8. I still don't consider that all that great. I guess it depends on which set of scouting reports to believe on Correa. But most years, getting the 5th and 15th best prospects, or however you want to rank those two, is less desirable to me than getting the best one. I'd have rather just had Buxton. I think you make a good point, but I guess it depends on the disparity between the top ranked player and who you pick. If next year plays off like this year I'd be fine with going in the same direction. If it turns out to be a draft with a standout number one ranked player then I agree: you don't want to settle just to pick up an extra prospect. I guess when comparing between Buxton and Correa, they both have high upside. I can totally see just depending an argument for either player.
  9. The approach isn't that much of an issue because of the new organizational philosophy of not swinging at balls out of the zone. I have no problem if he's swinging at balls in the zone and laying off pitcher's pitches. Plus he's going to get preached for several years about good strike zone management.
  10. Expected but depressing. On the bright side Whitenack seems to be coming back strong and we went pitching heavy in this draft. Plus he's pretty young. Frustrating nonetheles.
  11. Yeah, I think this makes a lot of sense. If those picks are very close in talent, make an offer well under slot to each (in your order of preference) and see which one takes it. Then use the balance to go after overslots the rest of the draft until you consume the balance. I completely agree. If we could even pick up someone for about 5-5.5 million it gives us a chance to pick up another first round talent that drops due to sign ability. Right now I'd love a college pitcher like Stanek, but it's a long way off obviously.
  12. It's been mentioned that they've had him working on his fastball and throwing it almost exclusively, IIRC. I believe his manager said if they let him throw his breaking stuff more he would completely be wiping hitters out. It's a little gushy of a response, but there seems to be some truth to it. If he develops really good command and maybe a tick or two increase in velocity he could really take off next year. I hate to see him struggle so much, but I'm more concerned with next year's results/later this season.
  13. I've heard that it could cost the cubs 8-12 million. It was short sighted at least. The only bright spot, Castro was clearly ready offensively.
  14. Well it'd be nice to know just to add everything up, but the keys to figure out will be Almora, round 5-10, and Underwood. Hopefully that leaves us with a decent amount extra and it seems like we've already signed some over slots after 10th round- good sign.
  15. On phone but Joel Sherman on twitter reporting it was down to Cubs and Yankees, but Cubs won. Brett and Goldstein also twitted that. Edit: good timing everyone :)
  16. He said top 5. I can see Correa and Buxton going 1-2 still because of age, but I have a hard time believing Soler would have gotten past 3 in this draft. On pure talent I 100% agree. I don't think the Mariners would have passed on Soler assuming everything financial remained the same. All the more reason we need to get him. This is a top 3 pick for the highest bidder.
  17. I cannot even imagine the damage Rizzo could do against the Iowa pitching staff.
  18. Interesting story concerning the number 67 pick in the draft (ended up becoming Duane Underwood). With the pick Sam Gillikin was apparently called by Cubs FO and asked if he would sign for, presumably, 800,000 slot. I hadn't seen this story anywhere. It was another high upside talent, who was almost drafted twice in the first round (21 and 26). If we called him and he turned it down, hopefully that means Underwood was called and they roughly agreed to something.
  19. In Raisin's post above (Courtesy of BA), Carhart is on the smaller side and a College Senior destined to be, most likely, an organizational player. No terms announced, but probably nothing of consequence. Edit: 35th round
  20. BTW, Baez apparently stole a base after this. He just continues doing whatever the **** he wants In a perfect world this would be his HOF speech some 30 odd years from now.
  21. Speaking of Baez. Here's some great footage of his 3/4 day and play in the field. http://www.cinewsnow.com/sports/Peoria-Chiefs-win-4-0-Baez-goes-3-4-157664565.html Edit: Hawkeye already posted! Oops!
  22. When I saw him, that wasn't the case. He wasn't covering foul line to foul line, and at the MLB level he might be average at best, but from what I've seen and heard I'm not relegating him to 3B for certain. I agree. When I saw him (same day as TT) he showed good range. His plays seemed to be a product of his aggressiveness and good first step. I'm not saying he will stick at SS or that he won't. It all depends on how his body matures and whether he retains the lateral quickness he showed in the game.
  23. They can offer that to him, but bonuses over 100K get subtracted from your slot amount. So teams would lose 2 mil from their pool.
  24. Actually I'll add another one by Baez!! Deep throw from grass! He is having a great game!
