    So we drafted Mookie Betts (Nico) and Benintendi (Roederer). Nice I thought Davis was supposed to be getting the Mookie comp, given his performance on the mental skills testing? Nico can be taller Dustin Pedroia.

    Roederer just took Corey Black yard for his 2nd bomb in the past 2 games. Had already walked and stole another base before that. Gonna have to ask AZPhil what he looks like defensively in CF, because he's been great at the plate so far.

    Kohl Franklin made his debut as well. Good to see him get at least a little game action this year.

    Cubs are gonna have to tinker with the swing if they want more power, IMO. He has 2 career HRs already, but the first one went about 320 feet and would have been caught on the track in a big league park, and everything else has been of the groundball or linedrive variety. That plays well with his plus speed, but it's not going to result in 20 bombs. The walks are really nice to see in the early going, though. He only walked 19 times this year at Stanford in 254 PAs, 15 in 275 in 2017, and 13 in 236 in 2016. He already has 9 in 60 professional PAs. It's been about as good as a pro debut as you could have asked for from Hoerner so far.

    Yeah, I admittedly would only exclude him based on how poorly his game seems to have translated to the AA level through his first 3 starts there. It's probably short-sighted, but in a system filled with pitchers that have to prove it at every level, ones that don't get bumped down considerably for me. Thus far it looks like he had some first AA game jitters and had that go poorly, and then has been very good since. June 23: 3 IP, 9 H, 8 ER, 1/1 K/BB, 2 HR, HBP June 30: 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 7/2 K/BB July 7: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2/2/ K/BB Dang. I didn't realize he had that good of a 2nd game. 1st start was attrocious. 3rd start was meh. But that's better than what I thought. Fair enough. Thompson can rejoin the group of potential BOR starters with mediocre stuff.

    Abbot really hasn't been that much different at MB than he was in SB. Walks are up a bit, but the difference in results is a ridiculous .394 BABIP against. That won't last. He's even induced a lot more grounders upon being promoted. It's all SSS of course, but the K's are still there for him. Edit: Whoops. .391 BABIP against. Still ridiculously high.

    I wonder if Amaya is one of those extremely inconsistent defenders, because I've seen both a report that he's raw behind the plate, as well as a report that he's advanced defensively as a catcher. Both from this year. I haven't been able to catch enough games to form an opinion on my own yet. Maybe it’s both? He’s still raw overall but advanced for age/level?? Certainly possible, I suppose. Also possible that the reports of him being advanced behind the plate were exaggerated due to him throwing out a million potential base stealers.

    Yeah, that's been him all year. Huge disappointment. The game he left early in June, then missed some time, he was hitting 95mph. He wasn't hitting 90mph with the Cubs last year, so there's progress... His development is a process, the Cubs have him working on lots of stuff. Top end speed on his 4-seamer is not one of the things they're concentrating on. That's much more common, and understandable, given that he threw 100+ innings in a full season of college ball and then took a little time off. His velo has never come back to his pre-draft form that was a huge part in him being a 1st rounder. It's a legitimate concern, especially if he can be 92-93 for a short time and then lose several mphs as the innings progress. He's almost 22 years old already. Regarding the rest, do you happen to know someone in the organization or Little himself? Legit question, as that post had a few statements that only somebody with those connections could make.

    It sure sounds like the explosiveness in his stuff hasn't been there this year. I will probably knock him down pretty far. He's not in my top 15, maybe not top 20. If I get a little more time, I will make a list as well.

    Brennen Davis hasn’t played since June 27th. Not good at all for a player who had injury concerns pre-draft.

    This system really needs all the 2018 draftees to get healthy again. Hoerner/Davis/Artis all going down right away is a kick to the nuts of everyone who follows the farm. Maybe we will get a bone thrown our way and Roederer will debut tonight.
