  1. I'm struggling to find much good news in those box scores. I guess Abbott was okay if you ignore the HRs. Definitely a day to forget down on the farm.
  2. Nice. We should be able to get a good bit more video of him now that he's in Iowa.
  3. I think in a normal year this is a fair question to think about. But due to the lost season last year, he was facing a lineup yesterday that was really old for A ball standards. It was almost entirely college hitters that have seen breaking stuff before. Not worried at this point.
  4. The MB website lists Herz as the starter for tonight.
  5. Yeah, making me nervous. Given that he'd been stretched out enough to go 4 innings in his previous start, it made me nervous when he got pulled mid-inning last game at only 3.2. My hope is that his pitch limit was a fairly strict 60, which is what he hit at 3.2 IP. FWIW, Herz is listed as the starter for today's game.
  6. Sweet goodness. That slider was Marmol-esque.
  7. I don't think the defection status should affect anything, right?
  8. Cayne Ueckert officially has my attention. He was listed as one of the big velo gainers this offseason and it's certainly shown up in the results. 10.2 IP over 7 appearances in A+ and AA (after only seeing Rookie ball in 2019) and he has yet to allow a run, while striking out 16 and walking only 2. Only allowed 3 hits as well.
  9. Anyone else open up the MB box scores right now like they are the ark of the covenant?
  10. It's a little much to supposedly buy in and then duck out after a week of games Also also the LEAGUE K rate right now is 31% and pitchers in the league on average are more than half a year older than the average hitter (22 YO v 21.4). Howard's one of the 5 or so youngest players in the league, didn't play any official games last year Not at all. It's, of course, semantics but the truly "elite" prospects don't look overmatched at the plate in A ball, regardless of their age. Maybe they have an off game, but not a week and a half of offensive ineptitude. For some reason I threw caution and common sense out the window this offseason, and just allowed myself to dream that Cubs finally got one of those "elite" guys that would push the envelope and force the organization to promote him early. I know better, but hope springs eternal and all that. This isn't to say that Howard can't become an awesome player, obviously. I still like him a lot. But the scouting reports of "needs to refine his offensive game" seem to be prophetic at this point.
  11. Ed Howard's ugly start offensively looks twice as bad to me, since I admittedly bought into some of the preseason "elite prospect" hype.
  12. In better reliever news Get the velo back up to the high 90's by June and he'll be in TN pretty easily.
  13. He is, but has been passed by multiple arms (Thomspon, Marquez) and has plenty of competition to be the next guy — I had not realized Caissie's hair was so orange. Matt Murton 2.0 confirmed.
  14. With how shitty the big league team is playing, I needed the minors to start in a bad way. Absolutely jacked for what this year has in store for the org. Edit: Forgot to preemptively thank Raisin for doing God's work and making these threads everyday.
  15. Agree with everyone else. Make sure Hill will sign for something reasonable and then take him; TJS or not. That arm talent is something else.
  16. Fair point about Rotowire. But it isn’t the 65 grade on Clarke’s curve that necessarily piqued my interest so much, but rather that they feel his curve is tied for 2nd best in the minors. That’s fun stuff. The 65 rating/second best in the minors was by MLB Pipeline (which IMO is more exciting than minor league comments from Rotowire). Yeah, I knew that. I just didn't format my response very well. And I absolutely agree with you that it is much more exciting. So many guys that have a chance to break out this year. May can't come soon enough.

  18. Nice That's the highest I've seen Clarke's curve graded. Good stuff. Jensen isn't even in their top 19, unless I spaced it. Seems to be the forgotten man in the system.
  19. I would have been pretty jacked to see Law put a guy like Pinango in his top 10 a few years ago. Not so much anyomore. Law doesn't get near the looks at the DSL/Instructs players as he used to. Still, it's better than nothing. I share the relative optimism for Pinango.
  20. Oof. That one's just as rich as the Hernandez/A-Rod or Machado stuff. Walker was a phenomenal hitter.
  21. Care to give a rundown for those of us who haven't had a BA subscription for a year or two?
  22. AZPhil is saying he's talked to some scouts outside of the Padres or Cubs organizations who are also really high on Preciado and have him ranked above Howard. I'm thinking it's more to do with them being waaaaaaay too low on Howard than being enamored with Preciado, but interesting to note nonetheless.
  23. Rafael Morel probably won't be a SS for long. While his brother's limited offensively thanks to his approach, Rafael Morel is more physical, less twitchy, and not as good at defense Yeah, I wouldn't at all surprised to see Preciado moved straight to 3B and Morel to 2B, with Made getting the SS reps.
  24. It will be interesting to see how they divvy up the SS reps in the former AZL. Preciado/Made/Morel are all there. Would also like to see Pinango make the jump to full season ball, but that's probably pushing it.
  25. This a horsefeathering terrible return. The Hoyer era starts not with a bang, but a big wet fart noise.
