  1. I was thinking the same thing. For that reason only, I don't like the walk off HR celebration
  2. How does this haul compare to what the Brewers originally gave up for Greinke? Escobar, Cain, Odorizzi and Jeffress, right? Seems like they gave up a heck of a lot more for Greinke than what they got back from the Angels
  3. Another edition of "I Can't Believe Phil Rodgers Gets Paid to Write This": http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-your-morning-phil-soriano-dempster-williams-20120727,0,2866948.column Yes, that would be Carlos Pena
  4. What does fluid in the triceps mean health-wise? Sucks that Garza won't pitch before deadline, which means he won't be dealt until the offseason if at all. So, now the options will be to trade him as a rental next year or sign him to an extension.
  5. Who says they will miss out on Greinke? According to the Chicago media, they are one of the 4 favorites to land him...what they fail to mention is that there are probably only 4 teams looking to trade for him. Color me shocked if they get him with that garbage of a farm system.
  6. Phil Rogers, why would the Brewers even consider this? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/chi-your-morning-phil-lottery-dempster-floyd-20120718,0,5744745.story
  7. Yeah if we offer to pay 90%+ of Soriano's contract and we don't get any good prospects in return, I don't see the point in trading him. He's been a productive player this year, is known to be a good teammate, has been working hard and playing thru pain this year, and there are no OF prospects beating down the door ready to be called up.
  8. And according to the radar, more rain on the way.
  9. I've heard on more than one occasion that payroll will be around $33 million before arbitration dealings. Z, Dempster and Carlos Pena will all be off the books.
  10. Agreed that the likelihood of finding a major impact guy in the range the picks will be is unlikely but it will allow the teams to have a larger draft pool of money to sign guys, no? So with the extra pick they get they could take a guy with their extra pick who will sign for way under slot (college seniors) and then use the savings to draft overslot elsewhere. Now that would not be fair. How much would you estimate would be saved if they take a college senior?
  11. Actually, the Indians got an outfielder by the name of Joe Carter in that trade
  12. They're taking a cue from their TV broadcaster...stay classy Sox fans
  13. How do I hate the White Sox? Let me count the ways: - Their obnoxious fans who care more about the Cubs losing than their own team - Hawk Harrelson - Kenny Williams' smugness - Their conniving owner who uses Pud Selig as his own personal puppet
  14. No, but it is a slight justification to their terrible payroll decisions and the fact that Sale and Quintana are the new Koufax and Drysdale, which is annoying. They have had a garbage farm system for years, but somehow remain competitive and make the playoffs about as often as far more well run teams, which is also annoying. They've been to the playoffs 4 times in the last 27 years. Twice in the last 11 years. Haven't made the playoffs two years in a row in franchise history. This year is rather annoying because in the offseason they got as close to admitting they were rebuilding than ever before and somehow they are going to make the playoffs despite that. They are getting revival seasons from Dunn, Rios and Peavy. AJ is having the typical free agency year success. They are getting success from rookie pitchers that nobody thought anything about, not named Addison Reed. Yes it is allstill annoying but I do think their pitching staff will eventually fall apart as I don't trust Peavy and Sale to stay healthy and the rest of the league will catch up to their mediocre rookie pitchers.

They've been to the playoffs 4 times in the last 27 years. Twice in the last 11 years. Haven't made the playoffs two years in a row in franchise history. 1 World Series title in 90+ years, yet their fans act like their franchise is accustomed to being world champions.
  16. The Kapman did a "Down on the Farm" segment last Sunday before Cubs pregame on WGN radio...not sure if thats a weekly thing or not, but I would bet he reads this article verbatim if he does that segment again this Sunday. To show that he really doesnt know what's going on "down on the farm", when he discussed Boise, he completely ignored the biggest story there imo, Candelario, and talked only about Hayden Simpson b/c he was a former 1st round draft pick and Shawon Dunston Jr, b/c of his dad and even referred to the "Shawon-O-Meter"
  17. Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan Source: Craney Kenney contacting the Greek priest to bless Rizzo's locker. Stay tuned. I hope Sullivan is joking
  18. I assume we are getting the God-awful right handed hitting lineup tonight with Baker, Mather and Reed getting another of too many starts.
  19. With Niese due to start Wednesday and possibly 3 lefties to start for Houston this weekend, what are the chances Sveum sits Rizzo for the "lefty killer" Baker in any of those 4 games? Sveum really does like to play the lefty-righty matchup.
  20. I like that July 7th is Lucha Libre mask night for the DBacks game
  21. No way! He needs to platoon at 1B vs lefty pitchers
  22. Considering that Rizzo is 4 for his last 18, does it make more sense to bring him up while he's in the middle of another tear at Iowa, assuming it doesnt occur the next two nights before the weekend? With his struggles last year at SD, I would rather bring him up when he's hitting well to maximize his chance of success. It's not like the Cubs need to be in a hurry to bring him up.
  23. Looks like we used up most of our allotment of runs on Monday night...suddenly the White Sox are tough to hit?
  24. When will the Cubs consider Believeau instead of Maine?
