  1. I think they keep Rizzo hitting third and break him and Fowler up with a righty. Something like this (swap Castro/Montero or Montero/Russell if you like) 8 Fowler 9 Soler 3 Rizzo 7 Bryant 6 Castro 2 Montero 5 Russell 1 P 4 Alcantara
  2. I like that idea. Baseball Reference says he has 55 days of service time from last season. 172 is a full season, right? Not sure if him starting at AAA would move back arbitration/avoid super two... I don't think there's a motivation behind that from the team necessarily, but possible effect of him being down if he struggles in AAA.
  3. I really would like three catchers, though I know it's not likely. Welly could play 1B (poorly) once in a while for Rizzo, but more than anything Montero has an injury history and Ross is old and grey. Having Alcantara on the roster provides a backup IF/OF that would make it easier.
  4. But they got their man at coach
  5. Ha true! I met him and Boers last fall at Bannerman's in Bartlett during one of their shows leading up to the Bears-Jets MNF game. He is every bit the jerk in person as he is on the radio. Insulting people in the audience just like he does with the callers. Although maybe the people in the audience are as stupid as his callers? He and Boers were out the door the second the show ended. I demand that Sammy Sofa re-post the picture that led to the "what is...that" comment on Boers. I hate how he sucks up to Bernstein and agrees with everything he says. I only listen to it when I'm sick of Middle-East news, or when major news come out re: Bears/Cubs in hopes of hearing interviews.
  6. Didn't they also buy the ones above the Wrigley Field sign in right center?
  7. Quick, find the rooftops who didn't sell to Ricketts. Hint, look beyond every single sign
  8. I'd love it just for the meatballs that would be up in arms. Does suh take the justin smith role in the 3-4 under? Adding an edge rusher through the draft and that front 7 is dramatically impacted. Still work to do in the secondary but there is suddenly an ability to pressure the qb
  9. I have to know who the characters represent across from Eddie Vedder/no code - my guesses: Phil Hartman Frank Sinatra has to be Sammy Sofa Dufus looking chump has to be Kyle Calvin and Hobbes is naturally TT No idea on the rest...
  10. So the first of the three is lost in the destroyed archives?

  12. Babe Ruth bWAR through age 22 season = 23.3 (fWAR = 15.5) Mike Trout bWAR through age 22 season = 28.2 (fWAR = 29.1)
  13. http://nypost.com/2014/11/11/dodgers-mean-business-about-trading-an-outfielder/ Ethier has three years at $56 million left, Crawford three years at $62.25 million and Kemp five years at $107 million. Dodgers officials have let teams know they are willing to kick in cash or take a problematic contract back to facilitate a trade. For example, the Dodgers are looking for a veteran back-end-of-the-rotation piece, so they could counteract some of the cash by trading Ethier or Crawford to the White Sox for John Danks (owed $28.5 million the next two years) or to the Orioles for Ubaldo Jimenez (owed $37.75 million over the next three years). Edwin Jackson, get the [expletive] outta here
  14. Not sure if anyone has seen this from fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2015-free-agent-predictions/#more-167846 Chicago Cubs Everyone expects them to sign Jon Lester because of the Boston connection, but my guess is that they actually prefer Max Scherzer, a higher strikeout starter with a slightly stronger track record of consistency. Scherzer is the best pitcher on the market, and the Cubs are certainly signaling that they’re going to make some big moves this winter, so I’m putting him in Chicago for 7/$175M. That won’t stop them from also signing Russell Martin for 5/$75M, and then gambling on an upside play in Brett Anderson for 1/$7M. We’ve seen the Cubs be smart and frugal; now I think we’re going to see them throw some money around.
  15. I think it was Levine on the score the other day said that he has knowledge that the Cubs have $65MM to spend after arbitration. I had to look at Cots after this Total Above (10)= $25.5MM Under Contract (8) = $35.5MM Jackson, Castro, Rizzo, Wood, Wada, Soler, Sweeney, Turner Autorenewals (6) = $3MM (roughly) Rondon, Grimm, Alcantara, Baez, Hendricks, Ramirez Before FA = $64MM Assuming an offseason of: Lester $25MM/year McCarthy $15MM FA Veteran Bat - let's say Martin $15MM FA = $55MM Payroll of $120MM total Lester, Arrieta, McCarthy, Wood, Turner, Doubront, Jackson w/Hendricks, Straily, Wada in AAA (they have options) Rondon, Ramirez, Strop, Grimm, Wright, Doubront, Jackson (Schlitter, Rosscup, Vizcaino have options) Martin, Rizzo, Baez, Castro, Bryant, Coghlan, Alcantara, Soler Castillo, Valbuena, someone who can backup 1B, Sweeney, Ruggiano Maybe they get a LF instead of Martin, maybe they can trade Jackson and half his salary to someone (he wouldn't be that terrible on a 2/11 deal would he?). I'm sure they'll pick up a couple Cody Ransom types but hopefully none of them stick. Castillo could backup 1B, but hopefully not much. Martin has never played 1B in the majors or minors.
  16. 1032 W. Waveland Ave., 3609 N. Sheffield Ave. and 3643 N. Sheffield Ave. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/realestate/20120118/CRED03/120119795/cubby-bear-owner-refinances-properties-in-wrigleyville http://wrigleyvillerooftops.com/ This link makes it pretty easy to see which these are. 1032 Waveland is down the left field line and would seemingly look over the new Cubs Charities sign in this "outfield panoramic" rendering http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/restore-wrigley/our-vision/ballpark-renderings/ The 3609 is sort of behind the right field bleachers to where the view must look straight at the left field foul pole - not sure about this one 3643 seems like it would be behind the big right-center field sign. I had wondered if the signs were strategically located knowing that they had the opportunity to buy these locations, but it appears not.
  17. 2 Martin 6 Castro 3 Rizzo 9 Soler 5 Bryant 7 FA/Platoon 4 Baez 8 Alcantara 9 Pitcher Lester Arrieta FA (hopefully better than Peavy) Hendricks Wood/Turner/Straily/etc
  18. I would buy a number of seats for my boss, he's a fan of theirs
  19. Rash or raft? Ration
  20. I used to memorize the roster every season and I can't name one of those guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 98 is Brian Robinson, I think
  21. Someone find the Bender Futurama quote where he orders the restaurants 3 finest wines mixed together
  22. Yes. Oh and the proximity for south bend. I live near South Bend and I will certainly be going to more games. There are a [expletive] load of Cubs fans in the area and I'm sure attendance will increase.
