  1. Sometimes the mods are privy to info the rest of us are not. In this case, I think they made the right call. What does that have to do with this thread? And I'm sure Dusty gets laid more than me too, huh? It must really rankle you Dusty Busters that Dusty Baker is more successful than you'll ever be. He's better paid, more well-liked, probably had more and better gals then you, and when it's all said and done and it's in the history books he will be remembered as a good manager. And no one will remember you. And on top of this, he's ruining your Cubs. And he'll probably finish out his contract - your protests are going to go totally unheeded. la (laugh aloud), it's such a waste of energy! It's kinda sad, when I put it in these real life terms, isn't it? I feel for you. Me, I give Dusty credit when it's due, like with Neifi today, and I'd rather elevate than denigrate anyway, makes me happier. To point out every little flaw doesn't do it for me either. What it comes down to for me, is that when y'all can't even give credit to the guy when a move he makes turns out well, that's just sad. Really dredging up the past eh. Do you have that saved on your computer or something? I stand by the above opinion anyway. Be careful tho IMB, you can't use Dusty Busters anymore....
  2. All these attempts at character assassination... tsk tsk. I'm not starting any rumors - I just posted the facts. There's the Miles info and the McCoy info and they conflict. It'll all come out in the wash....
  3. Sometimes the mods are privy to info the rest of us are not. In this case, I think they made the right call. It's funny, you don't act the same way with Dusty. No doubt he is privvy to info you are not yet you have no problem criticizing him. What does that have to do with this thread? I just find it hypocritical is all. But no worries. What does that have to do with this thread? Physician heal thyself....
  4. What was totally bogus? The first post of this thread. It was posted by a troll. Perhaps he pulled those names from some other message board, but his intent was to yank everybody's chain. Well he did pretty well - they were talking about it on the Reds broadcast. Perhaps he was right. Perhaps the mods made a mistake and jumped the gun. You mods are fair tho from my experiences - if it turns out y'all made a mistake I'm sure you'll rectify it with that poster. It really wouldn't be very fair if y'all didn't in my opinion.

  6. He got scooped by NSBB. Which is precisely why I thought the rumor was bogus. Hal McCoy gave it some validity - doesn't mean he's totally right, but I'll believe him before the person who started this thread. Call me crazy.
  7. We'll see what Miles says in public about the situation, if anything. McCoy has already gone on the record about it. I imagine that's one of the many perks for someone as accomplished as he is - scoops.
  8. Sorry. I didn't know Miles was my father, or Bob Woodward all of a sudden.... I'm not going to go on and on about this. My whole point in relaying what I heard was to help show there is some credence to this rumor. It's not a totally unfounded rumor - to me that was news. I thought it was totally bogus.
  9. ??? Tenuous? Hardly. The head Reds beat writer, who is in the HOF no less (this is no Paul Sullivan) for the biggest paper in Dayton makes a special trip to go on the air, and thus on the record, about a possible trade, or in this case a trade that fell thru, and that's not good enough? I wasn't there Geech, but neither was Bruce Miles. Hal McCoy likely was. I'll go with Hal. I'd go as far to wager that Bruce is as close to knowing what went on as McCoy was. I think Miles is as close to Hendry as any of the beat writers. Why do you think McCoy was "there" (wherever there is) and Miles wasn't? As I said McCoy said someone, I didn't catch who, if you go back in the thread another poster heard the same thing, said a part of the deal was considered to be too steep by one of the parties. On air. I know Miles posts here but McCoy is in the friggin HOF. Bruce Miles would admit he's a stronger source than himself. I'd bet McCoy knows the grandkids of the Reds owners and has been to Marge Schott's vacation home. He's been covering the Reds for 30+ years.... You can't get much more reputable as journalist than that....
  10. hehe, since when did bbq need chicken? Fried breading and sweet baby rays is all i need to live. KFC is good, for some reason im a freek and dont eat meat off a bone so I appreciate their ingenuity in creating multiple boneless entrees, all delectible in their own way. Dude you are a freek. What's up with that? How do you eat ribs? I bet Hal McCoy (where is Rocket Sauce in all this?) is their Steve Stone, but more reputable. I thought this whole thing was totally bogus until I heard them talk about it on the Reds broadcast. Why that's not lending enough credibility to the rumor is beyond me. I bet it comes out in the wash tomorrow, i.e. it gets picked up by the papers, espn. You can't say this stuff on the air and have it be ignored by the major baseball media outlets - this is news!
  11. ??? Tenuous? Hardly. I wasn't there Geech, but neither was Bruce Miles. Hal McCoy likely was. I'll go with Hal.
  12. I'm taking Bruce at his word, I'm not calling him a liar, I just think he may be wrong. Bruce is a fine journalist, but McCoy has been around longer and went on air about it. If I hadn't heard McCoy discuss the trade I wouldn't be stopping my bass practice to make this post. It seems unlikely that he would go on the air about it if there wasn't validity to it - if an offer hadn't been made. Lemme tell ya Nil - don't sleep on KFC's BBQ sandwich. Cheap, filling and a darn good sauce. Is it really chicken? That's up for grabs, but it tastes real good.
  13. And what did he say, exactly? I don't remember which comments were his. I thought McCoy said on the live radio game broadcast (go back a couple pages) that asking Dunn for Mitre, CP and Hill was too steep a demand by the Cubs, but I wasn't sure who was the 'steep' one. Another poster said he heard it and that the Cubs said that was too steep a price for Dunn. The other poster could be right - it never occurred to me the Cubs would say that's too steep a price and the way he phrased 'too steep' was confusing to me to begin with. Apparently I'm not that bright, or I was really into my barbeque chicken sandwich, and that does sound like me - I do love my BBQ. Or maybe for an HOFer he's just not that good a speaker - more of a write and edit guy.
  14. I'm still not even sure there's a trigger to pull on this one. Bruce didn't just say that Hendry wouldn't do Hill straight-up for Dunn, he said that there hadn't even been an offer made. Hal McCoy is an HOFer and has been around 30+ years - I'm more inclined to believe him - he has longer and better contacts. Houston is the only other possible suitor right? Hendry may be playing a waiting game.... Lot of time before the deadline. This thread could balloon to chitchat size by then. Dunn really needs to learn to make friggin contact - sub .250, all those Ks, and his OBP of .380+ is very good, but not great. Just reviewing his stats.... He probably never will tho. I really don't think I can stand to watch Dunn and CP in the same lineup everyday.... We've already led the NL in Ks for the last 4 years.
  15. Another added benefit to us getting Dunn is that then maybe some posters would finally shut up about Bellhorn :P .
  16. Some good acapella on that song. I used to sing that with my brother when I was a kid. Really I'm not gay. But Hendry will be gay (aka lame) if he turned down Hill for Dunn straight up.
  17. I don't care what consequence it brings I have been a fool for lesser things I want you so bad I think you ought to know that I intend to hold you for the longest time Dude I'm not gay, don't try and hold me. J/k. Is that Billy Joel?
  18. Yeah, ZZ, to catch up, Bruce, said Hendry wouldnt do a straight up trade. God thats ridiculous. Oops, I didn't see that. I have my doubts Hendry is THAT dumb. Maybe Bruce didn't hear about CP and Mitre. I mean that's just [expletive]. Huge hole in LF.... Look at this lineup: Hairston Walker DLee Dunn ARam Burnitz Nomar Barrett Look at the L/R balance. Look at only 2 whiff machines, both of whom walk at excellent and good rates. Nomar would have no pressure to perform, which I bet he will, at least better than Neifi. That's a championship lineup.
  19. It was with CP and Mitre. I think Hendry really belives in CP. CP is just such a no walk-takin' no slugger sluggin' whiff machine....CUT THE CORD JIM! IF YOU LOVE SOMETHING SET IT FREE!
  20. I'm not trying to start anything, but Marty Brennamen said it was Hendry who told him that Hill, CP, and Mitre was too steep of a price for Dunn. My wife and I both heard it listening to the game today (She's a Reds fan unfortunately). Hal McCoy, the HOF Writer for the Dayton Daily News, agreed that it was too much to give up for Dunn. It may sound crazy, but this is what transpired. You could hear Marty yell "bye Jim" right before he went into the story on the air. As crazy as this all sounds, I'm 100% positive this is what I heard. McCoy loves Hill, and he has stated this in the past in some of his columns. That's all I got... That sounds so crazy! Was this on the radio, like I heard, or on TV? I said almost postive... I just can't believe swapping CP for Dunn and losing Hill and Mitre (who is most definitely replaceable) is too much for Jim! If Hendry brings in Dunn for CP, Mitre and someone other than Hill he deserves a statue and my god the Reds are [expletive] or cheap. Or what if we hang on to CP? I sure wouldn't mind losing CP, but if we keep him it wouldn't be that bad either. A 2006 OF of Dunn, CP and Pie would be sweet - a lot of Ks tho....
  21. Just to refresh, for Sexson, Shane Nance (who hasn't turned out too well)and PTBNL Noochie Varner the Brewers got: Craig Counsell, second baseman Junior Spivey, catcher Chad Moeller, first baseman Lyle Overbay and left-handers Chris Capuano and Jorge De La Rosa. Capuano is doing very well for them starting and reliver De La Rosa is 24 and shows promise. Overbay was an all-star for them as I recall, Moeller is their backup catcher, Counsell and Spivey are solid regulars for other teams. Granted that trade is well known to be a coup for the Brewers, but saying Nance and De La Rosa cancel each other out (which they don't), that's 5 ML regulars for Sexson and someone named Noochie. Dunn is younger and has a better OBP - he has to be worth a fourth (at least) to the Reds. Like we've said, it's a high price to nab Dunn.
  22. I still think it's as good as 50/50 that the Cubs get Dunn: there's no doubt they've had discussions, those can easily be resumed. I CAN'T BELIEVE (caps used for emphasis) Hendry would say Hill, Mitre and CP was too steep just cuz of Hill. He must be tied pretty tight to CP, as hard as that may be to belive. Man, I would love to trade CP and others and get Dunn in return. Just like Farns, CP has potential but I will be glad if he is gone, as I am with Farns. Bad mojo can be contagious.... I think it's 50/50 those 3 Cub principals remain part of the deal and we add another quality player. We aren't going to get a guy like Dunn for just CP, Mitre and Hill... Dunn wasn't as accomplished as Sexson, but Sexson brought back more than those 3.
  23. Kerry has such awesome stuff - if he just stays around the strike zone and throws strikes he's going to be a perennial all-star.... Pretty frustrating... just when things were starting to consistently gel.
