  1. How did the Nationals manage to steal Brian Goodwin at no. 34? :banghead: Anyone here that can tell me, anyone??
  2. Raisin, What are your thoughts on Andrew Susac?
  3. Andrew Susac, please. Susac has clearly established himself as the best all-round catching prospect in the 2011 college class with his combination of a strong, durable frame, natural athleticism, solid catch-and-throw skills and improving offensive tools. Susac has excellent raw bat speed and the ball explodes off his bat with authority when he squares it up, but he still needs to refine a somewhat unconventional approach to hitting. He has a hip-glide to his front side that occasionally leaves him looking off balance at point of contact. Susac is solidly put-together and has a physical presence on the field with his strength and stature. His only obvious drawback is his lack of speed. Projected Draft Position: Late first round/compensation round. --ALLAN SIMPSON http://www.perfectgame.org/images/profilepics/08nat209.jpg
  4. Boras corp? No thanks. His signability could be an interesting puzzle for scouts to figure out, though, as he is being advised by the Boras Corporation, which has a documented history of steering high-school clients to college before entering professional baseball. In addition, Howard would be eligible to re-enter the draft as a college sophomore, due to his age, if he chooses to honor his scholarship to Arkansas. If those factors aren’t enough for Howard to ponder, his stature as one of the top high-school prospects ever raised and developed in Arkansas may put added pressure on him to play for the extremely-popular state school, and potentially even lead that program to its first-ever College World Series title. Projected Draft Position: Late First Round/Sandwich Round http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=193297
  5. So many pros but I do not like the cons. That said, too talented of a kid to pass on. http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/994/818/10natn23_display_image.jpg?1307420037 With the 9th pick the Cubs selected Javier Baez, a 6'1, 205 lbs shortstop out of Florida high ceiling player who can hit and hit for power. He's a SS now but he's expected to get bigger and possibly move to 3b. One way or the other the Cubs will get his bat in the lineup if he develops as expected. Baseball America said he has "few peers on offense" in this draft. Scouts have called his bat the quickest in the draft -- quicker even than Rendon and Starling. Two players he's been compared to offensively is Hanley Ramirez and Gary Sheffield. The downside is a questionable makeup. He's known to have something of a temper and the Cubs haven't had too much success in that area (see Carlos Zambrano, Milton Bradley) but the Cubs knew this going in and thought it was worth the gamble Read more: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/cubs-den/2011/06/cubs-select-javier-baez-ss-arlington-country-day-hs-fl.html#ixzz1ObJmYsL7
  6. Baseball america says some scouts are turned off by his hot headed, cocky attitude. Ugh.

  8. And yes, we still stinks.
  9. "What's the big deal about this?" Zambrano said before the Cubs opened a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. "I don't understand. I say what I say yesterday. I was frustrated." Quades take: "Those comments were totally out of frustration,’’ Quade said. “… It’s a situation I somewhat understand. You have to choose your words carefully when you're upset.'' Asked about calls in the media for the Cubs to punish Zambrano, Quade said, "People view these things in different ways. Carlos has been really, really good -- and I’m not just talking about his performance (on the field) -- since his sabbatical last year. A little bit of frustration does not change that at all. But people are entitled to their opinions.’’ http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/sports/cubs/cbsports-latest-zambrano-incident-could-blow-over-20110606,0,7898284.story

  11. His rant was an all-time classic. Yes, none better.

  13. http://assets.espn.go.com/sportscenter/images/bobbrenly.jpg "Bob, now that you have been named the next Cubs manager, what are some of the things we can be certain of?" Brenly: "We will never be called a deadass team again. We will move a runner from 2nd to 3rd and get him in. That is my motto. Get em on, get em over and get em in."
  14. Ken Rosenthal says Cubs in trouble: Really, Ken? Forget about signing a free agent such as the Cardinals’ Albert Pujols or Brewers’ Prince Fielder. The Cubs are so far gone, they are much more than one player away. About a month ago, I argued that the team should retain general manager Jim Hendry, who is in the last year of his contract. I can’t see it happening now. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-mess-just-getting-worse-ken-rosenthal-notes-analysis-060611
  15. Well, all I know is that we stinks.
  16. I will change my mind should Hendry and Quade be left in charge of our turnaround. So you dont think that the Cubs should go after the big name free agents next year? Sorry, but when your a big money, big market team, you dont just sit their and wait for the kids to grow up. You go out and sign the big free agents, and make some trades when needed and hopefully are lucky enough to pull some gems from the farm as the Yankees and Red Sox have done. I never said that. I said that Hendry and Quade can't be the guys leading this team. Of course we need to sign some FA's and make a trade or two. I think it goes without saying we need to do that.
  17. I will change my mind should Hendry and Quade be left in charge of our turnaround.
  18. I agree with this but I will reverse my thoughts should Ricketts not make the obvious moves this off season. From the article: Buster Olney says that Cubs owner Tom Ricketts has greatly impressed executives with other teams. Olney also doesn't think the Cubs should go the free-agent route to fix things. They think he's smart; they think he's a natural leader; they think he gets it. And Ricketts is going to need all of those skills in the years ahead, in placating Cubs fans thirsting for a winner. The easiest thing in the world for Ricketts to do would be to go after Albert Pujols or Fielder and perhaps land one of those stars, but Fielder might be one more pricey Band-Aid for an organization already crippled by immovable long-term contracts Read more: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/cubs-insider/2011/06/zambranos-last-rant-olney-ricketts-smart-owner.html#ixzz1OWfqfINp
  19. There is no question the Cubs can contend next year. Throughout the history of Baseball, you will see teams that were picked for 5th/6th place based on the prior seeason, only to see that team either win the division or win the world series. For instance, the 89 Reds won 75 games, finished 5th and went on to win it all next year. Now, if Jim Hendry is still here, well, we are in trouble.
  20. http://www.thecubsbrickyard.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/jim-hendry-christmas.jpg "Here you go, (insert any GM's name here). That PTBNL is fine with me. We believe if we de-value are players enough, we are certain to get robbed by someone".
  21. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Q6TZq05jaX8/TCfFbjyppRI/AAAAAAAAAlg/QDdfMVGlqy8/s400/resized_Zambrano "You still stinks, too, DLee. All of you stinks"
  22. Z for Beckham and Dunn? :-)
  23. And here comes the media. Rosenbloom chimes in below: "The injuries aren't the problem. The injuries exposed the problem: Hendry's farm teams. Good teams have scouted and developed replacements for injured players. And then there is the Cubs. Hendry's call-ups are inadequate. Hendry is inadequate. The Fanboy Owner who continues to employ and support Hendry is inadequate. The Cubs are doomed, like always, but Cubs management can't see it and won't hear of it. Typical. Cubs management wouldn't know the truth if Pujols hit it 50 rows up." So, yeah, it would be so Cub for Zambrano to be forced to apologize. That's what idiots do when confronted with the truth. Just look at Ricketts (rhymes with "No one's buying tickets''). Last week, as his team was choking a home series to the worst team in the league, the Fanboy Owner was asked what was wrong with his team, and he answered, "Nothing. Just a lot of injuries.'' http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/rosenblog/chi-rosen-cubs-20110606,0,2420334.column
