  1. It wasn't my favorite option, but ... with Rodon/Aiken/Kolek off the board, it's basically a mishmash of talent. I was sort of growing towards preferring Pentecost or even Nola, but really, there wasn't 1-2 guys that stood out from what was left. Being at 4 wasn't the best spot this year, in the end. With a lot of arm depth, if Schwarber saves them money and allows them to be aggressive after other guys later, then okay. Let's just wait and see how it plays out. By most accounts, there should be some good arms there in the 2nd to pick from. Edit: As a total side note, find it funny that Mayo was the only one that got it right in the "final" mocks, before putting out a final mock that went with Conforto. I have hopes for this pick, my preference would have been elsewhere. I was probably too pessimistic in my original post. I just would have preferred others (specifically Gordon). It seems we got very unlucky with the Hoffman injury. I am hopeful we can get some good arms later.
  2. I can't say I like this pick ..ugh. Just the thought we picked #4 and ended up with Schwarber sucks.
  3. Gordon seems like he would be the best trade bait a year or two from now. I'd love Gordon. Premium position who is a lock to be a + defender.
  4. Even if he is tipping his pitches.. How is he still getting hit that hard with + stuff?
  5. And just thinking about the recent changes to the hard cap. Why you would make that change for competitive reasons is understandable, but to put price tags on the slots, and not allow trades is silly. You've got to think its only a matter of time before they allow the trading draft picks.
  6. If the three pitchers go 1-2-3, I would love to see us not sign the pick. I doubt the front office would consider that however. Hoyer openly talked about his frustration regarding not being able to trade draft picks. And looking at how this draft is likely to play out - I viewed his comments as frustration regarding where the Cubs were picking. Seems like they would love to trade up or down and would prefer not to be at #4.
  7. Bundy + Harvey for Samardzija + even a guy like Villeneuva is a no brainer for me.
  8. Was not expecting a law of averages discussion in this thread. Impressive.
  9. I have a very hard time seeing Bryant flame out. His bat seems destined to play whether it's at 3B or LF. And I get overly giddy about Baez. I think we are going to be laughing two years from now at how lucky we got.
  10. Worry all you want. Posing that hypothetical after he has a bad game against them in game 1 is just concern trolling because today's game was annoying. Leave it in the game thread. This is the "Anthony Rizzo" thread. I think this is the best place to discuss this. And it isn't just about today - it's his 360 other plate appearances and his sub .200 average.
  11. Today was just the inspiration for his post, but it's not like it isn't a worrisome trend. Thank you for being able to objectively look at this. I am rooting for Rizzo of course.. I'm not here to troll fans of a team I root for.
  12. Seeing as how Rizzo is considered a core piece going forward you don't think it's important to discuss? I like Rizzo, but I am far from convinced like most of this board who were proclaiming trade rape when Cashner got hurt. I bumped this thread, because it is the tracking thread for him.
  13. He's hit for .190 in his career vs lefties. This is not some one game sample size. At what point is it okay to start worrying? He's nearing 400 plate appearances vs lefties. This isn't just a blindless statement after today.
  14. When has Rizzo ever looked good vs lefties? He has 1,200 at bats in the majors. And he has sucked vs lefties. I like Rizzo, but he is completely overrated on this board. .735 OPS.
  15. Will Rizzo ever hit lefties? I'd rather have Cashner than Rizzo. Although, many will be outraged by such a statement.
  16. I'm not bothered by a loss like this. My expectations for this team are rather low. Just hoping for development. Although, I will be a negative Nancy and say I am probably one of tbere very few on this board who would rather have Cashner than Rizzo. The fact that Rizzo looks so helpless vs lefties is depressing and makes me not a believer in his ceiling.
  17. Why in the world would ARZ trade Bradley for Shark? That would be the equivalent to us trading Baez for someone like Doug Fister. They could just flip Bradley for David Price if they were ever even entertaining the idea to trade Bradley.
  18. Shocked at how honest Jack Z is during his interview on MLB tonight. If they land Price they are going to have a very nice rotation.
  19. Isn't Fowler really good? What did the Rockies get for him?
  20. I just can't envision this deal being +EV for the Yankees long term. Maybe I am being too tough on McCann. I just don't see it. Shocked he is getting paid that much.
  21. Huh? From whom? Where are you seeing this? He's probably more in the 55-75 range (depending on years). I was watching MLB Tonight and they said execs were expecting him to get $90-100 over 6 years. Does he really offer anything other than plus power from the left side? He's always banged up it seems to.
  22. McCann is going to get 100M? Wow. That just seems insane.
  23. How much is that Marte's defense? I was surprised to see him as a 5 win player.
  24. I would love the 3rd pick. If we hit another home run with this draft pick we are truly set going forward.
  25. MLB Tonight is profiling Gatewood as the number 1 pick.
