  1. There are 20 teams that are in desperate need of a RFer? Kinda makes me wish Hendry put a little more priority in filling that spot. Jason Lane was #10 in ops and Encanarcion #12. What say you? Unless you want to give up Z or Prior, the Cubs aren't getting a star for rf, and Giles just wasn't happening. Too bad the Cubs didn't have an opening in RF the year Vlad was a free agent. With a little forsight they could have worked some magic. Then again we did have an opening at SS and that didn't seem to get them Tejada. Who was going to take AGonz off the Cubs hands in 2003? The Cubs aren't the Yankees. They rarely sit $6 million players. AGonz was Ed Lynch's signing correct? Yes, the Cubs have some major holes to fill still, but so do the top 2 franchises in baseball, the Yankees and Red Sox. Those rotations aren't going to take them far in the playoffs. Patience.
  2. The bar set for RF is absurd and there's some major reaching going on... The top tier is Vlad, Abreu, Giles, Ichiro and Sheff. Vlad, Ichiro & Sheff are going nowhere. Giles yeah right, and sure the Cubs can get Abreu, if they give up Prior or Z. The second tier's Jenkins, Green, Drew, Dye, Gibbons, Guillen, and I'll throw in a couple of guy who aren't regular rf's, Wilkerson, Bradley & Floyd. If Hendry has no clue about rf, then why have there been rumors of interest in Bradley, Floyd and Wilkerson?? Give it up.

  4. If what you are saying turns out to be true, then Hendry is probably waiting until Dec. 20 to see who gets non-tendered: maybe the Jay Gibbons/Craig Wilson platoon will be cheap. Good points by MPM and Hoops. A lot may be riding on Tejada. If not Tejada, then Floyd. Basically a lot depends on Anaheim & NY, as I think the Cubs are standing in line waiting for the more serious franchises to wheel and deal.
  5. A little quiz... When was Beltran signed last year?? Yes, the Winter meetings are over, but a lot can still happen. Jmo but the potential Manny trade may be holding up some other deals. Once Boston, the Mets or Angels get whatever sorted out other deals will probably go through. Also, there just aren't many good RF's in the game now. The Cubs have the same problem 20 other teams have.
  6. Can't see why SF would deal off Vizquel. It's not like they're Tampa or Florida. They pull in some revenue in SF.
  7. Has the Murton bandwagon ran out of gas already?? Why can't he pull off an .800 ops, if not more??? It's disappointing the Cubs didn't get another deal worked out during the winter meetings, but there's still time for a significant move or two. May have to wait for things to shake out w/ Manny first though, as he may be holding up several dominos.
  8. Maybe the Cubs can get Tejada and Wilkerson in a 3 way deal where Wood is dealt to Texas. :)
  9. He's had a couple good season @ the plate, and is an excellent fielder (something not valued much here), and he steals bases (something not valued much here, as well).
  10. That's not even close to what they supposedly were asking from us. I forget the name of their pitching prospect, but considering Anaheim's superior minor league system, he's probably better than anything the Cubs are offering. Cabrera & Shields are nice pickups too.
  11. Rumor out of Anaheim ~ Cabrera, Shields and minor league pitching prospect for Tejada.
  12. I heard tonight that NY has offered Nomar $6 million to play 1b. They can have him & his wrecked body for that amount.
  13. If the Cubs dealt Ramirez for Tejada, Mueller would look good @ 3b. A lot better than Nomar.
  14. Before getting pissed off about Walker being dealt, let see who he brings back. I'm still hopeful he's part of a package deal that brings in a 4 or 5 hitter. As for why they want to deal him, I highly doubt steroids, I'd guess drinking/staying out all night. Just a guess though. EDIT: They probably think he shoots his mouth off too much, which they may consider "unprofessional." The organization's pretty conservative and all....
  15. Weren't the rumors Bradley for Walker? Putting that into consideration as well, Bradley's a slight improvement, if that. If he was slotted for CF, it would be a different story.
  16. The blame should go in many directions. Hendry's not a dictator. Perhaps the biggest blame goes towards whoever's in charge of drafting hitters. The Cubs inabilitiy to draft good hitters is a killer. As for Hendry and Baker, I give Hendry a B- and Baker a D. The Trib, I give a B. Wendell Kim F.
  17. Obviously, Jacque Jones is only speculation, but would you be pleased with Hendry's offseason if he goes into 2006 with Jones in RF, Pierre in CF, Murton in LF, Cedeno/Perez at SS and Cedeno/Walker at 2nd with the usual suspects (Ramirez, Lee and Barrett) at their respective positions? Nope. The Cubs have the same problem most teams have though cause there aren't many good RF's out there. They need to start producing more hitting talent from within. I totally agree with you but the forsight was lacking 3-5 years ago to solve this problem. Even if we draft an OF now they will not be available for a looong time. Its been lacking longer than that. The Cubs rarely produce hitters. What they need to do now is find a way to get Brad Wilkerson or Cliff Floyd.

  19. I doubt Wood's in Chicago in 2007. They should try to deal him now.
  20. What OF did he specifically miss out on? Drew, Maggs, Beltran and there were a couple others. Say what you want about injuries and what-not but if we had any of these guys we would be a much better team. The difference between Burnitz and the others was 4-6mil so I don't buy the story that he was handcuffed. And if he indeed was and the higherups didn't want them to spend the extra money what does that tell you about this Organization? Do they really want to win if they are not willing to put up 4-6 mil extra? Well, if you're going to disregard facts, what can I say rather than Ordonez would have been an awful signing. Oh yeah, and what facts am I disregarding? There were more options available than Ordonez. I suppose most people are expecting Hendry the Moses of GM's to pull a ARam like trade this offseason. Like I said, a little forsight be it a FA signing or trade last year and we wouldn't be having this problem in RF. Unless of course you think Jacque Jones is a good enough player to put us over the top. This has been discussed here on various occasions. The Trib wasn't willing to expand payroll to pay for Drew, Beltran or Maggs. Even if they had the money, I highly doubt they would have wanted Drew @ 5 years or Beltran @ 7.

  22. Bradley's nothing special in RF considering his lack of durability. Bring back Sosa. ;)
  23. Wilkerson, Floyd, Green, Huff, Bradley
