  1. Those of you defending Hill for his comments can give it a rest now. He knows he screwed up, and that only hastened his departure to AAA. and now hill's owning his most staunch defenders. poetic justice indeed. i applaud hill for admitting error and saying that he was essentially running smack. it's all about context here. what ozzie said in 2004 is irrelevant. he's the manager of the current champs and hill's the guy who got rocked by ozzie's team and hasn't won a game in 14 tries. go ahead and run your mouth rich, but in this case you looked like a fool.
  2. Trading Marshall for Milledge means the Cubs have one reliable arm for next year. Lack of pitching is just as big of problem as lack of hitting. Actually, pitching is probably needed more, since Lee will give the offense a huge boost and has been reliable throughout his career. Counting on Prior or Wood is just misguided.
  3. ozzie managed his team to a world series.
  4. That makes two of us. The only thing is, we can just sign Lee and not even have to trade pie. Or trade Pie and Marshall for Cabrera and still sign Lee. I think Lee will be too expensive for the Trib's blood and they'll turn to a toolsy player like Soriano, who's attitude may drop his price some.
  5. at least the jones signing hasn't backfired like the pierre trade and the rusch & nef resignings. if the cubs could deal off pie & a prospect or two for a big time hitter, i have no problem w/ jones in cf next year.
  6. Curious... Is Marshall & Hill > Billingsly. Florida has enough time to wait around for Hill to win a game, and maybe get going.
  7. wooooooooooooooo! poor defence did the sox in. and the best news is florida's next.
  8. i may have missed it. what's the cubs record when they hit 3 home runs?
  9. told you guys he's heating up. :D
  10. They are 1-14. However, 6 of the 15 games were decided by three runs or less, including 5 of the losses. There's still no doubting that a better offence could easily have helped change the course of some of those games. i'll have to look into it further later on. am getting ready to head out.. i just recall lots of games where the opposition had 4-5 runs early on, and the pen being in early.
  11. biggest play of the year by far.
  12. JOCK JONES!!!!!! WHO???????? JOCK JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONES!
  13. omg sox d is giving the cubs all kinds of chanceS!
  14. lol @ the cubs' fault excuse. when's marshall going to get sabotaged?
  15. how can you miss the daily pierre's a weakling rants?
  16. good grief, dude....who do you want to start? you were rusch's biggest fan last year (obviously you've changed course on that), and everyone knows your feelings about hill (since 99% of your posts are bashing him). i was pointing out the biggest problem. almost everyone's been wrong on what to do. srbin had it right a while ago..tho..
  17. i wish he played 2b or ss or catcher or cf instead. they need better numbers from lf, but give him some time. he's shown flashes of being good. his performance vs. righties is troublesome tho.
  18. that would have been a very bold move, but you're probably right. it would have been a better option than relying on the kids. of course, there could be long-term consequences. prior could still be really good. he probably needs to leave the cubs before that happens tho. the baseball gods won't allow him to be a successful cub. :( How would trading Prior for a slightly above average starter make this team any good? i agree that if prior was traded for tejada and they signed a pitcher (millwood), they'd be well over .500.
  19. get the pen ready. z's going to get booted. can't blame him. hit aj!
  20. Put him in the pen and have him pitch 2 innings when the 5th starters going. The 5th starter would only need to go 4 innings then. Wood in the 5th & 6th. Eyre 7th. Howry 8th. Dempster 9th. Of course, the 5th starter will still find a way to give up 7 runs. :(
  21. how would ozzie get rusch, jwilliams, hill & guzman to win games? his approach isn't that different from baker's.
  22. that would have been a very bold move, but you're probably right. it would have been a better option than relying on the kids. of course, there could be long-term consequences. prior could still be really good. he probably needs to leave the cubs before that happens tho. the baseball gods won't allow him to be a successful cub. :(
  23. can the cussing ban be lifted for 5 minutes?
