  1. I doubt the Yankees have anything in the minors. The Angels have quite a few prospects Mc Pherson,Kendrick, Wood. Wood & McPherson works. Wood sounds like a phenom. Not so sure about McPherson tho. Cubs can move Cedeno to 2b.
  2. if the cubs continue to really struggle, they should shop ramirez. yes, he can be quite productive, but he's also quite injury prone & expensive. I wonder what the Yankees or Angels would be willing to trade for him. The Yankees could dh him and Anaheim could use him @ 3b.
  3. The Yankees put Giles out of the Cubs range because the Cubs organization is infactuated w/ stockpiling $2-9 million free agent. Just recently.. $2m (Walker), $4 million(Howry, Hawkins, Remlinger, Burntiz & Eyre), $5m(alex gonzalez & jacque jones), $7m(maddux),$9m(alou)..
  4. I recall that we were both pretty passionate for our own opinions and we had a view rather heated discussions to show that passion. I had no reason to believe you would forget. :D true, true. :) My big problem was his tendency for injury & poor fielding. I can just imagine him blowing a hamstring chasing a flyball in rf or committing 30 errors @ SS. If the Cubs weren't set @ 1b or 3b, I wouldn't have minded him back. Altho, his D at 3b wasn't that good. Gotta give Nomar credit for having a great year so far, tho. Iirc he has 5 game winning hits the past 2 weeks. The Cubs could sure use that.
  5. is mabry still serviceable @ 3b? heckuva time for fat rammy to get hurt too.
  6. 11 singles, 1 double, 2 walks. cubs got the men on, but didn't get many clutch hits or XBH's. someone beside freddie bynum please hit a home run. how long is fatty ramirez going to only pinch hit and DH?
  7. As for the market for Jones, I'll bet there's a market for a lefthanded hitting RF w/ a .800 ops, and who can cover a good amount of ground in the outfield. 2 & $10 million isn't a huge obstacle.
  8. Would you like a friendly wager? I'll go back and dig up all of my "re-sign Nomar" posts if you'll pay my Premium membership for the next five years for accusing me of hindsight. Come on. I double dog dare you. If I didn't have any bring back Nomar posts, I'll pay your Premium membership for the next 5 years. Oh, and if I win, you are never allowed to accuse people of hindsight ever again. I'm feeling real comfortable about this one. But, it was a double dog dare. Actually, you can ask CubsfaninCA. He and I aren't pals. He'll flat out tell you that I have wanted Nomar back since before the last out was recorded in 2005. I'm sure his memory is powerful enough to remember the long debates we had on this very topic. As far as Burnitz and Jones. They both suck. Cub fans didn't want a choice between the two. They wanted a REAL RFer. But, if we had to choose between the two, I'll take Burnitz at 1 year over Jones at 3. Whose Todd Hundley will we have to take off their hands to move Jacque Jones? It was a bad deal, period. You know what makes it okay to have a Jacque Jones in the line up? There is an answer to this question. When the rest of your line up is a cast of All Stars. BBB, don't put too much confidence in my memory. :) Yes, you were calling for Nomar a long while back. When he regularly plays somewhere besides 1b or 3b, you deserve a tip of the hat.
  9. just what the cubs needed... burnitz for $6 million and a .613 ops.
  10. Nomarists? Nomarxists better? :o
  11. Cubs 6 Nat 4 Ortiz sucks. Jacque Jones hits 2 home runs.
  12. as for nomar, when nomar starts playing 2b, ss,lf or rf regualry, then the nomarists can crow all they want.
  13. could get 2 out of 3 with maddux and z going vs. the sox. unfortunately, hill/rusch are going to get absolutely shelled. please hurry back prior!
  14. If either Wood or Prior are actually healthy for a change, this rotation's real good.
  15. great chance to sweep w/ wood vs. ortiz tomorrow.
  16. His back exploded. *aka, a lower back strain* won't miss a beat w/out him.
  17. The Cubs are dead last in runs scored and it's not even close. It goes like this... CUBS 143 Pittsburgh 159 Washington 170 Sad..so tremendously sad. Even if the Cubs were to get Kerry and Prior back and pitching to their full capabilities, with the offense the way it is, this team still isn't going anywhere. those numbers get a lot better when lee and aram return.
  18. Exactly. They hired a guy that by all accounts was a fantastic candidate for the job and gave him plenty of resources to do the job right. It wasn't until the past couple years that his style proved to be a problem for further improvement of the team. Going forward, I would hope the Tribune would put greater pressure on Andy to win more games. But up until very recently I'm not sure there's much of a legitimate gripe about how they've let Andy do his job. so they brought in MacPhail, yet they take little blame when he's supposedly failing?? quite frankly i don't understand such logic. i guess if they take no blame for MacPhail, then hendry takes no blame for baker. hendry doesn't manage the team, and baker had a really good win percentage when he was hired. perhaps a long standing defence of the trib is starting to fall apart?
  19. Both Hendry and MacPhail said several times afterwards that they had no interest whatsoever in a contract that long, let alone for that much. both good trib men. the bottom line is that the trib hired these guys to "mismanage" $100 million. the buck stops w/ the trib. giving the trib a continual pass is equivalent to blaming everyone except bush when things go wrong. if i got a dollar for every time i've heard it's someone elses fault, not bush.... What part did the Tribune Co. have in Hendry's hiring? And if they had a say in his promotion to GM, I doubt it was significant. But what does that have to do with them not going crazy in the FA market and committing $17 million a year to a single player for 7 years? Hendry did want Beltran, but was not willing to go that far. And that was the right decision. MacPhail has his job cause of the trib. he hired hendry right...
  20. I'd go: 1. Dusty 2. Hendry 3. The guys Henry brought in this year (Pierre esp - quit grounding out to 2nd!) 4. ARam 5. Luck, Bad (Lee) Dusty gets primary blame for 2 reasons - (1) no this isn't a 100-win team with what Hendry assembled, but it isn't a team that should be shut-out 5 times in a 2-week span or lose 9 straight. Dusty's supposed to be a great player's manager, but he hasn't gotten the most out of these guys. His "be aggressive" policy isn't helping either; and (2) I blame Dusty in part for the injuries to Wood & Prior's arms. He worked them to death in '03 and just overuses young pitchers too much for my taste. I guess if we had won the WS that year, I wouldn't complain. But we didn't, so I do. Hendry gets the blame for bringing in Pierre and Jones to play key roles on this team. And also for the likes of Bynum, Mabry, and Neifi being our primary options off the bench. A disgrace for a major-market team really. I don't really blame the Trib b/c they could give Hendry $400m and he'd blow half of it on crap like Jones and Perez and the other half overpaying for decent players (I still think Hendry overpaid for the bullpen guys). Until we see Hendry hot after a difference maker and get outbid by another team b/c of budget, I can't really blame the Trib. Hendry wanted beltran, but that wasn't happening til Sosa's $17 million was cleared & the Trib wouldn't have done 7 and $119m either. Both New York teams, Anaheim and Boston dominate free agency. The Trib has the ability to cause they pull in tons of revenue, but decline to do so. Before we go taking the easy road and blaming the Tribune incorrectly, it should be pointed out that, subtracting Jones, Rusch, Perez and Pierre's ($15 million total) salary and replacing it with players on last years' roster would have freed up more than enough money to get not one, but TWO star players at $15-$17 million per each AND keep the payroll under $100 million. Its not about the money that's spent, its about HOW you spend it. That's good in theory, but can you rattle off a list of free agents the Cubs have spent over $10 mil. per year on?? The only Cub who ever got over $15 million was Sosa and it took a few 60+ homer seasons for that. This organization is in love with the $3-9 million free agent. They never go out and get a Vlad, Colon, Tejada, Manny, Pedro, Mussina, etc....
