where would thome or glaus play on the cubs? prior to 06, lee was one of the most durable guys in the game. you might have something w/ vasquez. who did the sox give up to get him?

Having an owner who really wants to win, noticing Hendry, MacPhail (F A I L), and Dusty are dumb. Would fire them all and get people who knew what they are doing (along with wanting to win). MacPhail doesn't want to win. To sum up. If EVERYBODY in the "higher-ups" wanted to win. Things would change, RIGHT NOW. apparently, all steinbrenner has ever done is provide money. Steinbrenner is a great example of someone who spends a ton of money and has the desire to win but doesn't know how to go about doing it. The desire to win, which everyone working in baseball has, means nothing if you don't have the know-how. The Cubs want to win, they just have no idea how to actually do it. Steinbrenner's the perfect example of an owner who holds his employees accountable. The Trib lets MacPhail run this into the ground.

Jones was brutal for most of April, Pierre has been bad all year, as has Hairston. Hell, ARam has been a liability most of the season, and Rusch has been worthless. The vets deserve probably more of the blame than the rookies, not less. They all suck. I was talking about May. Rusch hasn't been starting in May. ARam has finally got going in May. Jones has been good in May. I didn't look @ the bullpen numbers for May, but I bet the vets, Howry & Eyre, have been good. Dempster's number probably look good up til tonight. :(

baker is of no use any longer. obviously, he can't motivate these guys. if the trib doesn't pull its' head of out its' rear, they're going to lose a huge market share to the white sox. either fire MacPhail or sell the team.

Either fire the manager or have a major personnel shake up. Neither will happen. This sucks.

So you deny that the lack of walks has been the Cubs biggest problem offensively in recent years? It's all just been one giant coincidence? the biggest problem last year was patterson & neifi batting in front of lee too much. patterson should have been in Double A and Neifi should have been batting 8th.

For the record: NYY and Bos are 1 and 2 in walks in the AL, 3 and 5 in runs. LAD and Cin are 1 and 2 in walks and runs in the NL. batting avg. and slugging ranking?

The kids have helped bring them into the toilet. What have I said that's over the top? Admitting you are wrong and then sticking to your guns anyway would just reiterate the trollish behavior. You know they haven't brought the team into the toilet. You knew that before you started the thread. You knew that veterans were just as bad. The vets haven't been as bad, but why bother debating someone who has never been wrong. What got some people so ticked was revisiting last year when some said the cubs should model the braves and bring the kids up. Well, the cubs brought up a bunch of kids and they've mostly stunk this may. The rooks have killed the Cubs. Then you do actually believe that they're the primary cause? So you didn't mean this? first, I said "perhaps." To be more nsbb p.c., i should i went w/ "killed the cubs." These kids have really disappointed me, especially considering all the hype & hollering for them. criticizing them should not be off-limits. second, exclude the injuries & go with the available players, I'd go w/ primary reason considering the 0-7 by Hill & Guz, and Cedeno & Murt's May no show. sure pierre and walker have sucked this month, and i've said so in various other threads, but the combined performance of the 4 kids is a lot more hurtful. i'm not going to put big blame on the bench players/replacements for lee. i never expected much from them to being with.

The kids have been bad, so have the veterans. The kids didn't bring this team into the toilet on their own. Pierre didn't bring this team into the toilet on his own. Surely, we should be relying on these three much more than Cedeno, Murton, and Marshall to pick up the slack of DLee, Wood, and Prior being gone. It shows your bias against the younger players to single out the play of Murton and Cedeno and blame the team's losing on them. gmab. Z's been in the league for several seasons. The Cubs are 0-7 in the games Guzman & Hill pitches and Murton & Cedeno have been brutal. They've killed the team.. Bottom line. Sorry.

Let's look at the vets OPS: Walker .577 Pierre .530 Perez .506 Hairston .531 Mabry .499 Blanco .050 Maddux in May: 0-3, 22.2 IP, 32 hits, .356ba against, and a 7.48 ERA But I can see why you're singleing out the kids! :roll: I mentioned Lee's injury which encompasses neifi, hairston & mabry's pt. pierre has been discussed endlessly & thrown into the faces of those who supported the trade on a daily basis. The bottom line is that the kids have sucked.

If the walk's so potent, Oakland shouldn't be 6th in walks and 23rd in runs. Give me batting average & slugging anyday of the week. The Cubs need to lift their pathetic .243 batting average.

Murton's ops is .538 & Cedeno's at .556. Combine that w/ Lee's injury, and Guzman and Hill's failure, and it's not a surprise the team's 5-16 in May. Neifi and his .506 ops in May, and the kids haven't saved us. I guess the example of Atlanta in 2005 won't be thrown around any longer. The kids have taken the Cubs down the toilet in May.

I realize the walk is sexy, which probably explains why people don't want to trade Murton for Soriano, but I doubt 5 more walks from a 6 hitter would make much of a difference, but keep hating on Jones. Jones has been a heckuva lot better than the beloved rookies, Cedeno and Murton. The guys who have taken off May, with their .556 and .538 ops in May. How the heck do you expect to win when these two along w/ Neifi/Hairston are in the lineup??

Getting Crisp or Bradley would have cost dearly. The guy the Cubs should have got was Soriano. I wish the Soriano for Murton rumor went through.
