  1. ?? murton, cedeno, hill, guzman, marshall and williams have gotten a chance to play.
  2. milton bradley??????? he's only played 21 games this year, and why did the dodgers need nolasco and pinto over ethier? they had lowe, penny, seo, perez and tomko and billingsly is supposed to be great.
  3. so the 06 offseason is over already. got lee locked up. probably get some 38 yr. old vet for $6m per.. :(
  4. i have a lot more faith in lee than wood/prior
  5. cause pierre, jones & neifi don't pitch. rusch has been hammered here pretty good and deservedly so. hill got ripped pretty good too. i don't recall much ripping of williams. it was guzman's first time around, so he was mostly given a pass. kid looks like he has real good stuff. altogether, the focus tends to lean heavily toward blaming the hitting over the pitching, and you bring up some valid points. the pitching has given the cubs little chance to win in many games this may.
  6. i like murton a lot better than cedeno. he's been compared to grace often, and i think that's a good assessment. he won't have quite the batting average of grace, but he'll provide more pop. just like grace he plays a position which is typically filled by power hitters. cubs just need to add another power hitter somewhere else and bat murton 2nd. deal off walker some time soon... cubs have too many 2 hitters already.
  7. Title this dream scenario.
  8. depo would be alright, but no way would the trib let him sign jd drew. la would still have adrian beltre, if the trib owned them. i did like the lowe signing and the penny trade. iirc he signed kent too. can't recall much else he did beyond that.
  9. oops detroit's 26st in walks.. forget that.
  10. should have hired leyland.
  11. there's definitely some disregard for the injuries, but this team shouldn't be 10 under. they've just fallen apart. someone in management has to be held accountable. the guy who's in charge of motivating and game strategy (dusty) is most to blame. he's been awful. i'm sure there's a long list of poor moves baker has made just recently.
  12. Right towards the end, I think. considering how bad they were in 2002 and how they overachieved in 2003, 2004 wasn't horrible. it was disappointing to see them choke down the stretch, but calling the season horrible is hyperbole. now last year was horrible. this year's on the verge of being a disaster. hendry was wrong to count on guys like prior, rusch, pierre and neifi cedeno.
  13. when did 2004 become horrible?
  14. Might as well throw Pierre in there w/ Hill for Wilson. Pittsburgh gets a potential starter and they can deal off Pierre @ the deadline. Maybe he can get going w/ no pressure on him. Put Wilson in rf and Jones in cf. Basically, the Cubs would gain 300 points in ops replacing pierre w/ wilson.
  15. aram & prior have lots of value. there are many teams that will roll the dice on prior. just look for a team w/ a really deep farm system. hey anaheim.... prior & wood have killed the cubs because the organization has waited around so long for both to be healthy instead of filling their spots. tough spot to be in considering their upside. the first one who needs to go is pierre. gotta send a message. getting rid of rusch & nef would be meaningless. neither was expected by the organization to be a major contributor. pierre otoh was expected to provide a huge spark. deal pierre & hill to pittsburgh for craig wilson. put jones in cf. pay half of pierre's salary. whatever. get him out.
  16. baker's a lot more at fault. the players have taken on his "whoa is us" attitude. baker's supposed to be the motivator.
  17. hey tim, they got wood back and have taken a further nosedive. i didn't expect them to be over .500, w/ the injuries, but getting swept by florida's ridiculous.
  18. if the cubs continue to rely on their 5 cornerstone players (lee, aram, prior, wood and z) they're doomed. gotta deal a few of those guys for multiple players.
  19. baker has them looking for every excuse. no luck, injuries, billy goats... not dealing off prior for tejada looks like hendry's biggest error...
  20. my concern is that he'll keep going w/ the guys who have let the cubs down the past 3 years. one of prior/wood has to go.. trade one of them and get a power hitting outfielder. any cf they bring in will find a way to suck.
  21. Well, i have to go by impact so... 1. Not trading Prior for Tejada. 2. Not making the Soriano for Murton trade rumor happen. Those 16 homers would REALLY help. 3. Counting on Rusch/Williams/Hill/Guzman. Should have signed or traded for a solid starter.
  22. should have traded Patterson for Finley. :(
  23. First gotta trade him to the AL, so he doesn't come back and haunt the Cubs. Second his trade value could get lower. As always, the Angels quickly come to mind. Their farm system is loaded and Prior's a local guy. Brandon Wood sounds real good.
  24. if hendry is fired, MacPhail is admitting a mistake. same goes for hendry firing baker. same goes for the trib firing MacPhail. unfortunately, it looks like no heads will roll. rather incompetence (baker) will be rewarded. i wouldn't be surprised if the white sox become the darlings of the city. i thought last year was a fluke, but looks like they could take it this year too.
  25. This seems pretty plausible, so here goes.... Say Kerry Wood pitches the remainder of the season and finishes w/ a 4.30 ERA. What type of deal should he be offered?? A Nomar 1-yr. deal w/ incentives would be ideal, but with many teams pitching starved I can't see Wood taking this. Should the Cubs give him a 3 year deal???
