  1. Oh please let it be the Outback.
  2. Coach Cut is doing a heluva job there. Nobody could really ask more of him at this point. If Duke beats UNC and GT takes care of Wake, it sets up what is effectively the ACC Coastal championship game. No one would have predicted Duke having a chance at anything in football ever.. Agreed. Maybe that Cutcliffe guy can coach? As a Tennessee fan, I still have to wonder what the hell Ole Miss was thinking when they fired this guy and hired YawYawYaw.
  3. Personally I don't think Luc leaves Florida BUT if Tennesseecould pull Nu'keese out of the state then it is definately a possiblity. IMO, that would be a serious blow to UM because in the last two years he would have lost Trent Richardson, Orson Charles, Nu'keese, maybe Jeff Luc all to conference rivals and all could have come on and help Florida Post-Tebow. Florida won't be short for talent, but these guys could have made impacts for the Gators in 2010. Charles for Hernandez, Richardson for Tebow (physical running aspect), Nu'Keese for Murphy, and Luc for Spikes. So if you can get Luc, that would equal to Bama getting Alfy Hill from North Carolina. And I mean that as a pleasant surprise pickup. But one other thing....you guys are going to land a Bama decommit (that I personally hated to lose) in Jawuan James. All good players, no doubt, but the only guy that I know that had an offer at any point from Bama was Dunkley and then I don't how strong that offer was. I mean Bama landed Malone, Carswell, and White, not to mention we also will be landing Keenan Allen after the LSU game. Would we have taken him...yes, but at this point there is no room for him, and if he lands with you guys (which I expect, BTW) you will be getting yourself a heckuva player. Now only if you get yourself a bonafid QB for next yr... :D . As for Dyer, if you ask the Auburn knuckleheads they will tell you that he is a silent commit to then and has been for months now. Personally Dyer has no intentions of signing with Auburn only because AU OL will get him killed. Which is why I am hoping you guys land him and not Arkansas or Auburn. Will you listen to me on this one? Luc WILL sign with UT. James is a Dawg, I'm afraid. And I'm telling you... no matter what Dyer says tomorrow, he will be a Vol. Several of UT's current commits will be going elsewhere. Broussard will end up at La Tech, for example.

  6. dew... Watch for Janzen Jackson to be suspended for the Memphis game due to breaking a team rule. You heard it here first.
  7. Coach Cut is doing a heluva job there.
  8. We have Kirby Smart, Sal Sunseri and James Willis all working with the LBers. And if it is one of Bama's coaches that will replace Andrews, it won't happen till the offseason (since my guess is Andrews will finish out the season and then retire) and my money is on Kirby Smart being the guy, because he has "it" as a coach. And I must admit, I rather Smart go to FSU then GA anyday of the week. Sunseri is the name I've heard. Don't know if there is anything to it. Also heard that this weekend could be enormous in terms of recruiting for Tennessee. I've heard to watch for two different sets of tandem recruits: Mosely and Dyer out of Arkansas and Lemonier and Calvin Smith from Florida. I've also heard that you can take this to the bank: Jeff Luc is a silent, and Tennessee is the team to beat for Matt Elam, Chris Dunkley, and Christian Jones. Also hearing Kelsey Quarles will be a Vol regardless of his current commitment to SoCar. NOt sure if this will all materialize, but I'm hearing this stuff from very reliable folks. I hope it's true because TN has some work to do to catch Florida, LSU, and Bama in talent level.
  9. Did not see it posted anywhere, but ESPN reported today that Mickey Andrews is out as Defensive Coordinator at Florida State. Early rumblings I have heard have the current LB coach from Bama (whose name escapes me right now) taking over. I can see an odd sequence of events that leads to Rodney Garner (current DL coach at UGA) moving to Bama to coach LB. It'll happen when Willie Martinez is fired at UGA and Garner is not promoted to DC. First part is true. Second is pure speculation.
  10. Nuke did, in fact, go MIA on Sunday. However, Kiffin knows exactly where he is, and I'm hearing that this has been put to bed already. Yes, he has been homesick- almost from the beginning- but that is not the issue here, as I understand it. This is purely a PT issue, a Nuke thinks he should be getting more than he is. The irony in this is that he chose to wait until Memphis week- his best shot at playing significant snaps- to pull this. I'm getting that Nuke is not going anywhere, but that he is indeed homesick (though being homesick for Pahokee is almost unfathomable to me) and wants to be playing more. He may end up transferring elsewhere, but with commitments from Thompkins and *allegedly* Dunkley, it won't hurt quite as much as you might think. I hope he does not, but if he's going to be a me-first kind of guy (a la Brandon Warren), then so long.
  11. That's just it... I don't think the OL will be much of a question. Look at what the coaching staff has done with 2 walkons and a converted TE. Adding John Cullen and possibly Morgan Moses to this line would be significant. We lead for Cullen and Moses has us up there, and if UVA's staff is canned, UT would be his leader. Plus, Cody Pope will likely be ready to finally contribute next season, and the other OL we're going to add in this recruiting class will give us depth, if not experience. It won't be the strength of the team, but it will be sufficient. If nothing else, this year should prove that. WR will be more than good. Moore, Jones, Nuke, Teague, and Thompkins will be an excellent WR corps. Add Milton, Ambles, and Dunkley to that, and this WR crew will be among the best in the conference. At TE, the recent addition of Ken Adams bolsters the depth at the position, and I'm honestly not at all concerned about it. Stephens will certainly have weapons, and I'm not terribly concerned that this staff cannot have him ready to play in this league. I mean, they have Crompton playing as well as any QB in the conference not named Mallett. On D, next year's unit has a chance to be special. It has been years since UT has had this much talent at DE- Walker, Martin, Williams, and Bohannon will be stellar. At DT, we'll be okay with Hughes and Walls, and I'd expect the Juco DT (forgetting his name off the top of my head) to be ready to roll. We need one more DT to step up... or we need Williams to move inside and Fowlkes to step up on the edge. Our LB's will be a major strength, and with the probable addition of Jeff Luc to this class, LB will be scary good. The DB's will be best in the SEC with or without Berry. With him, it will be one of the top 5 defensive backfields in the country. Adding Menzie to this class will give us (at worst) Menzie and Rogan at CB, and Jackson and Myles Jr at Safety. Put Berry in there, and we'll lead the league ( and possibly the country) in Pass D. I just think it's going to be a much better season than so many of us would have thought 2 months ago. I think we beat one- if not TWO of those teams. They will be upsets, but I think we get at least one of them. Well, those words came directly from Berry's mouth on Saturday night. That was one of the 3 "sources" I mentioned. Another source had allegedly spoken with James Berry to get the education angle. And, again, one of the other sources correctly broke the following stories: Tyler Smith's transfer to UT, Scotty Hopson signing with UT, Nukeese switching to UT, Tyler Smith staying at UT, and both Kiffins and Orgeron. I'm just saying, this has been about as reliable a source as I have ever seen. The source could be wrong, because a lot can change in 3 months, but as of today, I absolutely expect Berry to return... against all odds and better judgement. Sorry to hijack the draft thread. Berry is a 1st rounder, and I think both Dan Williams and Montario Hardesty are 3rd rounders. Crompton and McCoy both have an outside shot at being drafted, but I'd suspect that both get undrafted free agent deals.
  12. Maybe I'm horribly wrong here, but I think Cotton Bowl usually goes to the 2nd team in the West. The Capital One Bowl gets the 2nd pick (3rd in this case, since the SEC will almost certainly get two teams in the BCS), and must take the team with the best record, unless the next best team is within one overall win, which I don't see being the case. The Cotton gets the next highest Western division team, while the Outback gets the next highest Eastern team. Cap One will have to take LSU and the Cotton would really like a UT/Oklahoma matchup, as opposed to taking an Auburn team with a worse record. Of course, the Outback has to okay that selection, since the Eastern teams are typically theirs. Not sure I see that happening since Tennessee will have beaten the remaining 4 and Auburn is just not very attractive. Seeing as how Tennessee has made almost no effort in recruiting Texas and tons of effort in Florida, I'd rather play in either Tampa or Orlando, though I'd settle for Birmingham after last season.
  13. If that's the case, Berry would probably become the most popular player in Tennessee since Peyton Manning. I still don't expect him to at all, but it would be incredible if he did. Any idea why he might stay? We probably won't be much better next year (unless Lane can get Stephens/Bray to play like second half Crompton next year) even with Berry. I still see 2011 as the most likely time that we start considering SEC championship ideas. I wouldn't be so sure of that. On offense, QB will most certainly be a big question, but I have no doubt that this coaching staff can have Nick Stephens ready to play. We'll still be deep and talented (if a bit green) at RB, deep at FB, solid at TE, very good at WR, and even have some solid experience returning along the OL. On D, we have potentially 9 starters returning, and will be much deeper at LB than we are this year. Palardy will improve our kicking game, as well. Add to that a stellar recruiting class, including several JuCo's, and I think this team has 9-10 win potential in 2010. In only see 3 games (UF, Bama, and Oregon) where we will most certainly be underdogs. I think Berry is considering staying for three reasons: 1. HIs dad got a job, and the financial situation is not as dire. 2. His parents really, really want him to finish his degree (want him to be able to be a dentist if his NFL career does not pan out.) and 3. Chavis/Slade DB's have not adjusted well to the NFL, and the thought is that Berry would like another year with Monte to be better prepared to play right away at the next level. Also, he's just having alot of fun right now. Much more than he'd have in Oakland.
  14. With 4 games remaining, Tennessee must win their two easily winnable games, starting this weekend. Don't look ahead to Ole Miss and slip up against Memphis. Winning out would likely mean Cotton Bowl or Capital One Bowl.
  15. I'm not saying "take it to the bank", but I'm hearing- from 3 different directions- that Berry is staying for his senior year at Tennessee. Two of the sources are the same ones that assured me of black jerseys back in September. These two sources have been right about Tyler Smith staying, specific coaches being hired, and a couple of smaller items. This could mean that Tennessee returns 10 starters on D next season.
  16. Why, you want to watch us beat down your conference again? :D First of all, who is this "us" you referred to? Do you play for Iowa? If not, you can drop the "us". Second of all, Iowa did not beat the SEC in their Bowl Game last season. They did not play the SEC. They beat South Carolina.
  17. Not as ridiculous as Tennessee will look tonight in orange pants and black jerseys.
  18. Based on what I've seen this season, I don't think it will matter which BCS game Iowa plays in (Rose or Championship), they will get murked.
  19. John Wall is very, very good (if he is allowed to play). It's not just a matter of who returns but who else you add. I agree and that is why they should go from unranked and barely a .500 team to ranked in the 15-20 range. To me the top 5 is reserved for the teams who played close or at that level the year before and return a lot. The top 5 is not for a team that has been mediocre for years now and get a great recruit who no one really knows how good he will be because he has yet to play. They are top 5 simply because they have been talked about all off-season. That's just it... they didn't add A great recruit. They added 5 players, the lowest of which was ranked #40 by Rivals. They added the #1, #2, #22, #23, and #40 players in America. That's a Top 10 class- EVER. In an era where one and done types lead teams to FInal Fours, you have to think that a team who adds two to a solid existing roster is going to be vastly improved.
  20. Kentucky brought in a couple of one-and-done type prospects to add to Patrick Patterson and crew. I don't think they should be Top 5, but Top 10-15 is absolutely where they belong.
  21. Tennessee comes in at #10 in the AP, #11 in the coaches poll.
  22. Some people alway vote for the last years champion until the season starts. Well only one guy did that, it still doesn't quite explain why they're ranked 4th. They are still going to be very good. They return Ed Davis and The other big, who's name is eluding me, and have a really good recruiting class. Plus everyone is saying that college bball is down this year. edit: Dion Thompson. Don't forget Tyler Zeller.
  23. Black jerseys rarely don't at least look cool, but Tennessee's orange tops are among the best in college football and it sucks that they'd pass on wearing them. I think that it's purely a recruiting tool. Again, I'm not saying it's going to happen, but there are several who feel that recruits would go crazy for it if it does. I'd prefer the orange jersey as well. I wish it were the only jersey UT ever wore.
  24. I've heard rumors that refuse to go away, and I hope they're not true, but Tennessee might come out in black jerseys for the South Carolina game on Halloween. I'd prefer that we leave that gimmick to schools like Georgia, who actually have black as a school "color".
