  1. Sorry I do think it is an interesting debate. Big Ten referees are the worst. I don't think it's a call a B1G official makes on the road in conference play. I think you would be extremely pissed if it were called on Paul at Assembly. It was an end of game after free throw struggle in the trenches. Anything short of a punch or elbow probably isn't going to get called. He tackled our guy. I'd only be pissed because I have been conditioned to think that's ok in the big ten. I'm telling you in rec leagues that gets called. That's how fights happen. Haha, fight worthy? It was less physical than when Paul obliterated Lawson that led to the free throws.

  3. That's not really his explanation, that's the actual rule from the rule book. Would it have been called the same if it was Paul? I don't know. I don't think you can say 100% it wouldn't have been. It was called correctly though, according to the rule, and he was legal calling the timeout even though he was leaning out of bounds because he was still on the ground. We could argue about the foul till we're blue in the face and never agree on that part of it.
  4. Agree on 1, 2, and 3. I don't remember 4. As for 5, I'm going to ignore the foul portion and refer you to Ken Pomeroy who quoted a whole bunch of rules on his twitter feed last night stating that what Byrd did was legal in regard to sliding/falling out of bounds/time out. http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/WBKB12.pdf
  5. http://www.rpiratings.com/homecourtrec.php Only 4 B1G teams in the Top 25 for home court winning percentage. I'm not defending B1G officiating, I'm just saying that's the way Men's D1 College Basketball works.
  6. What is he supposed to say Smack? After his first game in the big ten go off about how horrible the officiating is? He's not some boob who spent two decades as an assistant coach. He's right about the dribble penetration though it's been killing us for weeks now. He didn't have to call out Byrd by name and praise him. Plus, gflore threw out the Weber quote like he's an idiot for praising Byrd. I was just pointing out your current coach says the same thing. Byrd got a lot of praise from the media last night.
  7. I certainly wouldn't disagree with that being Purdue's perception. Painter runs a defense first program that isn't flashy offensively. Especially without Moore, Johnson and Hummel. I wouldn't be watching them like I do if I wasn't a big fan. I think we've got some guys on the way that will get us back to a more offense oriented team, but not right now. Hammons is the only player on the roster right now that is likely to play in the NBA. The Illinois people will laugh at me but Jay Simpson might have that upside too. Painter said Simpson is the most talented player on the roster and he's had Hummel, Johnson, and Landry so he knows a talented forward.
  8. “We never got (Terone) Johnson under control,” UI coach John Groce said, “and Byrd made the tough plays at the end. They were the best two players on the floor."
  9. How many jump shots did he take? I only remember him driving to the rim two times, once he had an easy layup and once he got called for a charge. 7 of his 10 shots were from 3. edit: plus the one free throw he did shoot was a terrible foul call. he kicked his leg out at Terone tryign to draw contact and didn't even connect but they called a foul on Terone. There were several times he got to the lane and was crushed. There were several times Terone was crushed with no call too.

  11. That's not what I said. 'can't say anything' is not equal to trolling and taking pot shots for no reason. What is the point of trolling when your team is [expletive]? 'your team sucks!' yeah... well your team sucks too, and actually it's one of the least succesful major conference programs ever in the two revenue sports... Now if he wants to debate the impact Hummel's knee injury had on Purdue's tournament success I'm all ears. the fun of it is based on the fact that i don't really give a [expletive] that iowa state sucks at sports, while your entire identity as a human being is seemingly tied to how good your favorite stupid sports team is. you can say iowa state sucks and i would agree. i say jimmy claussen sucks and andy cries. i can say purdue is garbage and you post for seven hours about robbie hummel's knee injury. that's the difference between me and you/andy. It's a college basketball thread on a sports message board. If the people around here didn't care about sports they wouldn't be posting here. If they didn't care (more specifically) about college basketball they wouldn't be posting in this specific thread (or reading it). It's really strange that you go to an extremely specific thread and mock people for discussing the topic the thread was designed to discuss. Why? What's the point? Plus, hell, you've got almost 20K posts in the same time period I've got less than 6k posts. If you think my identity is tied up in sports, what do you have to say for yourself?

  13. Nobody's saying Purdue was cheated out of the Final Four. However, fault them for not making the Final Four and I think it's only fair to point out that they had a pretty good excuse why they didn't. abuck is just a troll. He takes shots at everyone elses teams despite being a suporter of Iowa State. They have almost zero historical success in basketball or football.
  14. The first injury was too late in the season, they just couldn't adjust to the different roles (see Scarey's post). Plus they dropped from a sure #1 seed to a #4 seed in a week period and lost to eventual Champion Duke who they had to play in the Sweet 16. In 2011 they ran into VCU who was one of the hottest NCAA tournament teams EVER (beat Purdue, Georgetown, Kansas, Florida St., and USC - every major BB conference?). Had Hummel been around that year they wouldn't have been a #3 seed and wouldn't have hit VCU, at least not so early.
  15. Because the big ten is ok with a physical style of play that doesn't fly outside of the conference. A one point last night with about 10 to go Tyler griffey drove, pump faked, got DJ Byrd to jump and land on him. No call was made so we reset the offense. In no way can that happen, thats not good aggressive defense. Thats a mugging. How can you not think there isn't a little something to this when you guys and Wisconsin, the two best defensive big ten teams every year, never do as well as you should once the tournament starts? I mean you guys had a great team for three straight years and never really sniffed a final four. Robbie Hummel blew out his knee two years in a row. The 'Baby Boiler's only played in two NCAA Tournaments together, as Freshmen (second round) and Sophomores (Sweet 16). Their third year they won the B1G and were ranked #3 in the nation when Hummel blew his knee out with three games left in the regular season. If we had Moore, Johnson, and Hummel all healthy as Juniors/Seniors in the tournament... Man, that's a really depressing thing to think about.
  16. purdue's biggest achievement was not giving up triple digits to okie st. Insight.com
  17. Iowa State has won 3 bowl games in their history with their all-time greatest achievement being a win in the Insight.com bowl.
  18. Aaron Craft is in the discussion too.
  19. When did I say Illinois has sucked recently? You're 13-2 and ranked #11 in the nation. Good grief. The B1G is known by everyone as the most physical conference in the country. They have been as long as I can remember.
  20. Well yeah, but Purdue was fouling and not getting called. There weren't bad calls against Illinois for the most part, just a lack of fouls against Purdue that should have been called. Now, that doesn't excuse a lot of the dumb things Illinois did, like failing to go to the hole when they couldn't hit a jumper to save their lives. You aren't gonna convince him. He's grown up thinking that's how basketballis supposed to be played. There's a reason purdue doesn't usually do very well in the tournament. That gets called for fouls outside of the big ten. I grew up in Indiana, like that coach of yours.
  21. Purdue had 2 less fouls than Illinois at the 2:30 mark and then Illinois fouled the last 4 times on purpose. Even with those last free throws we only had a 5 free throw attempt advantage. 16 missed three pointers crippled Illinois.
  22. I'm not sure. I haven't seen him out lately. I know he stopped when he got in trouble, but the dude was fun at the bars. He can't drink because he's on probation from the Barlow incident.
  23. Egwu is a beast in the paint
  24. That's what pros do
  25. Terrible foul by Hammons
