  1. I always thought Andre Dawson looked like he was ready to kill someone.
  2. Gotta love the BJ's!!!!
  3. Though he sometimes joked he was born on an oleo run to Illinois, Uecker was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up watching the minor-league Milwaukee Brewers at Borchert Field. He signed a professional contract with his hometown Milwaukee Braves in 1956 and made his major league debut as a catcher with the club in 1962.
  4. Sutton also said that Aram was an embarrassment.
  5. See for yourself! http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/08/01/SPQERANH81.DTL Hehe. He'll get over it. BTW, your sig pics are awesome. Why thank you! Those were the best Cuban/Cub pics I could find.

  7. Last week in Vegas, the sports book on the Cubs winning the WS was 5:1
  8. I wonder if Steve Stone and his investment group are still interested in buying a club. Cuban, mixed with Stone's group could be more palatable to the MLB cronies......? Stoney is basically a Chicago guy [and a Cub guy]... which is what Bud is wanting... just a thought.
  9. Grace played several years in the 3 spot, ahead of Sosa. Nothing wrong having a contact hitting, doubles machine hitting ahead of a power hitter. Leave Lee where he is! Caveat: Not comparing Lee to Grace by any means, just an analogy for contact ahead of power.
  10. and yet still loses out to the almighty Barroid to start the ASG. :(
  11. That was from the episode where Peter had to go to sexual harassment class and became "feminized". He called up Quagmire and said "so, whatcha doin?". :?: i think i got that from a family guy episode...it is what chicks do...call up with nothing to talk about...only to ask you what you are doing...just another thing that bothers me i actually had a roommate/friend who would do that...i had quit my job, so i was at the house all day, and this kid would call me about 5 friggin times during the day just to ask what i was doing and what have you...he didn't have anything to say...finally i just said to him..."derek, you remember that family guy episode (insert explanation here)...well, you are reminding me of peter!" suffice it to say that he was very pissed off, but he never did it again
  12. Mazzone and Duncan couldn't straighten out Marquis. TOUCHE!
  13. Thanks! I use STOIK video converter to change from .wmv to .avi, VirtualDub to extract the audio/crop/resize, and Ulead GIF animator to convert to .gif format.
  14. I still remember that like it was yesterday... "Me and the Ump are gonna have words" LMAO! And then security escorting him out of the booth during the bottom of the 7th. Good times!
  15. Wasn't that the game where Steve McMichael got ejected from the park for razzing home plate umpire Angel Hernandez during the 7th inning stretch??
  16. heh... a 2-hopper laser beam!!
  17. Willie Randolph, John McLaren, Ken Macha (who I am putting here for completionist's sake, as the Oakland management didn't care for him). Baker was looked at as a good option because the Giants had been to the World Series that year. It doesn't mean there weren't other options. That's my point, he took SF to the series and Cubs management liked him for that, especially considering the failed term of Don Baylor/Bruce Kimm. Believe me... I AM NOT a Dusty supporter!!!
  18. also... who else was available at the end of '02 aside from Baker? Nobody worth a cr*p, if I recall correctly...
  19. In fact it is that simple. If you throw in all the BS excuses people like to give Hendry, you complicate the story. The fact is Hendry has done a poor job. I don't mean to be flip, but you just restated your opinion without providing any reasons why it should hold up under logical scrutiny. I can make an argument why it is fair and accurate to take into account the state of the team at the time the GM takes over and why it is hard to fault a GM for catastrophic injuries. Can you make an argument for why it is more fair and accurate to judge a GM on one statistic? If you need something to backup the claim that results are what matters in sports then you just don't understand sports. There's nothing else to say. Hendry has been in charge for many years. And before he was in charge of the whole thing he was in charge of the minors. He had as much money and resources to work with as any GM could possibly expect, and he failed. Those people who are willing to accept mediocrity as a goal are satisfied with somebody like Hendry in charge. Those people who want to see a championship are not. It's quite simple. No need to muck it up with the nonsense. There is no logical scrutiny that can tear down the argument that Hendry has done a poor job. There is only BS and lies. Sure there is. Let's say you spent all evening cooking a really good dinner for your friends. And just before they arrived, I showed up and smashed up the plates and poured tons and tons of cayenne pepper on everything. When your friends arrive, all they see is a messy table and terrible tasting food that is so spicy they choke on it. Do you deserve any credit for making a really good meal? BS and lies? Simple and obvious logic says otherwise. It occurs to me that your mind is painfully closed and made up on this issue. I'm done talking to you about it. What took you so long??? :)
  20. And why is that? It's still very early for all three. I'm basing my claim off the trend of other pitchers that came to the US from Japan. They get all hyped up about how dominant they were/are, and once their pitching style is figured out, they become mediocre at best. I'm not so impressed with Dice K, and I don't believe his opponents are either. He's hardly worth the amount of $$$ spent on him, especially for the rights just to talk to him... ridiculous!
  21. and here it is....
  22. He'll be just another Japanese "flash in the pan", like all the other transplanted pitchers before him. Just watch....
  23. And like 7 home runs. I don't think this would be a very good exchange. Let's start hitting it over the fence instead of off it. As long as his doubles continue scoring runs, I could care less about his HR totals.
