  1. Not let it out that team doctors cleared him to play. Defend his decision more aggressively. Say its partially a team decision.
  2. Interesting he used the phrase 'medically cleared'.
  3. I just wish they had a component to "medically clearing" a player that required the player to say they were ready to play in a game. I agree rose deserves everything he is getting but I wish the Bulls had done a better job of protecting him from it. That’s part of the job in my opinion. Mitigate these things. Rose thinks he is in the right. I don’t want Rose sour on the Bulls, local media or fans. Id really like to see this team win this series though, without derrick.
  4. The reasons pointed out are also good ones. Please dont forget the most important thing: Ricketts owns Wrigley Field.
  5. The Cubs do not need public financing to do anything. They are easily financially viable enough to attract privately placed debt that these days is cheap. Anybody suggesting it is financially viable for ricketts to move the team hasnt really considered all the variables. Maybe in 15-20 years the economics will evolve to the point where its viable but its absolutely not viable now.
  6. I wonder if they are dicking the players around with this [expletive] too.
  7. I remember reading a quote from Epstein a year or two ago where he was reminiscing this kickass convo he had with Hoyer or maybe somebody else back at the old shop about "what if it was only our guys" and then naming pedroia ellsbury and a bunch of other guys they drafted and how cool itd be if they just built a team with there own guys. That team would have blown and now im afraid hes trying to do this, hes not good at it, it'd take forever and probably wont succeed.
  8. I'd love to see tiger go low today and win. Hopefully they set it up tough.
  9. These people calling for him to DQ himself are really seizing their opportunity to be sanctimonious a-holes.
  10. The 17% revenue they get from the rooftops is a bonus to the extent that not blocking the views doesnt reduce revenue from additional signage. So its not that parasitic. And Id think those two sides would be firmly alligned when it comes to night-games, which in terms of additional revenue is a game-changer and absolutely dwarfs the revenue impact of a Bobak's vs Al's race or whatever other hell is gonna go on the jumbotron.
  11. Pretty simplistic. Contributing is pretty much their only way to get an advocate. The cubs have and im sure use leverage points and contacts in the city. If it were so simple the Cubs would save a ton of money and throw $200k at Tunney have him flip his position and be done with it.
  12. Youre probably right here. The new incarnation of the rooftops doesnt add charm, whereas the prior I think probably did. So when they were infringing on the cubs property they were adding a bit of charm and since the agreement they are providing the consideration to do what they are doing. So basically im not gonna fault them for advocating for their businesses and trying to enforce their contract.
  13. They negotiated a contract with the Cubs to do their thing. Im not sure what harm they are currently doing other than trying to enforce it.
  14. Im not really understanding why everybody hates the rooftops so much. Ive been up there a couple times and had a decent time. The Cubs dont own that land and under an agreement to not block their views. You can definately argue that the rooftops have added to the atmosphere that makes the cubs one of the most valuable franchises in pro sports. ETA: As a fan I dont want a jumbotron because they are stupid looking and unnecessary. I dont think that the local ads they would run would drive revenue materially and I think the relatively austere aesthetic of the park best serves the team intact.
  15. The guy purchased wrigley field. There was never any leverage. Drastically devaluing your franchise while simultaneously taking a huge bath on a real estate purchase is not credible leverage. Only rosenbloom would be fooled by that bluff.
  16. Nothing that has happened today or monday suggests that marmol cant be as good as he was most of last year. We should absolutely keep using him (i) we dont have a reasonable alternative (ii) upside is there to help us win or enable us to move him. Its not like we have a bunch of guys we can trust to get consistent outs. ETA: And the personal dislike of marmol is bs. Im guessing hes not nearly as effective as he used to be in part because we marched him out there 80 times a year to snap off 25 straight sliders.
  17. That was an incredibly hittable breaking ball.
  18. If he drives two in here im gonna be a fan of his for at least 2 weeks.
  19. This is the guy you want in the box right now.
  20. Baseball aside, Soriano looks great for 37.
  21. Oh ok nice. Rick Morrissey has a D Rose article in tomorrow Times gonna need to scoop up a paper copy for the train.
  22. Todd Hollandsworth is lookin more professional. Looks like he went from inside sales to outside sales hey go get 'em JH.
