B-ref was using Total Zone for defensive metrics, while FG was using UZR, which is more reliable. They were also calculating replacement level differently.

Sure, but McClellan's point was that the Cardinals, their fans and the media should stop using the "Cardinal Way" because it's about morals and Carlos Martinez and Jhonny Peralta go against that. That's why I said I would have agreed with him had he set the record straight on what it really means (an organizational blueprint), rather than yelling at the media.

I think he missed the mark with this. The Cardinal Way is an organizational blueprint. If he wanted to take people to task for misrepresenting what it is, I would've agreed with that, but he's basically griping about a successful marketing strategy.

He doesn't have to be that good, but it's not out of the realm either.

They've balancing that out this year by graduating a metric crap-ton of talent to the majors and to full-time duty. I don't think that'll balance that out. Assuming good health, they improved their defense by leaps and bounds with Carpenter, Wong/Ellis and Bourjos. They also swapped out a historically bad offensive shortstop for one who should at least be 150 points better. They didn't win 97 games because of RISP.

I'm not shocked or anything, but John Calipari's abilities are mystifying. It feels like his powers should be saved for useful things.

I want to rant, too. I didn't have many expectations for Missouri because Phil Pressey abandoned ship, and it was going to be another transition year even if he stayed. People seem to lose sight of the fact that Missouri's success two years ago was a result of having six seniors, which has led to the word "regression" being thrown around, as if a team that has turned over its entire roster can regress. Haith made the best of a bad situation that Mike Anderson put him in by grabbing Oriakhi, Bell and Brown, but the failure of his first recruiting class is weighing the team down. Hopefully a miracle happens and Clarkson and Brown stay next season. With Price, Bello and Biedscheid coming in they're going to have more depth. Next season is going to be a lot more interesting, plus no more Tony Criswell. /end
