  1. It's Jason Goff fwiw
  2. Love how it's very little to no notes. Clearly not the polished speaker that Theo is, but lots of content that does nothing but coddle my baseball sensibilities. Happiness.
  3. The problem Brunette is running into is he just doesn't have the legs to keep up on the 1st line. The Hawks are obviously a team that want to move and he seems to be late getting into position almost always. He might be better off on the 3rd or 4th line and PP duty when/if Morin comes up.
  4. The Columbus game was much too close. Please put back together Keith and Seabrook. Splitting your puck moving defensmen up is a good thing. On the exciting front, Rusty Olesz and his 3 million dollar look like they'll be gracing the 4th line tonight. Thank God. Hopefully he can replace John Scotts 1 minute of ice time against one of the worst teams int he league.
  5. My team is carried by my QB/WR's. PPR. Need to pick one out of these two: Delone Carter vs. Ten Daniel Thomas vs. NYG This is assuming I start Bowe/Austin/Marshall as my WR's
  6. While all you said is true, is it worth the diminished play of Duncan Keith? He clearly feels he needs to be more responsible in the defensive end to help cover up for Leddy's shortcomings at this point. He was a top 3 all around defensemen in the league two years ago.. Last year he was average at best and while off to a slightly better start this season, still a shade of himself two years ago.
  7. The problem is the NHL needs to entice that casual fan. Coupling that need with the desire for limiting player safety and minutes, I think the current format is the best compromise possible. Getting back to this years Hawks, can we possibly start a petition to get #2-#7 back on the same defensive unit? That pairing was widely considered a top 3 unit in the NHL two years ago and Duncan won some trophy of some significance if I remember correctly. Keith and Leddy play, or want to play, similar games and both are going to be susceptible to teams with bigger forwards who want to dump and chase and hit behind the goal line. If you just look at the type of games each of our D-men play, I can't come up with a compelling reason it shouldn't be Keith/Seabs, Leddy/Hammer, Mont/OD/Lep
  8. Q: Ryne Sandberg is in town. Are you talking to him? A: 'Not talking to him at all' Mike Quade is the guy we are going to be talking to in the next few days and decide where to go from there.
  9. Q: Asking about the 'Cubs Way' Vertical Integration and all that. A: Fundamentally important. Needs to start from rookie ball on up. Gave example of overly aggressive hitter in rookie ball. Talked that the organization will have a coach in place that will teach the hitter to work counts, get himself into hitters counts. Once he moves up to A ball, stressed importance of having a coach in place there that uses the same techniques and words as he previous coach in order not to stunt the development of player....Awesome. =D>
  10. Q: Who sold who on the job? A: They both sold each other. Tom obviously watched Theo from afar. Theo listened to Tom about his vision. Theo was very intrigued by the Cubs recent draft. Not necessarily the players, but the money the Cubs were willing to spend. Actions showed more than words. Best money spent is on the draft and development. 'who wants to show up at an organization that's already built?' Part of the appeal of the job to Theo was the amount of work to be done. The reward will be that much greater
  11. Q: When you initially took over in Boston, you might have had a competitive advantage with Sabermetrics stuff. Now there are a lot of teams using the same types of statistical analysis, how does theo keep a competitive advantage? A: 'Landscape is getting much more flat' When he first started, AVG. was valued higher than OBP. Marketplace is more efficient. Creates a challenge to separate as an organization. Need to outwork other teams, R & D to find small insights that the other 29 teams don't have. The challenge makes it more interesting.
  12. Q: Talking about Francona and the drama going on with Red Sox, how much responsibility does he take for all of that as GM A: 'I take full responsibility' As the GM, the buck stops with me so it's all on me. Talked about instances of unacceptable behavior. Says it wasn't just a September thing, had to be going on all year. Upset at himself and Francona that they didn't discover the problems developing early on in the year. Learned that just b/c you are playing like the best team in baseball, can't get apathetic and not be focusing on the organization every single day
  13. Q: Read how you built the team in Boston, uniqueness of ballpark and area. Compare to Wrigley with changing seasons, day games, wind etc. A: 'It's a riddle for me right now' Going to have to dig deep into the situation to figure it out. Going to be very complex, but we will figure it out. Understanding the environment you play in, both your park and other parks in division, very important to team building and lineup construction
  14. Talking about the importance of small decisions. Right scouts being at the right games, some scouts better with pitchers others with hitters etc... Important to have the right staff and right processes in place to be right more than being wrong.
  15. Put on Mully and Hanley in 10 minutes for that shall be a short lived title
  16. He's on Mully and Hanley at 830. Unfortunate that the two worst interviewers on the Score get to interview him. Get ready for questions that aren't really questions at all that are not cleverly wrapped between uncomfortable jokes and fake uproarious laughter.
  17. I actually don't have too big of a problem with shootouts. It's a long damn season and at least it cuts down on minutes and injury risk that a multiple/longer OT format would bring. Plus, if the game of tiddly winks attracts some casual fans, that's great for the sport. This Patrick Kane guy, the Hawks might have something with him. Good 2 points tonight. Hiller is a borderline elite goalie who stoned us on multiple breakaways.
  18. I have friends who I previously considered to be smart baseball fans who are adamantly against this hire. I don't get how, but there are some smart people who aren't against it..Gordon Wittenmyer's lunacy excluded obviously.
  19. http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/11/2011/10/medium_larussa-game5-worldseries.gif
  20. Think this will be a disaster? Just like being a contrarian? Just uncomfortable with everyone being so happy? Get on board the anti Theo bandwagon today and maybe 5 years from now you'll look like the smartest guy in the room.
  21. If they spent more than 5 minutes on shootouts, it's a waste of time of legendary proportions. Maybe work on the defense that allows 3 guys to cover one and a guy to have a breakaway from blue line with less than 2 minutes left.
  22. I'm always go with B&B for big press conferences. The drops are usually outstanding. I'll catch the uninterrupted version of it late.
  23. Hawks looked good. Phoenix is barely an NHL team. I mean, look at that roster. It's not even fun bad. Just bad bad. I did love Bolland's short handed goal though, didn't even pretend to hide the big slapper.
  24. The third line is giving me wood.
  25. It definitely moved.
