  1. WINNAR :-)) Thanks! But in all seriousness, I think that La Russa convinced him to just get this out there and over with by Spring Training. I'm annoyed at how 'big' of a story this will be the next week or so
  2. In other breaking news, Tiger Woods is addicted to whores.
  3. Excellent article, thanks for posting this!
  4. :-)) So one offhand joke about Neal Cotts and that my belief that no one in baseball is above suspicion for using PED's at any point makes me 'wacky' Got it. We can be adults and have an interesting conversation about steroid use and perception without insulting one another. Did every single one of the Cubs you listed use PED's at some point? Most likely not, but I do not understand how someone can think that no one on this team in the past 15 years or so has used steroids. In my opinion, no one who has played in this era is above suspicion. Which is fine, it really is. It's a sad part of baseball's history, but it does not make me love the game any less. Maybe Neal Cotts never used. Maybe he had some with his Cheerios every morning. Unfortunately for him and every other player, the time in which he plays baseball makes it perfectly reasonable for anyone to at least think for a second that he did use. This is now way more Neal Cotts references that I have ever wanted to make in my entire life. :banghead:
  5. The fan club's one member is anxiously awaiting it. :D Mrs. Cotts is a wonderful lady.
  6. Dear NSBB Community, I regret making a joke about Neal Cotts and steroids in baseball. Thinking that one year where his era was almost 3.0 points lower and his whip was .2 points lower than any other year in his career was strange was way out of line. My donation check to the Neal Cotts fan club is in the mail. I agree 100%, but doesn't mean anyone is above suspicion which was the point of my offhanded joke that I really didn't put any thought into
  7. Did I miss something about how he was actually connected to steroids or is every fluke season by a guy this board doesn't like going to elicit a stupid response about steroids? Did not realize a steroid joke about Neal Cotts was one of your buttons. #-o Beyond that though, I feel it's more than reasonable to assume or at least question anyone with a vast jump in stats over the last 15 year period or so. So when a guy as a few awesome years, then goes to total crap...yea
  8. Second City Hockey is also an excellent Hawks in terms of discussions/information
  9. I definitely see your point, but I don't think it would be that big of a problem. People should get into the hall based on their performance in the era. I always sort of ask myself was this player in the discussion for best player of the decade when he played? Take all of that with a grain of salt though as I think Barry Bonds/Rose etc should be in the hall.
  10. +1 I don't agree with Boers and Bernstein with a lot of their opinions, but when they rant about the baseball hall of fame I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly. The criteria should be: 'Is player x a hall of famer?' The answer should be Yes or No. A maybe equals a no. They also went through the entire hall of fame and basically culled 60% of the members in there. It was really great radio as the Baseball Hall of Fame carries the most meaning behind it and the criteria to join should be that way.
  11. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ I'm shocked Alomar did not make it. I wonder if this is the one year slap on the wrist for spitting on the ump.
  12. :-)) In '05 he was 4-0 60 IP, 38 hits 16 runs 1.94 era and a 1.110 whip Last year, 0-2 in 11IP, 14 hits and 9 runs, 7.36era, 2.091 whip Steroids are fun. Enjoy your time Neal
  13. Yes, please What would we need to guarantee him? 3-5 million maybe? The risk/reward here makes it a no-brainer that we sign him which is the exact reason why we don't.
  14. That's because he's 2010 speak for Reed Johnson
  15. Speechless.
  16. Interesting fact: Look Marlon Byrd on Baseball Reference.com his most similar player? Reed Mantle Johnson. http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/scomp_bat.cgi?I=byrdma01:Marlon%20Byrd&st=career&compage=&age= Sorry if this was mentioned in the 12 page Byrd thread, didn't thumb through it
  17. There is a difference between want and best available option considering all financial factors. I don't WANT Sam Fuld starting center, but I could live with it if other problems with this team were fixed
  18. It is really good to have honest to goodness tangible baseball topics to discuss again though \:D/ I think like 49 days or so until pitchers and catchers report
  19. I thought we all agreed not to speak his name anymore.
  20. :-)) good point sir Like I've probably failed to make clear, I don't hate it. Just hope this isn't in place of another move we would have been able to do. Put him in the 7 hole and hope for a 750-800 ops
  21. Yes. I'd argue no when you consider the limited budget and other places we need help. Obviously Byrd is better, I just don't know for this team right now. That would mean Fuld becomes a full-time player. Probably end up around a .650-675 OPS, maybe not even that good. Compare that with the .800 OPS that Byrd will likely put up. 100-150 points of OPS is a lot. Sure Fuld's defense is better, but not nearly enough to compensate for the difference in OPS. Maybe, I'd think Fuld could be around 700. I definitely understand your point though. I don't know, I'd be more excited doing something with 15 million that moved Riot to 2nd and brought us a SS. Let's see where else the offseason goes to judge this move on the whole I suppose. Where's he hitting? 7? The 20 home runs seems to be the anomaly last year
  22. Yes. I'd argue no when you consider the limited budget and other places we need help. Obviously Byrd is better, I just don't know for this team right now.
  23. I just don't understand the end game with a move like this. He's pretty much just a guy on a team with plenty of holes. Is he really 5 million/year better than Fuld in center?
  24. He'll be 30 in January. 8 years? That's going to be some serious bad paper as a 37 year old making 17.5 million. As a Cubs fan, I hope they do this.
  25. Yup, can't do it. Go Bears.
