  1. I can sorta see that.
  2. Nice job sticking with the fastball. Maybe he learned something in Detroit. But guys... I really feel that this is the beginning of the resurgence of the Cubs. Everything is starting to click... and we're getting all the hits. It feels like 2008.
  3. Fukudome is a much better lead-off hitter than Soriano.
  4. Wow... as much as I hate the guy, nice job Fonz. A solid hit and then some good baserunning. Hahaha... and the guys on ESPN just brought up Geo's testing positive and Lou's admission to smoking pot before. Len and Bob never touched it, did they?
  5. I'm very happy with the moves... it's exactly what I woulda done. Now just DFA Miles and we are good to go.
  6. x2 I wouldn't mind seeing them try that.
  7. That lineup looks so sexy. I like it more every day.
  8. How does he do that? By hitting singles off the wall, and turning doubles into singles because he doesn't run hard? I know that you can create runs by being a good base runner, but I don't think Fonzie is the greatest base runner around... Team runs are extremely important. Individual runs, though, do not show anything about a player's skill that his other stats don't tell us. It's a fairly pointless stat as far as grading a player, IMHO. Who cares if he's a good base runner when he's hitting doubles off the wall constantly? That was his point. And again, you're oversimplifying that they mean by runs. Isn't saying he constantly bangs doubles off the wall oversimplifying things? Or lying. :-))
  9. I'm all for it. Not to mention, the guy is from Illinois and went to ISU. I'd say sign him, and give Patton to Colorado with a bow on his head. Then we can send down Hart and Shark, replacing them with Guzman and Ascanio... and I think we have a good pen. Marshall Heilman Herges Ascanio Guzman Marmol Gregg I'm not a fan of Gregg as the closer... but that's another issue. I think with those 7 guys, we can have a very reliable pen.

  11. When was this? He was great for 14 games in July last year. 2.08 ERA, 1.154 WHIP, 12:3 K:BB So he got lucky I guess?
  12. Hmm... last time I checked we have three of our highest paid players playing third, left and right. Fox is a bat without an available position.
  13. But he is an above average defender. Soriano is a TERRIBLE defender with an above-average throwing arm. And nice job, Bradley.
  14. Runs aren't even an individual stat... you put too much stock into them. It's almost like you don't see the correlation between getting on base and scoring runs. To score a run, all a player can do is get on base (which Soriano doesn't do) and maybe steal bases (which Soriano doesn't do). Past that, it's entirely up to the guy's teammates to drive him in. It's not like Soriano knows some kind of secret where he can score runs on his own. Ichiro has only scored 40 runs this year despite a .367/.402 line. He must be a pretty crappy lead-off hitter, right? When choosing a leadoff hitter, you need to choose someone that has a high OBP, preferably a high AVG, and stolen bases are also a plus. OBP is the most important part, though. The higher the OBP, the higher the chance of scoring runs, period. It's also good to have someone who knows the game and can play small ball. If you have a guy like that in the lead-off spot, the runs will come. Runs are a product of many variables... they don't just happen.
  15. Hmm this is not good. I just hope this turns into one of those wild comebacks that we talk about in the future.
  16. If Sam Fuld stays on the roster and they send down either Fox or Hoff, I'm gonna lose my mind.
  17. The question is... what happens if Soriano has a big game today? Does Lou decide, "oh wow, he's fixed" and move him back to leadoff? Or, does he leave him in the 6 hole? Personally, I don't ever wanna see Soriano batting leadoff again, no matter how hot he is.
  18. Hmm... I dunno what to make of this. I guess the guy has a pretty strong upside... but I can't imagine this move is gonna be all we do. Doesn't seem like he'll be enough of an impact player.
  19. When was this?
