  1. Really? I've cared about more than that for about three weeks now. Not like I am enamored with Valbuena, Coghlan, Castillo, and Ruggiano, but I certainly want them to do well and think any/all of them can have an impact in the future.
  2. That would be cool if it were true. Unfortunately, Jorge Soler is slugging .700, meaning Bryant and Schwarber rank second and third.
  3. Soler HR. He's getting really hot before his imminent promotion.
  4. Someone tell me why I shouldn't like Jeffrey Baez. I know I shouldn't -- serious contact issues and is still in A-ball. But the power and speed have me excited.

  6. My goodness. What a day! Good to see Soler snap out of his funk.
  7. Wow! Schwarber is pretty good, huh?
  8. Javy is tied for fourth among NL rookies in HR. Oh, and, Mike Olt is first. #-o
  9. Please, no Brian McCann.
  10. To my knowledge isn't the Bosio magic basically taking guys with high ground-ball rates that had underperformed their decent peripherals and making them perform even better by getting them to throw more sliders and cutters and rely less on the fastball, and, in effect, get more ground balls? In that case, Edwin Jackson doesn't really fit that quota as he has a normal ground-ball rate and relies heavily on his fastball. I know Bosio has also done a great job at getting Arrieta to work with a more consistent and repeatable delivery, but I am not sure exactly he could do for Edwin. I don't think there was much hope for Edwin to get any of that Bosio magic, in the first place.
  11. He's not going to. He's been very honest and blunt to the media about his poor performance all season (he actually sounds like a really good guy, FYI). This was tonight: Well, that's good to see. If in the same position, I would probably have a defeatist attitude. It's got to be tough on him to be going through this; it's not like he wants to suck.
  12. Tell him tough [expletive]: You have an ERA over 6. Or DFA. It doesn't make sense to DFA him right now, with us not in contention and rosters soon to expand. You would rather not. But, at this point, who cares? It's a sunk cost.
  13. Wood: .261/.306/.500 8 R 3 HR 10 RBI .354 wOBA 124 wRC+ Bumgarner: .269/.304/.481 9 R 3 HR 12 RBI .341 wOBA 123 wRC+ Seems like a pretty even match-up.
  14. Wow, that's terrible.
  15. It would seem likely that we are in the conversation. Two guys in the top 4 or 5 is a great start, plus we still have depth after that. Who would the other contenders be? All of the Twins top guys are hurt, Pirates have a bunch of pitchers but they're pitchers, so they barely count. Twins and Astros. Twins are probably the only one I could see as an argument over the Cubs, even without Baez and Alcantara. But, like you said, there's a lot of injuries to their top guys. I would probably still say Cubs are at the top, but a lot depends on how someone views our lower guys like Almora, McKinney, Schwarber, Tseng, Edwards, and Johnson. Not much to argue about at the top of our pile of prospects.
  16. Definitely time for Turner to take his spot. Put him in the 'pen or give him a phantom injury and put him on the DL.
  17. It would seem likely that we are in the conversation. Two guys in the top 4 or 5 is a great start, plus we still have depth after that.
  18. And the infield is a mess... It might be awhile before this game resumes, if at all. What the hell happened there? How could it possibly take 15 minutes?
  19. Wow... Russell has been so good. I am loving the power. He's still only 20, too.
  20. Nothing to fear; Mike Olt is 0-3 with 3 K's tonight.
  21. Didn't get to see the game. It looks like Hendricks had some good BABIP luck. And I read he didn't have his best command -- also noticed a lack of the usual amount of ground balls. Were the Mets squaring up balls on him, or still a lot of weak contact?
  22. I certainly think having a strong "baseball intellect" can help. But, it's not something special about Hendricks. Max Scherzer also has a good baseball intellect and knows how to pitch to guys, but you never hear about that because he is good at everything that relates to pitching. It's like the dreaded game manager label for QBs. The fact is: Without knowing how to sequence pitches, where to locate pitches, etc., Hendricks never would have made it this far. But, that can be said about most pitchers. So, yes, it helps. But, who gives a [expletive]?
