  1. 6IP 5H 1 ER 1BB 4K for Zastryzny so far.
  2. Torres ends 3/5 with a 2B and 3B. Swoon Yeah, I really like Torres. I think the discussion from a few days ago about him in the top-5 is warranted. I am very anxious to see him in Kane County next year. What's his glove supposed to be like? I think I remember hearing reports questioning if he would stick at short, but I could be wrong. And, obviously, who the [expletive] really knows about 16-year-old kids?
  3. I think Valbuena absolutely is a starter next year and that we would be crazy to trade him this off-season. The way I see it: Either Bryant goes to the outfield and Valbuena starts at third, or Bryant sticks at third and one of Castro or Baez is traded in a package for Stanton, in which case Valbuena slides over to second. Clearly, those aren't the only options and it might be myopic, but I think we obtain the most value out of our roster by doing one of those two things. Unless someone can convince me otherwise, then I see no reason Valbuena wouldn't start for us next year. Then, Russell can come up later on next year and get time wherever, and Valbuena can be a super-utility guy, playing some outfield, as well. We can revisit the Valbuena trade market next off-season, if everything goes to plan, and it looks like he might be in line for 200 PA instead of 500+ in 2016. Yes, his value drops considerably with only one year of control left, but we just aren't to the point of worrying about shipping off 3-win guys right now. Maybe you can use Valbuena in a trade for pitching this off-season, instead. But, I just don't see it. I think he brings the most value as a member of our roster next season.
  4. he's a weirdo i like his info but he's borderline creepy Agreed. You have to separate the persona and the information he gives. He is definitely a weird guy, though.
  5. I mean, the other narrative is completely over the top. I think the narrative here is that the media needs to tone it down and quit equating every mistake as some catastrophic injustice toward the game of baseball. Everyone in this thread was upset about what happened tonight.
  6. I'm happy with Kiley at Fangraphs. I am hoping it means they delve into the minor leagues and scouting much more. Their visibility has gone through the roof, and I think they are trying to be a one-stop shop for all baseball-related things. They need to pour more energy and resources into the minors and hiring Kiley makes me think they will.
  7. "That's a is very disappointing quote." That's Kaplan's response to Renteria's quote. There is so much stupid in here: https://twitter.com/thekapman/with_replies
  8. And I know looking at one season's UZR data is stupid and pointless. But, I was just trying to emphasize that our sure-handed first baseman who is supossed to be great defensively has made some stupid plays defensively because of laziness or not having his head in the game or whatever. And he doesn't get any [expletive] for it. He could be much better than he is defensively. But, I am not going to argue how good I think he is defensively any more, because it's pointless. I agree he is pretty good defensively.

And he is. Mainly because of mental blunders. So because Cabrera is weirdly (which tends to happen on occasion with fielding metrics) 7th in baseball in UZR/150 this year, Rizzo isn't that good defensively... Well, I said particularly good. I agree he is good defensively, but he's not special. And he could be if it weren't for some mental blunders.

  11. I'll bet you seven NSBBucks that he looked at his defensive WAR on Fangraphs. More like, he has nine errors this year. And several other blunders that are holding him back. I admit he has the potential to be a fantastic defender. And has been pretty good. But not great. If you don't think his mental lapses are holding him back defensively, then I don't know what to say.
  12. That doesn't make it not racist. The narrative can be racist on some level locally because I believe if it had been Rizzo you wouldn't read about it tomorrow but JD would've still gotten on him. However, Castro has had too many instances where his mental lapses have cost his team and lost games. And guess what? That's not because he is brown, that's because he doesn't keep his head in the game at all times. Other players have issues with that too, but it doesn't seem to show up in situations that directly cost teams ballgames. He has earned the reputation and it's easy to keep it when it happens on a regular basis. I still think he's a stud and I love his game, but those little plays right there need to go away and that has nothing to do with skin color. And yet Rizzo doesn't have his head in the game at all times and you never hear about it, let alone hear about it over and over again. I mean, we have heard for how long that Rizzo has Gold Glove potential, and yet he doesn't play defense particularly well... because he is lazy or nonchalant or whatever. What in God's name??! I mean, he's pretty good. But far from awesome. And I think a lot has to do with plays where he spaces out.

  14. How did Turner have like a 6 ERA? That is some filth.
  15. How many times has Castillo gunned out Billy Hamilton this season?
  16. I think I've seen a study that said this is true -- that some guys are just worse from the stretch. That obviously would make things like FIP and xFIP not work very well with them.
  17. Probably only if they were pitching against Travis Wood.
  18. Hey, we're only 10.5 out of the wild card.
  19. I shouldn't have grouped him with the others. I do love him. I simply only "care" about the others.
  20. Really? I've cared about more than that for about three weeks now. Not like I am enamored with Valbuena, Coghlan, Castillo, and Ruggiano, but I certainly want them to do well and think any/all of them can have an impact in the future. I guess I don't see most of them as significant contributors to the future. Maybe Castillo if for no other reason than the lack of options to replace him, and he's fine in a lineup loaded with other good players. Agreed. We might just have different definitions of "care about." It's kind of relative. I mean, guys like Joe Mather and Donnie Murphy, I absolutely did not care about. But, I get upset at Coghlan when he misplays a ball in the outfield or Castillo when he strikes out. With what we rolled out in the past two years, I was just so apathetic.
  21. This really made a blah day get a lot more interesting.
