  1. Gonna guess this is another one of them Yeah, like you would know anything about a Cardinals fan pretending to be a Cubs fan.
  2. I just did the same. Lots of hearts handed out. When watching the game last night, I made a joke about the Pirates fans leaving early and asking if that was on their cheer sheet. I was going to say something similar in here, but TT already knocked those jokes out of the park last night.
  3. I think if he says "sub-.700 OPS shortstop" one more time, then Neifi Perez will appear in a mirror.
  4. Oh my god, yes! I seriously can't get enough of these Supremely Confident Arrieta stories.
  5. lmao some dude on another board (GRB i think) convinced himself that arrieta's game last night was encouraging and that he was getting hit hard. As evidenced by their four hits, three of which where on grounders, none of which were extra-base hits. Oh, they also got five balls into the outfield that were caught for outs.

  7. During which, our starting pitchers have given up two runs total.
  8. You might call it an October Revolution.
  9. I think they are already there for me. I'm 30, so it's either '98, '03, or '08 for me. I loved 2008, because we just steamrolled through the regular season. 2003 was special because of how close we got. But, '98 really made me a baseball fan for life. I'd always been a Cub fan and played baseball as a kid. But, that season got me hooked. There's something about this year that has been really great, though. I don't know if it is because it came so fast after a stretch of being horrible, or if it is because of all the young kids, or all the walk-off wins and other exciting games we've had. Probably a combination of a lot of things. I also really like a lot of our players. They seem like a nice group of young men. They have a lot of fun. Maddon's made things fun, too. And we started off kinda slow and then just put the pedal down. There's just a je ne sais quoi there that makes me really love this team.
  10. I think you have the starters right. I have no idea how Joe would order them, but yours looks good to me.
  11. Well, sure, we can start our Rookie of the Year out in the outfield, where he has hardly played, and then bring him into the infield and watch him make a couple of nice plays with the leather. No big deal.
  12. I'm happy for Starlin. I don't know how many meatball fans I have heard say some variation of, "He's a loser. We'll never win with him on the team." Tonight's got to feel nice for someone like him that has been through some shitty seasons, especially with all of the ire he has drawn from a lot of people.
  13. We are going to sweep them. Jon starts things out with a complete game shutout. Schwarber dongs twice, and Bryant and Rizzo each add a dong. Cubs win 7-0.
  14. I must say, Arrieta is rapidly moving up my list of Most Loved Cubs Ever. He tells everyone all week that he is going to come out and shut them down. Then he comes out and does just that. And they try to start [expletive] with him and he... steals a base on the very next pitch. What a bad man. I love him.
  15. I'm sure it's been discussed ad nauseam in this thread, but wtf was with them hitting Arrieta? This is the playoffs; act like you are the ones who have been there before. Your whole pitching philosophy is about owning the inside part of the plate and you've led the majors in HBP in each of the last three years. Does this mean you expect every other team to throw at your pitcher after he hits a batter? If so, that's a lot of stupid, petty beanball wars. Spare me your indignation at a couple balls slipping and hitting your batters, considering you hit more people accidentally than any other team in baseball.

  17. Hendricks also had a full season at high-A before moving up to AA. There was plenty to look at before he got to this level, unlike Williams. I agree, he probably wasn't overlooked, in the sense that the list is really strong and it would be impossibly difficult for Williams to make it. But, he basically admitted that he knew nothing about Williams, anyway.
