I'm way more fine with this than all the tortured takes about why the rotation isn't actually bad. To be fair, most of my takes have been about why we can win with bad starting pitching in the playoffs. And these are the reasons why. I've said as much multiple times in the past. I do think the rotation can get better, too. But I really don't care much if they just suck all year.

Also, and I can't stress this enough, the rest of the Cubs are really good! We have the best offense in the NL, the best base running in the NL, the second-lowest bullpen ERA in the NL, quite possibly the best defense thanks to Galaxy Brain Stearns. There's a reason we are good and have the best record, the best RD, and the best BaseRuns in the NL. Quit worrying so much about the damn rotation.

It’s just crazy that what you described above is the starter we feel best about right now on a team with the best record in the NL Not me. Kyle is our ace and always will be. And he's going to pitch like an ace the rest of the year. Q is just a guy right now until he proves he's more. I'm hoping Darvish comes back and can give us a another solid option at the top. But, I've got all the faith in the world in Hendricks.

Yeah, I'm not arguing he's been good or anything. Whatever word you want to use. I said decent. You said mediocre. We can go with that. I think he's good enough to give us 5 innings and keep us in a game in October. (And I think he can get better, since he's been better his whole career.) Mainly, he hasn't been hit as hard since around mid-May and the results (ERA) have been better. His exit velocity numbers and batted ball data looked really bad at the start of the year. Since then, it's mostly been the walks, which have stayed around all year. Not forgiving the walks, because they are bad, but he can survive with our defense if he isn't getting hit hard.

It is and has been bad but Hendricks has looked really like his old self for quite a few starts now so idk what to tell you about there but he looks encouraging, Q is solid and has been mostly solid all year and Darvish seems well on his way back, Lester was due for major regression and hopefully that get sorted out soon and he turns it back around and Hamels is doing enough interesting things outside of that stupid park in Texas to think he’s going to be good. It’s the flailing cherry picking that gets me. Use “looks” for one guy, not-terrible ERA for another, appeal to regression for a third, and the vague “interesting things” for the fourth. You’re not evaluating them, you’re looking for reasons to forgive them. Fine. The pitching is bad and will still bad and the Cubs will stay the best team in the NL.

No one is denying that it has been bad. It has. It has signs of being better. Hendricks has a 3.07 FIP in 7 starts since the start of July. He's pretty much back to being himself. Quintana has been decent since around mid-May. Chatwood is no longer in the rotation. It sounds like Darvish might be expected back. And these guys have track records of being better than they have to this point. And, despite how bad it's been -- BAD -- the Cubs still have the best record in the NL. It's not that much of a worry.

Against teams currently in the NL playoffs, we are 14-9. If the Dodgers move past the Braves in the order tonight, we'd be 16-9.

Why do you goobers act like "we'll just bullpen it" is some trump card lmao. If the starter gives up 5 runs in three innings, it's not gonna make much of a difference how good our bullpen might be. We have the best record in the NL. It's worked all season. Why won't it work in the playoffs?

All of the complaints about the lineup can be solved by moving Rizzo out of the leadoff spot. That's the only reason Joe is getting cute with the other stuff. Move his ass down.

Alcides Escobar has a career OBP of .291. They aren't in the same conversation. Russell is hitting .268/.339/.378 with a 94 wRC+. The league average shortstop is hitting .255/.318/.402 with a 94 wRC+. He's hit exactly like an average shortstop, with excellent defense. I stand corrected. I guess I'll just appreciate our average hitting shortstop who I thought for sure had to be a horsefeathers offensive player but who is not. He's definitely been a major disappoint -- and a shitty person. He's our worst bat, for sure. But that's the case with most teams' shortstops. Shortstops can't hit. The Brewers are sacrificing offense for defense with Orlando Arcia, because he plays a good shortstop, and he's hitting .197/.233/.249. He's also a worse defender than Russell. He definitely hasn't lived up to expectations and he is probably a major piece of horsefeathers. So there's really no need to appreciate him. But he's a fine player.
