South Bend definitely has some talent. D.J. Wilson is clearly the crown jewel. I'm not sure there's anyone else that's all that exciting, but Wilson's tools are legit. Short and Paredes were impressive, too. There's no way Paredes stays at short, though. He has no speed. And he's a couple pounds away from looking like Pablo Sandoval. He looked fine in the field. There was nothing too tough hit at him, but he looked smooth and has a nice arm. Short has a nice arm, too. And he made a nice diving snag of a liner at third. I wonder where all the errors are coming from with him. All three hit the ball hard a couple times, too. Paredes and Short have really nice approaches at the plate. Wilson drew a walk against a lefty. His approach seemed fine. There was some swing-and-miss, but it wasn't too bad. He was late on some high heat once and was fooled on a breaking ball. But he hit a couple of hard liners. He gets his money's worth with his swing, at that size. Quick hands. And he's incredibly fast and runs the bases very well. Duncan Robinson pitched and pitched well. Lots of weakly-hit ground balls. His curveball looked good and had them off-balance all day. But I'm not so sure that it wasn't just because their lineup was clueless. And judging by their batting lines, it appears that might be the case. Their big first baseman squared him up well a couple times. And the rest of the hitters looked hapless. Perada played first, so I didn't get to see him work behind the dish.
