  1. let the piling on begin! circa 2007; Z v. Barrett. not a story, imo. just get healthy.
  2. i actually (dillusionally) thought about this last night, particularly with Harden. i just pictured Harden and Lou laughing about it. Rich: "Skip, I'm fine. It's just normal soreness from pitching this time of year. It's not really how you described it. I can pitch." Lou: "Oh well. Let's let them squirm for a while and think you're injured. Who really cares what they think? We were going to skip you anyway. You'll show them you're fine when you pitch next week." Rich: "Word." it's what got me through the game last night. i'll just stay in this little fantasy land until i'm confronted with reality.
  3. I'd say I'm heavily on the optimistic side with a just a dash of pessimism starting to be sprinkled in re: Zambrano and Harden. I'm not worried about the offense.
  4. haha...it just wouldn't be the football season if goony wasn't getting pissed-off by Peter King. And, yeah...it was pretty bad. I haven't heard anything about his supposed "enough already" story about teams deffering to the second half.
  5. Why would they put anyone on the 15 day DL when hey can have up to 40 men on the active roster? Touche... but you get the picture. If Zs OK, I still like the idea of him and Harden sharing a rotation spot until October. i don't think i like the idea of them going that far between starts for a month. in the playoffs, they're going to have four days rest, max, so i don't necessarily like that idea. let Harden skip one start, fine; but then get him back on the regular routine. as for Zambrano, maybe the same thing, if appropriate. skip his next start. that get's him pitching again for his next start on about the 14th (11 days of rest).
  6. If you can still get them, give them to me haha. My girlfriend's best friend (who lives in Indy) has box seats to the game. That stadium looks absolutely incredible, so I would have gone in a heartbeat. i can't get them anymore. this was a few weeks ago. i live in Indy so that probably makes me a little more sour toward the Colts than some people. the way people get on me about the Bears in the office gets tired, particularly when they play eachother. it's good natured except for the secretaries, which is hilarious. they get really pissed off just thinking about me rooting for the Bears. like i'm personally offending them. monday will be funny either way. i look forward to my cubicle being heavily decorated if the Colts win.
  7. i actually passed on tickets to this game. i just can't bear (punny) the thought of sitting through a Colts love-fest to open their new stadium just to watch them man-handle the Bears' offensive line. probably makes me less of a true-fan, but so be it. i'll be hoping for the best, but expecting the worst; without the annoyance of 50,000 Colts fans screaming in my ear. here's hoping for some success. got to find a way to get to Manning and rattle him a bit with the bad knee. then maybe they can force some mistakes and take advantages with some turnovers.
  8. please just don't pitch to Burrell. kthanksbye edit: errr...what truffle said.
  9. there really should be more hatred for 4-3.
  10. That's hot. Sorry 'bout your luck, Bobby.
  11. http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/matsuhi01.shtml Maybe? I hope? i was going to say the same thing. it's certainly possible he just needs more time to adjust. Matsui really only had one good month in his first season (1.157 OPS in June) and ended the season at .788 (Fukudome currently at .753).
  12. roosevelt brown? seriously, hoffpauir's not the answer to anything. but there may be some complacency from fukudome. am i sensing complacency? yes, i think i am. hoffpauir isn't any kind of long-term answer, imo, but he should probably be with the club spelling Lee and Fukudome from time to time. might as well take advantage of him being on fire while it lasts.
  13. No one is saying Lou is blaming Fukudome for the entire lack of offense. But we lost by 1 and he clearly called out Fukudome's AB for not picking up the RBI with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs. It's not a stretch to say he's putting a hefty amount of blame for the loss on Fukudome. I think that it is quite a stretch unless there's more context than the snippet provided in the first post. You don't know what question he's responding to, or if he talked about other failures before or after that quote. fair enough, but it's not the first time Lou has singled out Kosuke so i don't think it's a huge stretch or anything.
  14. Soriano: 0 for 3, BB Theriot: 0 for 4 Lee: 0 for 3, BB Ramirez: 1 for 4, GIDP Edmonds: 0 for 3, BB Fukudome: 0 for 3 Soto: 0 for 1, 2BB, GIDP Damnit, Kosuke!! Lou's comment seems pretty stupid. Not all PA's are equal, but I have a hard time singling out Kosuke here. Having said that, Fukudome now has a lower OPS than Theriot and that is a little troubling. Just bat him in the eight spot and lets move on. I wouldn't replace him.
  15. tough call between Dempster, Edmonds and Hill. Hill is easily the biggest dissapointment. i voted Dempster simply because he's been here the entire season. i was very adamantly opposed to (and probably pretty vocal about it) moving Dempster to the rotation. i thought that had dissaster written all over it. even when he started off strong, i kept waiting for him to implode. at this point my only concern with him is tiring out as the season winds down.
  16. just wondering if we'll see more of it. seems like an obvious use of resources, particularly if he's (supposedly) a poor blocker.
  17. i'd certainly like to see them release Booker at this point. the way the team is currently constructed, he doesn't really serve much purpose. it's time to see what Bradley can do (if he stays healthy). so i haven't followed camp as closely as most of you probably have but is there much talk of using Olsen in the slot? with the lack of WR's it would make sense, assuming Clark's injury isn't serious.
  18. the point is (people are saying) that Lee isn't likely to maintain a .734 OPS. also, people are expecting way too much from Hoffpauir. i understand giving Lee more rest (inserting Hoffpauir) and moving him out of the 3-spot, but i do think it's silly to be considering replacing Lee with Hoffpauir on a (semi) regular basis.
  19. i really hate the marlins. please win.
  20. i pretty much agree that he'd be nice to have for the rest of '08, but i wouldn't be interested in having him (at that salary) in '09. i haven't gotten around to looking (yet), but how much fielding has he done in the last few years? edit: just did a quick check and it doesn't look like he's played OF in a few years but has put in some time at 1B and 3B.
  21. the cubs are on pace to win about 98 games. i have to say i didn't see that coming. i thought they had a solid chance at the division, but they've exceeded my expectations so far. primarily Dempster, Edmonds and Theriot.
