  1. Quick question for those who might know: Has Happ been really good with nobody on base this season and really crappy with runners on?
  2. Have to imagine if they trade him he won't be available this offseaosn because the new team will pick up his option.
  3. Educate me on this one. This is like the exact guy I don't want to be traded to the Cubs. He hits home runs and that's about it. He'd be another guy who strikes out with a man on third and one out. However, I will admit not knowing that much about him, so there could be a ton about his game I'm missing.
  4. What's interesting is that I agree 100 percent with this statement, but I read it in a different way than you intended.
  5. I wouldn't be even close to that -- I wouldn't want to make an offer because it would be insulting - but at least by all accounts he's a really good person and obviously a player when healthy, so at least it's the right kind of guy to sign. if he's unable to play what does being the right kind of guy to sign get you? You can't break the bank on Bryant maybe, load it up with incentives? I'd assume they are more confident in his health than I in that situation, so at least if they are confident and they do it, it's the right kind of player I can get behind. Although, yes, I think it will turn out poorly. I can't see KB and Boras taking a deal based on incentives. But depending on what happens next season, they might not have any choice but to take a prove it deal to try to cash in. I just don't think teams are going to be willing to go big years for him. I don't believe teams are as enamored with him as we'd hope, based on the fact that no team appeared to offer anything the Cubs would take with two years still left on his deal.
  6. I had those same thoughts but, he still young and its hard to think about the Cubs giving up on him. Yeah, I’d still give him a 6-8 year deal for 150-190 in a second and he should be the guy they extend out of any of outside of Rizzo (who really won’t cost much anyways). I wouldn't be even close to that -- I wouldn't want to make an offer because it would be insulting - but at least by all accounts he's a really good person and obviously a player when healthy, so at least it's the right kind of guy to sign.
  7. Love the dude. Hell of a player. Can't stay healthy anymore. Even when he plays, he seems to be fighting off a nagging injury that has people talking about how it's impacting his game. I don't believe he's ever going to really be healthy again. I envision his body continuing to break down. Therefore, as tough as it is, I wouldn't even be interested in making him a "good" offer.
  8. This response to my post is only being written for myself. Plenty of time to still be way wrong, but everything still holds true for us.
  9. Is it fair to say this guy has been an average or below average pitcher each season of his career except for one good year? If it's not, I'll easily take the statement back.
  10. Man, this world feels normal again, if only for just a few moments.
  11. Just have them play home run derby instead.
  12. Yeah, I'm pretty confident this was leaked to Passan by Scott Boras. He is a fan of this. Not only is it probably going to be too dangerous, not only will it be difficult to coordinate this all, but if Covid doesn't make some of the players sick, playing in 110-degrees every day for two or three months probably will.
  13. I welcome baseball being back because it will mean our country, hopefully, has turned the corner. But is it OK that I won't care about what happens this season because it will sort of be a sham one? I just won't really recognize the World Series winner the way I normally would. Please feel free to trash my thoughts. Either way, keep being safe.
  14. Really? I just assume it's people responding to the voices in Tom's head.
  15. My favorite thing (other than the obvious WS stuff) to watch from that run is the comeback in SF. I LOVE the comeback against SF. Javy, Zo, and Willy were so swaggy. Without that comeback, there might have not even been any highlights from a Dodgers or Indians series. One of the biggest moments in a playoff run filled with them.
  16. I see the Rockies’ motivation to move Arenado for Bryant. I don’t see the Cubs’ motivation. With Arenado’s player options, it’s the same two years guaranteed as Bryant at basically twice the salary for a marginally better player, with the risk that he underperforms and puts the Cubs on the hook for $30+MM a year for five more years of a declining player. Would the Rockies be taking Heyward, sending prospects to the Cubs, what? It could be where they get him to waive the opt out for the concession of getting the hell out of a place he doesn't want to be, and there also is at least a chance the Cubs wouldn't be on the hook for $30 plus depending on how much the Rockies kicked in. At least it's some motivation.
  17. Boooooo. I wanted Scooter, but I also don't know the inner workings of what is going on there, so there is that.
  18. I would very much like this to not happen.
  19. This actually got trending on Twitter last night, and actual reporters addressed it not being real. I've really started to worry about the serious gullibility of people in our society. Although, based on current world events, I guess i should not be. For every 20 MLBIntel’s there’s a WetButt, Katy Perry Booty Hole and NoCode. Sure, but it takes two seconds to look over an account and tell which is which or at least which one is for sure [expletive].
  20. Yeahno. This actually got trending on Twitter last night, and actual reporters addressed it not being real. I've really started to worry about the serious gullibility of people in our society. Although, based on current world events, I guess i should not be.
  21. Chris Myers (the dude sideline reporter last night, if you're unfamiliar with the name). They announced it at Cubs Convention. Thanks. I think Len does a much better job when he does Cubs broadcasts. For some reason, he seems much more passive when he does the national broadcasts. I would imagine that's because he has to appear neutral to both fan basis. When he's doing PBP for the team that pays him on the Cubs station and is broadcasting for one fan base, he can let the emotions fly a lot more.
  22. So with this, is KB still a Cub by the end of the week?
  23. I was reading along with this totally thinking it was going to say Eloy.
  24. I don't see why not, Lester gets a guaranteed 2021 and more money out of the deal. That would also help stem rotationpocalypse a bit since they didn't get a longer term option this offseason. Yeah I don’t love having to keep him around another year, but if it’s only $5 million more or so than we have to pay anyways plus gets us under the LT it’s probably worth it. It’s more overall guaranteed money so I’d assume it would count to recalculate the LT hit. Especially if they paid him more in real money this year or something so it would be an entirely new deal. Idk what triggers a recalculation if it’s an extension. I don't think Lester would be willing to only take an extra guaranteed $5 million, though.
  25. If he gets 3 for 30, the Cubs better figure out a way to be all over that.
