how can a GM that most would rate as decidedly average be overrated? well he's apparently the worst in baseball so clearly the people rating him as average are overrating him. I guess he really is the worst. God knows I've been pining for the GM's of the Nationals, Astros and Mariners to come in and replace Hendry.... Hendry has done a piss poor job in assembling the 3rd highest payroll in the game; hell the Cubs payroll this year is even higher than the Red Sox Any GM with that kind of payroll backing should be able to put a team on the field that is better than this mess we are stuck with this season
Ascanio threw a crappy first pitch fastball to a guy that's been in the majors for like 3 weeks and he knocked the [expletive] out of it to score the winning run from 2nd; why in that situation would you not start the kid out with something off speed? You would have to think he MIGHT be a little overanxious
On the subject of Bradley, can anyone tell me the last time he drove in a run? He's been stuck on 16 ever since i can remember, which is pathetic for a 3 hole hitter
At some point a team that is struggling mightily to score runs needs to think about maybe sacrificing a little defense to try to get some production at the plate; it doesn't matter how damn good the defense is if you are averaging less than 3 runs a game
I wish Jim would have two rules 1. Never, ever sign a guy the Royals cut 2. Never, ever, ever, ever sign a guy who has had a career year with the Cardinals the previous year. Those are 2 pretty damn good rules for any GM to follow
Well trading DeRosa to get Footnote more playing time sure looks like a genius move as this season progresses; on a positive note at least we got a run there
My personal opinion is he is relying on the slider way too much, and hitters are not chasing that pitch out of the zone like they used to; time to come up with a new game plan
I could care less which pitcher gets the W; bullpen outside of Marmol has been stellar today I don't really care either, but it has to suck for Wells. oh i agree on that; kid can't catch a break, but somewhere down the line u have to figure he will get some offensive support won't he?
