    From Brett: Harper is 21 and already has 8.9 WAR in the big leagues, Bogaerts has a .680 OPS in his first 100 games as a 20/21 year old SS, Wil Myers is the only fair name to mention to make that point. Rosenthal needs to do some research and come up with some better examples.

    Slim. They are already insanely young for their league and they are literally kids in a foreign country for the first time. Yeah, after all the investment the Cubs made in the AZ facilities I have to believe they're going to err towards keeping the young guys down there for the season before sending them on. I fully expect Torres in KC to begin next year, though. Hopefully Jimenez keeps putting up Bryant-like numbers and also starts in KC.

    I think he could become a decent at 3B, but with our system and the fact that our FO really pushes groundball pitching, I'd rather go with a Baez-Russell-Castro-Rizzo infield. We still have mashers at every position, but we also get plus defense. Then if we eventually have an OF of Soler-Almora-Bryant, that's some good defense.

    I'm perfectly happy with a rotation full of Arrietas and Hammels with a lineup that scores 20 runs per game.

    Those top ten are the best group in the minors. Add 2 names to the 8 that missed, and u probably have a middle of the pack system. Say you split them into two roughly equal groups: Bryant, Baez, Soler, Tseng, Almora, Vizcaino, Edwards, Rivero, Vogelbach, Bruno and Russell, Alcantara, Schwarber, Torres, McKinney, Johnson, Hendricks, Stinnett, Jimenez, Underwood How high would those 2 systems rank?

    I really hope they work out a long term deal with Bryant over the offseason so he can start the season with the team. Maybe Russell, too. Then if Alcantara comes up this year, that would give them 4 guys (those 3 plus Soler) who wouldn't have service time concerns.

    Yeah, Castro's just a stupid brown guy who could never understand value and team control and the fact that guys like Bryant, Baez, and Russell will make them contenders very soon. And I also really doubt that Arrieta has all too much ill will towards the organization that just transformed his career. Now I'm wondering if *you* don't understand that it's possible to be simultaneously mad that something happened and understand that it'll be better in the long run. That wasn't your original post at all. You implied that Castro was too dumb to actually understand these things.

    Yeah, Castro's just a stupid brown guy who could never understand value and team control and the fact that guys like Bryant, Baez, and Russell will make them contenders very soon. And I also really doubt that Arrieta has all too much ill will towards the organization that just transformed his career. Most major league players seem to know about good minor league players. I can see some guys being annoyed, but I'd guess the young guys are also excited about what they're going to be a part of soon.

    Looked really overmatched when I went a few days ago. I saw him last year and was not impressed with him at all. I know nothing about scouting, but I'll just assume I have a naturally talent for it since it seems like I was right in this case.

    i would give them Baez and Russell in one second if they asked for it. It clears the way for Bryant to be a 3rd baseman, moves Soler to left. 2b - Al Contra SS - Castro RF - Stanton 1b - Rizzo 3b - Bryant LF - Soler C - Schwarber CF - doesn't matter let's just say Almora My dear Lord that is just ravishing A Stanton-Rizzo-Bryant middle of the order for the next decade makes me poop in all of my pants.

    Russell could easily be ready by next year.

    I was torn at first, but I like it the more I think about it. Russell is better than any player that had been mentioned as a potential return for Samardzija. Sarmadzija for Russell straight up is a very good deal. When I first looked at McKinney's stats, I was underwhelmed, but he's extremely young for his league, has great patience and decent power, plus he was a 1st round pick. A 1st round pick who is performing well plus a decent reclamation project is a good return for someone like Hammel. I was hoping to trade Samardzija to the Orioles and get Bundy and Harvey, but we have 3-4 guys we could trade and get almost any pitcher we want.

    I love Bosio but we can't just count on him to fix everyone. We can count on him to fix enough. Plus we have tons of relievers. Give me a version of your realistic rotation next year.....     By the time these guys become FA's, the Cubs should be swimming in money. If they want to, they can get this group of guys together for a long time.
