  1. Just realized Daytona is probably going to off most of the week due to the tropical storm, sweet...
  2. Agreed. Teams have won the WS with a worse top 3 than Zimmerman, Gonzalez, Jackson and the ]Detwiler (if they need a 4th)
  3. That or when the Trib/Zell finally allowed him (or even forced him) to spend money there weren't great options on the market for the long term deals. It's been put out there that the trib was more behind signing Soriano than Hendry, or at least forced him to add some years/$$. In no way am I a Hendry apologist but I think part of the awful contracts was him being forced to spend money by ownership.
  4. I can't imagine how much money they are going to throw at Greinke in the offseason.
  5. Can they even afford him after picking up Cliff Lee? ?? I know they claimed him, but I thought the Phillies pretty much said they won't trade him, no?
  6. What if Theo and co. just didn't like any of the big FA this offseason? All of them had risks attached given where we stood and the money required to get them. Pujols: $200m+ over 10 years, it would be tough to build a WS team while he was still at an elite level, there were signs pointing to him declining and coming back towards the pack of 1B Fielder: Poor defender, long term questions about if he could stay in the field for a team that doesn't have DH. Wilson: Short term track record of success as a starter, saw major jumps in IP over the last two years compared to his career Darvish: Would have taken $100m plus to acquire him the FO might have had a bad taste in their mouth after Dice-K. He hasn't been all that great this year. Previously had a lot of innings on his arm already. Cespedes: By all accounts we wanted him and offered him the same AAV as the A's but he wanted a shorter term deal (4 with the A's v. 7 with us) so he could potentially cash in big one more time. If he didn't like any of them why did he put in a bid for Pujols, Fielder, Darvish, and Cespedes? PR move? He liked them on his terms, but didn't love them enough and wasn't willing to bend over to the demands of the player/agent or match other teams offers

  8. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thanks
  9. You're right, we should really get Fred's input on this
  10. Being so against cutters I assume he knows what one is, but he's saying a fastball that moves isn't a cutter, I want to know what he thinks a cutter is/does.
  11. ESPN did and update on their future rankings for MLB organizations. If someone has insider can you post what they have to say, or summize what they have to say about the Cubs. Figured this is a good thread for that type of conversation and didn't feel it needed and whole new thread. Thanks.
  12. The debate on Rivera having a cutter is some pretty philosophical stuff too in that article
  13. Haha, what? Glad Selig's office finally let us know that you do in fact get suspended from MLB if you test positive for meth. Those guys in MLB's office have brass [expletive] balls man, brass balls
  14. #-o , that man actually gets paid real american money to teach and enforce baseball principles like that. Damn, that's dumb.
  15. Because he was demanding a [expletive] load of money and the team that took him would have had to commit a large amount of their draft budget to him and they would have had to draft a lot of slot or under slot guys the rest of the draft. I realize he wasn't worth taking later I mean if he was worth the money someone would have taken him where he would have fit into their budget. He just doesnt seem like a tor type to me. He was still demanding near #1 pick money and I'm assuming most teams knew that they couldn't get him anywhere near their allocated slot money. But I do agree, despite being the #1 college pitcher last year and close to #1 in the upcoming year, I don't think he ends up as a legit #1 starter in MLB.
  16. We play the Astros 6 more times, just let Rusin, Raley, and Volstad start all 6 games and don't play Rizzo/Castro/Soriano/Dejesus in any of those games and we might have a chance. Rockies won again today (8/23) that makes 5 in a row for them so hopefully they keep on their winning ways this weekend to help make #2 more secure for us.

  18. Exactly. Even if he plays against the Colts, is he knee going to be ok to go 4 days later in a much more important and tougher game against Green Bay? I'm not saying the Colts are a gimme, I think they are (slightly) better than people think, but home against the Colts on a week's rest is a much easier challenge than in Green Bay with 4 days rest. Can he do both? Is it worth finding out if he's going to be pushing it just to start week 1? If they lose to the Colts in week 1 with or without Urlacher the Bears will be facing more pressing issues than getting Urlacher healthy/keeping him healthy.
  19. That's awesome (and seems like a logical thing for every team to have given it's pretty simple/easy/accesible technology that is needed to install to have the ability to watch all your teams these days) and seems like something every other team (or most teams) probably had installed in their minor league systems/stadiums years ago.
  20. He is only under team control through next year and would probably make $4ish million through arbitration. If he had an extra year or two of team control it might be worth it but he's probably looked at as too short term of an asset to acquire for a team that likely will be as good as we are this year, next year.
  21. Damn, playing once every 5 days will do that to a guy. Especially when a lot of the teams in the FSL aren't having games delayed/postponed everyday and are on a much better routine.
  22. Let's hope for the Rockies, Twins, and Astros to win tonight, I guess.....
  23. And Trumbo would have as good, if not better year than last year. Why don't they have a better record? Is their starting pitching not performing to career norms? Are they bad defensively? I would have to think, offensively, they rank in the top 1/3-1/4 in most major categories.
