  1. I know that, but he also was in the AL for a good chunk of his career and didn't have a pitcher in his lineups and he played on some really good offensive teams in NY and a huge hitters park in TEX. I just thought he would've done it more than twice.

  3. I really wanted Sappelt to be up early this year to get a better idea of what kind of player he can be. Glad he's up now and playing well. He could be a good 4/5th OF going into next year. Side not, with that HR Soriano has 95 RBI's and will likely get to 100 for his first time in his Cubs career and only 3rd time in his MLB career. I know RBI's are a virtually meaningless stat to judge a players value, but I found it interesting he's only done that twice before. At least it's a stat that should shut the local meatballs up about him not producing or whatever.
  4. Doubt it will matter. The plan doesn't look like it calls for us to really be in contention next year.
  5. This. We will probably add a Rule V guy too.
  6. Great news. for sure! who is GDubCub? not a twitter follower Gordon Wittenmyer In other news, GDubCub is one of the worst twitter handles ever
  7. Flex spot: Reggie Bush v. OAK Ahmad Bradshaw v. TB C.J. Spiller v. KC (have a waiver claim in on him, find out if I get him tomorrow. Let's assume I get him though) WR #2 spot: Malcom Floyd v. TENN Antonio Brown v. NYJ I'm leaning towards Bush and Floyd
  8. http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/09/11/jason-mcleod-discusses-the-offseason-plan-for-jorge-soler-lee-tinsley-talks-up-soler-and-albert-almora/ That's great to hear. He should use some of his judgement of balls off the bat to better judge where the walls are and how close he is to them and stop crashing/running into them.
  9. I can't believe those idiots gifted him a rotation spot and kept Travis Wood in Iowa. Idiots. That argument wasn't actually being made, was it? I know people were debating which two, to keep up between the4 of Volstad/Maholm/Wells/Wood but I don't remember anyone of those guys should get a spot over Samardzija
  10. See my above post. If it's the difference between, say, the 2nd overall pick and the 5th overall pick, then I start to get cranky. But it's likely not. So enjoy some [expletive] wins. I am enjoying the wins and the better performances by guys. But there's only a 4 game difference in the L column between us at #2 and the Twins at #5 right now, as Kyle pointed out there's a pretty big difference historically between the overall #2 picks and overall #5 picks. We have 5 games left against the shitty Astros, so I'd say there's a decent chance we slide down a few spots if we keep playing like this given the competition and going all the way to #5 isn't all that unlikely.
  11. I don't know that I'd go that far. The bar is actually pretty low for Whitson to turn himself back into a top 10 pick given how weak the draft is. What kind of stuff has Whitson struggled with since going to Florida? And what are the main areas of his game that if improvements were made they would make for him jumping to most? Velo, stamina/compile IP, avoid injury, secondary stuff? I didn't follow him at all this year, all I know he was a big time prep arm.
  12. If your draft budget wasn't tied to what draft pick you had, I really wouldn't care all that much if we won out and ended up with the #10 pick. But the difference between the #2 and #3-4 pick budget is a big enough gap to grab an extra overslot guy, I want the #2 pick.
  13. I like Dallas and Cin more than the Bills. Dallas had extra time to rest and gameplan so I probably like them the most of your options. I dropped the Bills in my league and picked up the Patriots and it's pending on Waivers. If someone else claims them I'll probably go Dallas and if they get claimed Cin is available in mine as well and I'd take them.
  14. Is that lineman downfield illegally when the ball is caught? Sure looks like it - that's the first thing I thought when I saw that picture. He's a good 2-3 yards in front of the line of scrimmage before Stafford lets the pass go. Play starts at about the 20 second mark. http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=320909008 I believe there's a cushion in there of about 2-3 yards. Yeah, IDK what the exact rule is for being an illegal man down field. I would think it has to be around 5 yds or more, with maybe a judgement call if a o-lineman is down field less than 5 but possibly impacting the route of the WR or DB/S/LB?
  15. I'd be really against a HS pitcher at a top 3 pick for us, there is so much time in developing a HS arm and too much injury risk for the pick to be worth it at a top 5 spot when there are more sure things available or better types of players to gamble on/less potential for bust. IMO (unless it's a clear once in a generation guy). My top 5 would be Manaea Stanek Meadows Whitson Appel Are there any intriguing catching prospects that we could be targeting in the 2nd-4th rounds? That seems like it's def a position we could add depth to and could use a decent prospect there.
  16. That seems low to me. The Bears scored 41 by themselves last week and it's not like Green Bay has a great defense. Yeah, I think it goes over by a decent amount. Only needs to be 27-23 to go over, that doesn't seem like an unattainable score at all with these two teams offenses/defenses.

  18. Better question is, is how did this guy break camp with them? Is he the best they could do? Seems like something either you can or can't do and they should have figured it out in OTA's/pre-season games.
  19. We really need to start trying out that whole losing thing again. I don't want to be drafting higher than #2
  20. Your GF's league sounds like it blows. You can pick up guys Tuesday-Thursday until like 5 ET (for Thursday games), then Friday at noon-Sun at game time in my league with standard waiver rules
  21. Khakis and a polo to a wedding? Classing the place up there, Dustin... FFS
  22. I have Jackson too. Spiller is a FA, but I have the 8th spot on waivers. Hopefully I can scoup him up, but I doubt it. Mendenhall or Pierre Thomas are my next best bets and I'd probably claim Mendenhall before Pierre. Reggie Bush and Ahmad Bradshaw are my bench RB (McFadden, Murray, and Jackson were my starters this week) so if I can't get Spiller it's not that big of a deal as Brahsaw or Bush should produce close to whatever Spiller offers if I play the right matchups with those two.
  23. 10+++X10+++ Cutler would take heat in any market until he wins a super bowl in that market, and even in several of those markets he would continue to take heat after winning a super bowl. I basically said that in my first sentence, other than the SB part. And yeah I might have undersold the crapfest that has been the Bears QB situation by a good 20 years. It just makes the distinction clearer to me -- how much better Cutler is than what the Bears have had. To me, that horrible QB history just gives less of a reason to carry it over to Jay Cutler. You'd think that would be the case. But it must be some learned/conditioned thing over time that since they've been cursed with awful QB play that they must hate all QB's and pick them apart and every bad thing they do or trait they dislike is 100x more magnified than any sort of good trait/skill/talent/stats/etc.
