  1. Maddon was in attendance for Baez's games over the weekend http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/107425988/cubs-manager-joe-maddon-watches-javier-baez-play-in-puerto-rico
  2. Both of those ideas are [expletive] stupid. I'd love to see them expand the 25-man roster to 26 or 27.
  3. Opening night just took on a whole new meaning.
  4. It's sad Ernie and Ron never got to see a WS, both seemed to want the Cubs to succeed above all else along with being genuinely good guys who loved the fans.
  5. RIP, Mr. Cub
  6. Since December he's been on the Mets, Yankees, Rangers and now the Cubs.
  7. Jesus, there's a ridiculous amount of competition for the last 2-3 bullpen spots.
  8. The Brewers are close to trading for Papelbon, apparently
  9. Do Soler and Moncada have any sort of connection/friendship? i.e. did they play on the same team at any time in Cuba or are the ages to far apart?
  10. If I had to guess it's part due to Abreu/Sale being in awards discussions and a big part is names they added being more well known by the general/idiot fans, LaRoche/Samardzija/Robertson/Melky on a whole are probably more well known than Lester/Montero/Denorfia/Fowler on a whole and the idiot fan doesn't care or know about the prospects and finally part of it is the LOLCUBS meatballing.
  11. I'm gonna need Derwood's analysis if spreading out his payments is good or bad for us, first. But it's good to hear we can talk/negotiate terms of a contract with him for after July 2nd, I thought that wasn't allowed and we could only talk terms under this period in which we have restrictions.
  12. This is hilarious, may have to actually DVR First Take tomorrow, I hope they make this a huge thing for the meatballery
  13. No, not primarily. Having money now is simply more valuable than having the same amount of money in the future, even absent any inflation. If you have the money now, that means you have the ability to use it now. Being able to use money is better than being unable to use money. Hence, even without inflation, people would have to pay interest on borrowed money. But what about the $15m/year you can't use for the 7 years following the end of the contract? What's the negative impact of that? Jesus Christ, http://www.investopedia.com/terms/t/timevalueofmoney.asp
  14. God, that game is dumb. They should just scrap it and do a bunch of various skills competitions, that could at least be entertaining.
  15. Do they do a rankings of which OF positions in which parks rank easiest to hardest (or like a cumulative +/- on the year a certain position ranked in each park)? Similar to what they do with ranking pitchers/hitters parks? Or does such a thing not exist?
  16. It doesn't make much sense why he was tendered a contract. Wood that is Because he has trade value. I'd be shocked if we could get a return of more than an Olt level flameout/red flag prospect or an expensive veteran that's in decline or not good (an example being someone like Swisher or Chris Johnson)
  17. It doesn't make much sense why he was tendered a contract. Wood that is
  18. I don't see any way/reason all 3 of Wood/Dubront/Wada are on the 25-man so I would expect at least one of them to be cut or traded or whatever.
  19. If he's getting "Zobrist'd", and being a "super-util" starter/a guy getting regular time, basically a guy who is going to get a dabble at 2nd, a touch in CF, maybe LF, heck 3rd (still find that odd), and shortstop, then okay, moving him wouldn't make a ton of sense (although I still have my doubts about his bat ... and I've liked how he has produced since his breakout A+ campaign in Daytona). If that's the case, okay. If he's a more a traditional util guy, a spot starter that gives you flexibility during games, then I wouldn't love it as much. I entirely expect Alcantara to have at least 110 starts and ~500 PA's this year between 3B/SS/2B/OF/Pinch Hitting
  20. I think I saw Cameron tweet that the PV of the deal is about $180-185 million
  21. Can Turner be sent down?
  22. I kinda think he gets the 5th starter job too
